Myles Peart-Harris has become a name to conjure with over the last twenty four hours after reliable sources are reporting that Swansea City have engaged with his club Brentford regards a loan move for the coming season.
We’ve had a look at the player who started his career moving successfully through the Chelsea academy. He then made a million pound plus move away from Cobham to Brentford’s Robert Roman Performance Centre. Myles is described as quick, positive with a tenacity to break forwards into the opposition’s area with the ability to be in the right place at the right time. He scores goals but found it difficult at times in League One after signing for Portsmouth on loan in January.
Our research also takes us to who he was being coached by at Pompey. That role fell to thirty eight year old John Mousinho, a head coach who has taken just eighteen months to guide Portsmouth back to the Championship. Another in the ‘long line’ of young coaches who hold ‘Pro Licenses’ a much sought after qualification which he earned whilst at Oxford United as a player in 2022. With young coaches, (as Swansea City can verify) being appointed throughout the football pyramid it was a gamble but it really has paid off. Backed up by Jon Harley the ex Fulham and Chelsea player, Mousinho is getting noticed. Talking this week on Myles, Mousinho said, ‘With Myles, I think it will be really interesting to see what he does. My expectation is he will be competing, I think, for a place in Brentford’s squad” Unfortunately Myles has at least four players in front of him which doesn’t bode well for the coming season if he stays in west London. The main talk we have seen is his participation in the Brentford B side is the first thing he needs to concentrate on.
More noticeable this week is that Portsmouth are not going back in for a further loan of Peart-Harris, and coupled with that information and his deterioration at times this year in performance - they are both warning signs that cannot be ignored. If he managed a move to Swansea, a club held in very high regard in assisting players to quickly improve and develop (see the current England squad) he surely would be favoured by Brentford to go to west Wales than anywhere else. That is despite Sheffield Wednesday currently heading up the interest in Myles. There are thoughts that Oxford United would be a good place for Myles to develop. Looking at the U’s chances of remaining in the Championship, does the player need a lower table battle for survival ?
It would be character building but the players confidence as was seen at Portsmouth could easily tumble. We move on to this websites view on our recent past which we hope some learning of a similar nature has been taken on board by the clubs hierarchy.

The Swans have far more to offer than the two other clubs in for this player, and a far more highly regarded development system. The only real consideration by Myles parent club would be the games he would get under head coach, Luke Williams ? He would most certainly get some extreme lessons in personal development, a concept both Williams and ex Swans boss, Russell Martin practice to good effect overall. A personal responsibility by the player to take on their own deficiencies and demonstrate through a variety of scenarios how they can improve. Graham Potter & Steve Cooper are also exponents of this type of reflective learning. When taken on board by the ‘whole team’ collectively it can reap huge returns in attitude and the behaviour of the player, and in-turn for the club.
Some players of course don’t have that ability. Their response is to disrupt and rebel against the coaching staff, generally due to a poor educational standard or they possess so much self interest they can’t see the bigger picture. In coaching circles it is seen as a gamble, but you only have to see the success of these ex Swansea managers since leaving west Wales, and to some effect whilst in the Swansea hot seat.

Sadly Swansea City looked towards their finances before encouraging a number of managers to leave who clearly could have taken the club back to the Premier League. That dream was smashed by poor decision making on managerial moves by the Swans losing the hope these managers had built. That’s what makes this summer as important a transfer window than we have seen for a long, long time. And for us that’s why a player like Myles has to be so right it just cannot be wrong at any level. We can only go on what has recently gone before, and despite the encouraging signs that Myles demonstrates, does he want to end up another Charlie Patino ?
