Dyer Targets Premier League Start
The good thing about the squad the way it is at the moment is that we can use cup games like last night as the perfect chance to see who else in the squad can hit some form and hope that they can take advantage of a start no matter how rare that start may be.
Nathan Dyer is one of those who could benefit after his start and goal last night sent the Swans on the way to a 3-0 win over York in the Capital One Cup and a third round trip to Hull.
It was a first start of the season for Dyer who was linked with a move away from the Liberty in the summer but remains here and is ready to fight for his place.
He has sat out the opening three league games thanks to the form of new signing Andre Ayew but we know what a good Nathan Dyer can do and if that means he is hungry to take his chance when it comes his way then that can only be a good thing for us.
And Dyer hopes that his performance will give Garry Monk something to think of as he wants to earn a place in the starting eleven in the Premier League.
"I've been working really hard throughout pre-season to get back into the first team,” said Dyer. "I have been working closely with (coach) James Beattie, so it was great to get in the scoresheet.
"I just want to prove I can get back to my best and push for a start.
"Considering the changes I thought we linked up and moved the ball well, Matt and Leon (Britton) did a great job for us and we got our rewards.
"It was a real team effort. Everyone is trying to impress as much as they can, but we all worked together to get the best out of each other.
"The team we fielded could definitely line-up in the Premier League. It was a strong team and I am proud of the boys.”
