Do we know how many new signings have scored a hat trick for Dale in their first match ?

Scott Hogan did when we re-signed him from Hyde. He scored three in a pre-season friendly against Northwich (I think)

Reg Owens scored a hat-trick in Dale's first Football League match against Accrington in 1921, becoming the only player to do so on his league debut for the club.

Out of interest, how many players have scored a brace on their debut?

I think Hogan and Le Fondre did didn’t they?

Hogan didn't. The scorers in that Hartlepool game were him, Donnelly and Henderson.

Good question, though, but I probably won't have access to my records until tomorrow, so I'll get onto it then.

Maybe. I can double check that, but from other things I've read and written, I'm sure Bob Mountford is one, although it's before my time - but not yours, of course.

Remember Bob getting at hat trick against Tranmere at home when they were running away with the fourth div one being a diving header in the Pearl St end.
Ended up 4 1 Ronnie Moore was the big time Charlie then he’d scored a shed load for them that season.
He’s my all time favourite player hence the picture 😃

Bob Mountford was a favourite of mine and I can recall him scoring plenty of goals in a relatively poor team. He was a fantastic header of the ball. we signed him from Port Vale if my memory is correct; whilst Leo Skeete came from Mossley !!

In a complete side step to the post, I can recall one player scoring a hat trick in his last game for us. Fairly sure he never played a full game again. Jamie Taylor. Bet there's not many others who did that.

Bob would be constantly red carded in today game. He had a tendency to leave one on anyone.
Remembering he being sent of at Swansea think we lost 3 0 that day had a few arguments on the mini bus home as I stuck up for him. He then was accused of stamped on Granville Mullington’s head who was Chester’s keeper at the time and also got sent off to that the Chester fans spitting at him who were in the paddock that day in front of the main stand.
My friend from school Andy Slack who I think made his debut that day in goal for us a Huddersfield it was Bobs first game for them I think ? Anyway he elbowed Andy from a corner and knocked him unconscious just on half time. Andy told me he got him back second half as he came out to punch a corner and made sure he caught him at the same time, Bob turned round to him and said fair play well done son 🤣

It wasn't Taylor's last game. He appeared a few more times in that 1995/96 season, albeit briefly, and the season after under Barrow.

I seem to remember Leo Skeete scoring a couple on debut.
Was a night match towards the end of the 1972/73 season? Grimsby Town?

Skeete got 1 that day and scored singles in the next two games, the last three games of the season..

Finished 13th in Div 3, Dick Connor got sacked, they brought in a youth team coach from Oldham and that was that, we went down to what became known as the Rochdale division.

I knew he certainly scored on debut, thanks for clarifying that.
He had a blinder that night and we thought we had a real prospect on our hands.
Like you say, a victim of the departure of Connor and the arrival of Joyce.

Jan 4 1975 big Bob M got the only goals in 2-0 win over Darlo on debut He had a habit of scoring braces. He did it on another 8 occasions including the Tranmere game. Whelan and Tobin got the other goals. He never managed to get a hat trick.
