On Friday the 5th November Jane and I attended an event at Blackpool Football Club which was organised by Chris Hull to celebrate Tony Green's 75th Birthday. It was a fantastic night and I was there to record it for you all to see as there was only 350 tickets available and it was a sell out - such is the popularity of this former Blackpool FC Legend.
With a great selection of Former Blackpool players invited, a guest appearance from Liverpool Legend Ian Callaghan MBE and a zoom call from none other than former England and Newcastle Striker Malcolm McDonald all paying their tributes to a man that only played for 3 clubs and is in 'The Hall of Fame' at all 3 of them.
It was so cruel that his career was cut short with an horrific injury after only 39 appearances for Newcastle as many believe he would have gone on to be remembered as one of the all time greats, he is talked about in the same breath as George Best and today many question whether he could have been as good as Lionel Messi?
He only played 39 games for Newcastle after they signed him from Blackpool and he was awarded Man of the Match in nearly all of them such was his impact on Tyneside that he was inducted into their Hall of Fame on the 9th of July 2008.
I've enjoyed putting this video together for you all to see and I think it has been well worth it, I'm very pleased with how it has come out and I'm sure you are going to enjoy it🙂 it Premieres at 7pm so that you can join myself, Jane and Chris Hull in the LIVE Chat from 7pm
I hope you are still buzzing if you watched that at home or travelled to Reading. I know a lot of you will have been waiting for this but, we didn't gat back until 3-30am on the coach I worked on it til 5am but was nowhere near so I've been back working on it since I got up. It's just finished uploading and processing for the last 40 minutes and now it's ready.
I actually have now words to describe the emotions of last night it has to be the greatest last 20 minute comeback away from home ever? I don't remember ever watching one in person Jane seems to remember Wrexham as the other one but that wasn't in the Championship in our 1st season back!!
Let me know what you thought for me Sonny Carey was MoTM what a player we have here on our hands he is going to go on to be an absolute star. Owen Dale looked very very good, Yates is on fire with 4 from 3 I deffo need to go out on the piss with him! 😅
For those of you that watch 'Footy Adventures' on Youtube (Seb watches it religiously) which is a fantastic football channel then look out for an interview with Sam at halftime and spoiler alert (he does come to the rescue a little later on)
I know it's a bit later than usual but I hope it brings you joy as you watch it all unfold
If you aren't subscribed to my channel or don't have notifications turned on then here is my video of Saturdays game.
For once I captured Jerry's Goal perfectly and the scenes from our travelling fans are amazing (my favourite video moment that I have filmed so far) it's such a shame we didn't go on to win as I thought at that moment we would.
I know most won't want to watch it because we didn't win which would be a shame as our travelling support is really something to see makes me very proud apart from these stupid smoke bombs (wish we could get rid of these don't see the point to be honest)
For those of you that enjoy watching these videos, the Hull one is now up on YouTube. It's well worth a stay over next time we play them if you fancy making a weekend trip of it. I had no idea that Hull was anything like it is and I think you will be surprised too if you have never been. We had a great time, 'The Deep' in Hull is incredible an absolute must visit, best breakfast ever? that has to be Nibbles
Don't know what you all think but it felt like a loss last night. I thought Hull deserved the draw the kept the ball so much better than we did.
If we could have played like we did after they equalised for the 35 minutes before then I think we would have won it.
A point away from home is better than nothing fingers crossed we play much better against T'Rovers on Saturday because that's not going to be easy and I can't stand them
What a day yesterday, what a comeback. You can see clearly as I was sat bang in line that the Middlesbrough goal was so offside it was untrue. It totally ruined the 1st half for me I just couldn't believe that that could stand it was truly ridiculous.
However, it didn't matter MG Whittard came to the rescue with a birthday gift for Jane of a lucky Orange Aero and it worked wonders as Blackpool mounted an amazing fightback in the 2nd half I just love the team spirit we are developing (Tuesday forgotten all about we lick our wounds and go again)
I captured everything, the goals and the incredible tangerine support I am sure if you are a Blackpool fan that you are going to love this one
Okay something a little bit different (and O/T) here is some local non league football for you. On Saturday Squires Gate FC were at home in the FA Cup 1st Round Qualifier and with no football we went down to see if they could make history and get through this round for only the 2nd time in their history. Jane likes the club and the people down there and we try and do our best to try and promote them because it's a great little club and they are always glad of any help we can give.
The FA Cup is a massive competition for non league and a run in this can bring so much needed revenue to a club the size of Squires Gate FC. What a shame the FA went against the wishes of the Premier League to allow more money to filter down to non league and grassroots football. What they did was reduce the amount of money given to these clubs which makes no sense to me?
Anyhow I hope you enjoy this video as Squires Gate have drawn a home tie in the next round and this may just encourage one or two of you to go down and give them some support in the next round. I can assure you if you have not taken in a game a Squires Gate you will be given such a warm welcome you may just find yourself going down there more often
So the BLACKPOOL FC FAMILY TRAINING DAY what was it LIKE?
Blackpool Football Club opened the doors to its stadium yesterday and welcomed in families to come along and watch the players training. The club did a couple of these before COVID hit and it was wonderful to see another one of these events being put on.
Children are the future of any club and to see so many of them dressed in tangerine and adoring the players was great to see. This is a great example of fan engagement so hats off to the club for making this day possible.
It was also the launch of new 3rd kit (which I really like) so I imagine it was perfect chance for them to get plenty sold so I guess it's a win win.
For those of you that for whatever reason couldn't make it down on Bank Holiday Monday this video is especially for you so that you can see what it was like.
Shame the PA system is so bad as it was hard to hear what Jerry Yates said I've done my best to subtitle Neil Critchley who was a little easier to hear but it's one of my pet gripes and I hope that they will someday do something about it.
They are a wonderful incentive by the club and as you will see if you watch the video they are extremely popular.
Geez that was hard to take, one of the worst reffing displays I think I have ever seen? (must rank in my top 10 of all time for sure) did you go? We went on the BSA coach so this video is a little different, must say a big thank you to them. Thought the free kick for the 1st goal was harsh, thought they took it about 5-6 feet closer than the actual incident as they appear to be beyond the 24 yard line but it is taken inside it. They looked offside to me for the winner but the referee was absolutely effin' diabolical.
Would have been such a good video if we could have hung on because as you'll see in it we put an incredible defensive shift in and deserved at least a point (if not more) in my opinion
Jane and I travelled down to Bristol on Friday and had a wonderful time. I'm sorry that these take quite a lot longer to put together so for those that enjoy these videos thanks for patiently waiting, really hope you enjoy seeing how wonderful Bristol was. Well worth a visit the next time we play them.
Jane and I are hoping to get nominated for The FOOTBALL CONTENT AWARDS again this year. We didn't win last time but we are trying again and this time we are going for The Best Club Content Creator category it's huge just to get nominated and it's a far tougher category this time so we need your VOTE.
Especially for those of you that enjoy watching our videos Jane and I went to the Morecambe game and this is our video of the day. We are trying to incorporate visiting attractions and making a day of it as well as just going to the game and we hope that you will find it a little bit of a more interesting watch.
We drove down early and went to visit the Lancaster Maritime Museum and Williamson Park (which was exceptional) then back into Lancaster for lunch at Merchants 1688 a pub right by Lancaster Castle before getting to the ground.
It was a much better 2nd half and I thought Bowler and Lavery injected a bit more drive and desire into our play and I look forward to seeing more of these 2 players.
So hope you guys enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed putting it all together
If you couldn't make the game last night here is our match day vlog:).
I thought Blackpool played very well up until we changed the entire team. We defended well and created a number of chances that on another day may have brought us a goal. The new pitch side electronic scoreboards have kind of brought us into the 21st century a bit and the new astroturf in front of the dugouts and along the East side looked a massive improvement and the pitch looked great too.
Thought it was a very encouraging performance, Maxwell looked great and new signing Richard Keogh looked quality. Check out the video to hear how loud the North Stand was despite only about 5 or 600 on there. We really are a loud bunch can't wait for the season to start.
Let me know if you enjoy the video and what your thoughts were on last night
The football is here and we are back with a new series of videos🙂
The last time we could go away we had Jane Stuart's Away Days this season we will both be going and we have decided that we would like to go and visit the towns and cities we are going to and find some interesting touristy things to do.
We are calling this series of videos 'The Football Tourists Guide' which we hope will be helpful for those of you that fancy making more of mini break when you travel away.
In this first one we visit the Birdoswald Roman Fort and the Solway Aviation Museum by Carlisle Airport before making our way to the match.
Hope you enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed making it for you
It's been a busy weekend with 2 Blackpool games and the England game - so after the disappointment of last night here is the first one of 2 hopefully it's a little something to bring a bit of a smile back. A young Blackpool XI took on Squires Gate FC (who I have already seen pre-season and I thought would be a tough test tbh) and breezed them away 0-7! there looks to be some great prospects to come through in the future a young lad called Prince? Ewan Bange did okay Rob Apter looked very good was just a great team performance. Shame England didn't attack with as much commitment last night.
We went down to film Squires Gate v Bury AFC on Saturday. If you are thinking of going to watch the Blackpool XI play them soon definitely go down you won't be sorry.
Always a friendly welcome and you get to meet some great characters like Albert Cooper what stories he can tell from his days as a Sun sports photographer his picture of Brian London before he met Muhammad Ali was incredible as you will see.
If any of you are coming down please come over and say hello to either me or Jane
In the meantime please take a look at our video below hopefully it might wet your appetite to go and see what it's all about and as always these local grass roots teams need the money to keep going 🙂ðŸ‘
There's interviews with Keigan Parker and the managers after the game too I'm sure you will enjoy it.
If you are free tomorrow night Jane and I will be having a chat with Dylan Kerr. One of Jane's first poster boys in her first season watching Blackpool after falling in love with the Beautiful game watching Italia '90. He played an important part in the play-off winning side who met against Scunthorpe at Wembley under Billy Ayre. We will be chatting with him about his time at Blackpool and his career since.
We are really looking forward to it and it would be great to have you come along and join us.
Caught up with Aaron from Forever Football DRFC this lunchtime to get his opinion on Reece James sounds like he is an excellent signing and love these 3 year deals feels like a proper club at last.
If you would like to see what Aaron thinks here is the link
