Luke Williams : Coleman was like a madman : I’ve got more experience than all of them

Today Swansea City head coach, Luke Williams has talked about his ‘wounded’ Chairman, Andrew Coleman who has been let down by his staff internally. It’s no surprise we have been saying this for many months. But now it seems employees tasked with simple jobs leading up to and during this transfer window have failed to complete their remit.

According to Luke.

This has now resulted in investigating the free market for players, which seems to be yet again a strategy. We’ve seen this tactic used over the past year, it isn’t a great place to go shopping. Especially when we are told that this window was well prepared for and exciting for Swans fans. Actually only one signing on loan was made in January, a loan from Burnley, Hannes Delcroix. At the last minute Lewis O’Brien agreed to join on loan from Nottingham Forest when the Swans upped fee’s and payment direct to the player and Nottingham Forest.

We shouldn’t forget Melker Widell of course.

Luke this afternoon talked about his reasoning as to why things are going wrong at Swansea City. "As far as I’m concerned there could have been better preparation. Maybe some lack of experience in departments to make sure that those things were done. We were duped so many times and that’s something I think needs to improve”

So, we can take from that the Swans have a lack of experience in the club, and this impacted on transfers, and all this after being told a lot of things were in place. Luke went on, "I certainly think we need a restructure, we have some really great news, I can’t share everything at the moment but a member of staff coming to be football director and that’s really going to help us a huge amount. But yes I think the structure was not right and some people didn’t have a lot of experience in signing players and getting deals done. That’s something we need to learn from, and I think already we have an appointment that’s going to be made that will help out considerably.

⚽️ New director of ‘whatever’ is on the horizon

Williams referenced the complete hash the Swans made of the signing of Jacob Wright from Manchester City citing again a lack of experience and competency. "Yes that’s the sort of thing (lack of experience) Like I said it’s something we could have had lined up long before, and maybe been able to get that done before others came in to try and ruin the party. We just needed to get that done as a matter of urgency in the right way, What I feel is there’s a lot of things we need to do better, I think the disappointment will manifest in inaction, can’t do that again, can’t do that again. That’s an example of a few different things in my opinion. When I look around the building, other than Marj ( Martyn Margetson) I’ve got more experience in first team EFL football than everybody else put together. A lot of people are now suffering at the club”

On Andrew Coleman the Swans head coach stated after the window closed, "I think he was a bit shocked, that things weren’t prepared and organised to the level he expected them to be. He then went into overdrive like a madman to try and get things done. I was grateful to see it but that’s not the way it should be done. It shouldn’t be panic stations for forty eight hours, just madness trying to get things done that should have been prepared for months in advance (So already Luke has gone back on previous statements made about excellent preparation) and what he said to me he feels a sense of responsibility, that’s what a leader does, he is trying to take responsibility but really people (at the club) have been given a fantastic, like a big opportunity since he has been here, a lot of people have had a big opportunity, and I don’t think they have taken that opportunity. And of course that falls on the Chairman”

"I think he is quite wounded, I think a lot of trust was placed in people and not fulfilled that obligation. Since he has been here he has trusted people (at the club) to do a job to a certain level, in some cases I think it’s not been done to the right thing”

The conclusion has to be that Andrew Coleman has failed in not only in his delegation of work but also failed to check on or even micro manage people that affect the clubs future. With his finger in so many pies he has trusted his employees to the extent they have let him and the club down. We expect those people to leave the club in the very near future, and maybe recruit into those roles people ‘with’ experience on a better salary, not huge amounts who actually can do a job. There seems to be a lack of creativity and initiative indeed. Is that because they are afraid of making mistakes ? Or they are so caught in a position where their ability to be the person they want to be is an impossible task ?

Get them down the road asap.

Talking of which it is now very clear if Richard Montague is about to be announced as an appointment at Swansea then Luke Williams is in the middle - and therefore in a very safe space. That may well be an assumption, but it’s one as we have said is more likely to happen than not.

There’s a build up to the Bristol City game tomorrow morning (kick off midday, Sunday) as there are points that are needed and it has to start right now.
