Will Manchester United Deal See Valencia Move In?

Papers tonight are reporting that Manchester United have sealed a £25m transfer for Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi which, it was reported a week back, would lead the Spanish side to target Federico Fernandez as an immediate replacement.

Despite the £36m release clause in Otamendi's contract it is being stated that the deal to take him to Old Trafford - where they need defensive strength - will be done for around £25m.

Italian journalist Nicolo Schira is stating that a four year deal has been agreed with Valencia and that the Argentinian defender will join up with Louis Van Gaal's squad when they report back for pre-season training next month

Last week it was speculated that should this deal go through then Valencia would be looking at Fernandez as an immediate replacement for the defender. Fernandez had an impressive first season in Swansea last year having arrived from Napoli.

The Swans do not need to sell the defender but Valencia are targeting a push at the top end of the Spanish league next season and European football can prove to be a big draw for a player who wants to regain his international place.

Of course what we do not know at the moment is whether there is any definite interest in our player and we can hope that it proves not to be the case. I also suspect that if there is interest it will not only be in Fernandez as they will have other targets lined up.
