Swansea City : Nathan Wood knows he is available for transfer

Swansea City centre back Nathan Wood is aware that the Swans will listen to offers for his transfer away from the club this summer. His contract was extended recently with the Swans triggering a one year option on the player.

We do know that Nathan has found this extension with no extra remuneration difficult to take, however, it may now work in his favour and for the Swans this summer. His value with one year to go is steady but that will reduce if no club is found this summer break. The Swans will have one more attempt in January but that comes with far less value on his head with his contract terminating five months later.

Nathan signed for an undisclosed fee two years ago when Russell Martin was head coach, a move which again has proven very positive financially for Swansea City. Wood was a prime target for Martin. Since then Nathan has been included and played for the England U21. That addition to his CV has most certainly sparked interest in him. Last summer when Russell Martin left for Southampton he was eager to bring Nathan with him. Whatever offers the Saints made were not in line with what the Swans valued the player at. Talk of ten million pounds as a value by the Swans was a poke in the dark from the mainstream media. It was nothing of the sort.

We believe as it stands today Nathan is worth around 5-6 million, and that’s at the top end of the scale. Clubs interested in him will find a young man very much suited to a side that values a strong defence. It has to be said despite his athleticism and pace he rarely has the desire to run at teams with the ball. Swans fans have been frustrated with his form this season, despite being injured for a long period, Nathan seems loathe to give 100% at times. We think that’s down to preserving his fitness as his future is pretty much mapped out away from the Swansea.com.

For sure Nathan has improved immensely at Swansea City. He was almost out in the wilderness at Middlesbrough before the Swans came in for him. A loan spell at Hibernian did nothing to gain him any confidence, that’s when the Swans stepped in. He most certainly fits the ‘player trading model’ that the club have moved away from in recent months. However, money is money, especially with the Swans recent losses declared recently. They need to show an upward trajectory in finances this time around. And we shouldn’t forget there’s numerous players and additional money inwards that hasn’t been included to the tune of approximately £17,000,000 in recent disclosures. That will help tremendously.

We expect the Swans to play hard ball but this is one player they really do need to leave for the best offer. Time will tell, expect a few low ballers initially which will test the Swans resolve but also ensure interested parties know where they stand. The player is ready for transfer, that’s now confirmed.
