With the Swans retained list about to be named, generally around the 18th of the month, we take a look at those who stay, and their value to the club. The players who have the determination to turn next season in to more than a passing parade and a dismal home loss record.
Let’s have a look at the players we think are important to the squad next season. We have a value on their heads, not because we think that’s what they are worth, but everyone has a price, and in silly money terms this is what we think.
⚽️ Ronald : (23) Came in to the side in January and immediately had an impact on the squad. He is quick and has shown that he can finish as well. His most effective away performance came at Sunderland in late February where his pace and goal scoring touch earned the points for the Swans. He always makes himself available although defensive mishaps like Saturday need to be managed. If the Swans are serious about developing a young player then any offer for him below absolutely stupid should be rejected. And by that we mean close to double figures in millions up front. The club needs to show ambition with players like Ronald. Must sell value : £10,000,000. Contract expires summer, 2027.
⚽️ Josh Key :(24) Now he is back from injury there are signs that Josh is a very competent right back. He lives to push forwards but needs to work on his strength on the ball. Before his injury he was flying, however that strength building, keenness to improve and add value to the attack are extremely important. Possibly hasn’t shown enough for other clubs to be interested just yet, but they will be. Must sell value £7,000,000. Contract expires, summer 2026.
⚽️ Harry Darling : (24) A huge part of what Luke Williams is trying to achieve, a menace at set pieces and has the confidence to burst forward with the ball, has a decent shot on him and defends cleverly in a well drilled defence. Another who has to stay to develop the vision for next season. Must sell value : £6,000,000, contract expires, summer 2025.
⚽️ Ben Cabango : (23) Another vastly improved and strong centre back. This season has shown remarkable vision in defence and takes on the responsibility of organisation and set play defending. Has been at the club for years. Knocking on towards 170 appearances he is another who needs to stay. Must sell value : £6,000,000. Contract expires, summer 2025.
⚽️ Josh Tymon : (24) Has improved dramatically, has strength and character, made a big impact around the turn of the year and has continued to impress. Despite the £2.200,000 transfer tag from Stoke he has been possibly the best signing the club has made since last summer. £5,000,000. Contract runs out summer 2026.
There have been some other decent performers last season, but they are not Swansea players or won’t be returning. The players above we believe are the main stay of a squad that could challenge better next season. These are signed Swansea players, not loans or injury prone even out of contract, these are players who don’t have to move anywhere and are signed to the club. There are other academy players and first team squad players that really do need to be valued and retained. We mentioned them in our report on Sunday.
⚽️ That’s here —> Swansea City confusion
The following players have been key to the academy but are now ready to step up. In our opinion they should be retained and the same as above - if moved on should reflect silly money fee’s. There are some really decent players on the next list, all of whom will have good careers in football, a few it’s clear will be top players.
⚽️ Azeem Abdulai, defender: (21) Scottish international, contracted to summer 2025. Surely will push on as a bigger contributor this season ? £2,000,000
⚽️ Sam Parker, forward, : (17) Has shown a determination to leave the club by turning down a new contract even though he is injured. That backfired when the Swans said ‘No problem’ and cut off discussions. Still very young, clearly getting his head turned from elsewhere. Has the feel he wants away, if that the case the development fee shoukd be in the region of £1,500,000. However he is under 18 and comes with other side issues due to age.
⚽️ Filip Lissah, defender, : (19) edging in to the first team squad. Very well thought of and another who should be complimenting the first team squad next season as back up. Development fee £1,000,000
⚽️ Aimar Govea, forward, : (17) Recently signed a long term deal with the club (under 18) has played a few times for the first team, looked decent. Quick but slight in build he will need to work on that over the summer. Will almost certainly feature in the first team squad next season. Development fee £1,000,000.
⚽️ Kyrell Wilson, forward, : (18) Contracted to the club until the summer of 2025. Will be seen as ready to move up next season. Development fee £500,000.
⚽️ Maliq Cadogan, forward, : (20) same for Maliq as Wilson, also contracted until the summer of 2025. Development fee £500,000.
Then we have players such as Joel Cotterill (19) contracted to summer 2026, and Cameron Congreve (20) He could be at the club until 2026. There are big question marks over these players who seem to have been around for years ! They haven’t of course Cameron has a contract that could extend to 2026 if the club take up a one year option. They haven’t been recognised by Luke Williams with Wilson, Cadogan and Govea earning more exposure. Time to be reviewed ?
