Chippenham Town midfielder, Joe Andrews won’t be known to too many followers of the game, but the athletic midfielder is definitely on a list of possibilities to recruit this January. Joe will be 19 next month, and his performances this season are catching the eye.
Joe started at the Southampton academy and played in several U21/23 games for the Saints before deciding to opt for a move to Chippenham last summer. Combining his football journey with a BTEC Sports diploma the ex Catholic school student at St Augustines College, Trowbridge, he still has hopes of a full professional football career. He is surrounded by a healthy lifestyle in the form of dad, Matt who is a PE teacher at the college.
Since the Swans have been aware of this young man a whole host of clubs have jumped on the bandwagon. He has been watched by numerous scouts and coaches this season. He’s not a prolific goalscorer but his hard hitting performances in the National League South haven’t gone unnoticed. The issue for the Swans now is do they progress a move for Andrews or does he continue to be in the ‘things to do tray’ in Chairman, Andrew Coleman’s office. With the club lacking staff within the club to take on extra duties which was the brief for long departed, Paul Watson, Coleman could do with a hand.
Although Andrews would be more of an U21 asset, there is clearly a player in there after he joined the Bluebirds (Yuk) last summer on a free transfer. Another incentive for the Swans and Joe is he has featured for the age grade Wales sides over previous seasons. With little movement on the horizon as per our report yesterday lunchtime and time cracking on Swans fans continue to be desperate for some positive news. Any rumours on Jeffrey Schlupp at Crystal Palace are to be ignored, he is approaching the last six months of his contract. His agents are just getting busy. His salary demands yet again will frighten the Swans to death !
