Car Insurance 12:02 - Feb 18 with 6094 views | QPR_John | Just had my renewal and it has gone up 65%. No claims in the last 5 years and am hardly a boy racer. Tried Direct Line, Aviva and Admiral. Thought my age would suit Saga but they were the most expensive. Looked on comparison sites but nowhere could I get a better quote. Methinks there is a cartel developing.
Car Insurance on 12:10 - Feb 18 with 5016 views | Hooping_Mad | Had my neighbour round yesterday, he said his had gone up to £700. Jumped on go compare and we managed to reduce that to £350. Here the thing though, he does 4,000 miles a year and has 20 odd years no claims. This is the result of a weak government who have completely lost control of the economy.

Car Insurance on 12:14 - Feb 18 with 4988 views | SteveB | Yup, mine doubled. Esure, they wouldn't even negotiate, "pay or go elsewhere". I went elsewhere, I did get it cheaper, still more than I paid the previous year though. Bastards. Since my experience, I have encountered loads of people that have had the same dis-pleasure.

Have heard it's broker prices that have started to fluctuate daily, hence my comment above.

Car Insurance on 12:28 - Feb 18 with 4897 views | OldPedro | I've had 2 car insurance renewals recently - one jumped from £425 to £880 (with Saga). Shopped around and got £450 with Tesco insurance. 2nd one jumped from £925 to £1660 (this one does have my 19 year old daughter on it) which was with Tesco. Shopped around and got it for £1220 with Admiral. On both policies we've got 8 and 9 years no claims discount and both myself and my wife are in our 50's. Insurance companies seem to be blaming inflation, labour costs and parts and materials - I would guess there is a bit extra in there too.

Car Insurance on 12:53 - Feb 18 with 4805 views | stevec | I got quoted double, £650 by AA, got it below £400 via confused.com but still way higher than previous. Was told by AA it’s down to parts and materials increases and a lot of it down to the write offs of electric cars burning out and their high cost of reimbursement. The Luton airport car park fire and total wipe out and prospective future repercussions has been factored in and don’t expect prices to come back down.
Car Insurance on 13:03 - Feb 18 with 4790 views | LazyFan | Down to parts and labour. But on renewals, many times it's even cheaper to go back online and do a new quote as a brand-new customer if you can, even with the same insurer. Why do they stick it to their loyal customers? Well, it's called "Cannibalising the Customer Base" The higher fee they know will compensate for the drop of around 20%. And some poor suckers will actually just pay the renewal. How do I know this? I used to work at one of the top insurers in Tech. Decades ago we saw the prices increase online for renewals, there was a big investigation as we were worried we may have made a technical error. But no, the Business people told us it was intentional and gave us the name of it. They have been doing this for decades. Always shop around regardless. Use the comparison websites and the ones who you need to go direct with. Eats up your time but the savings can be large.

Car Insurance on 13:05 - Feb 18 with 4787 views | ChrisNW6 | Mine nearly doubled from £1050 to £1900 after the missus had a brain fart last year and had a prang. We still have over 20yrs protected no claims. They offered a deal at £1000 if we had a black box added. It would mean no speeding, heavy braking and locking your phone away, as its all measured. Managed to shop around and get it down to £1300 without the tracker. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Car Insurance on 13:12 - Feb 18 with 4744 views | Hooping_Mad | Audi front wings and bumpers are like hens teeth, there's a youtube channel that buys insurance wright off's called SRUK they have an Audi on Catagory S (stuctural damage) for a wing & bumper, airbags didn't even deploy. Yes, Insurance companies have realised they are essentially unregulated when it come to writing cars off. Even Rolls Royce have managed to get insurance companies to write off almost any accident damage as Cat B which is crazy as it not supposed to be something anyone other than an assessor is supposed to determine. Whole sector is in need of a clean up.

Car Insurance on 13:24 - Feb 18 with 4697 views | Juzzie | I’m with Saga and it was be cheapest. I have a 15 year old Astra estate though, nothing fancy. Depends what car you have as well i guess.
Car Insurance on 13:27 - Feb 18 with 4688 views | CamberleyR | Martin Lewis says that the peak time to shop around to get a good deal is three weeks prior to the renewal date but the earlier you start looking, the better. It's always worth contacting your current insurer to see if they can get the quote down. Did this with my current insurers last month and managed to get nearly two hundred quid knocked off which near enough brought it down to the quotes from the comparison sites.

Car Insurance on 13:34 - Feb 18 with 4676 views | HAYESBOY | Yep, just had to renew as up on the 10th of Feb. Group 18 car, was 339 pounds last year fully comp and no claims protected. No claims is over 25 years. 3k miles per year. Garage. Renewal price quoted was 467 pounds. Shopped around on all the comparison sites and looked at a few suggestions made by friends and family and only one was cheaper but legal protection not included. Had to renew with current insurer. Reason given when asked was inflation and cost of car parts and labour. Its bollx and a total stitch up.

Car Insurance on 15:12 - Feb 18 with 4476 views | Bedford_R | Last September my insurance renewal quote from Tesco went up from £450 to £750. I went onto a couple of comparison sites and got the Tesco quote down to £514. So I told Tesco this and they honoured the reduced quote from the comparison site. It's all about profiteering. Nothing else. Same with all insurance. My landlord insurance was due to go up from £34 per month to £44 per month. Went online and got a quote from the exact same insurer and got it down to £24 per month. So cancelled my original policy and took out the new one with the exact same insurer. This was Direct Line. It's all about profiteering. Nothing else.

Car Insurance on 15:20 - Feb 18 with 4452 views | Bakes | All of the reasons listed are not the reason it’s gone up, the insurance companies have seen supermarkets, energy companies and every other business rise their prices and thought they quite fancy the same, it’s purely greedflation, they know we can’t go without it so hike it up and blame it on the war(s) / brexit / inflation / energy prices etc One day we will get a government who have the bollox to put an end to this nonsense, it’s an absolute piss take. The water companies are next.

This in a nutshell. Renewed mine in December and it had doubled. No claims, ok I had 3 points and I drive an Audi S5, but double!! I was told it’s the prices of parts and lead times, it’s easier for them to write off a car even with minor damage than repair. Was also told it’s the increase of cost of repairing electric cars. I explained that i don’t drive and electric car but that’s irrelevant. In short it’s the insurance companies jumping on the inflation bandwagon and there is absolutely f all you can do about it.

Saw this today, a quick google tells us that hit & run incidents have doubled since 2009, up to almost 8000 in 2021, seems to me that a lot of people are just not as considerate as they used to be in London? I wonder what is causing that? Sorry if that comes off a bit crude, not trying to bait anyone, I'm sure you're all right and Insurance premiums are only going up because the government isn't managing the books well enough. I'm sure it has nothing to do with rampant car theft, uninsured drivers, Uber rentals or anything like that.

I would certainly think twice about getting insured if I was a 17 year old and quoted £3-4k for an insurance policy. How are kids supposed to get started on their driving lives with those sorts of premiums?

I too went with Tesco Bank as they came out best on MoneySupermarket. I was with Admiral - 2 years ago it was 380 - next year it was 750 and they just sent me a renewal for 1100. When I called them, they said it was the cheapest they could do and gave me all the b*ll*cks about inflation etc. I told them to f-off. They are all doing the same - hoping to rip off all those that can't be bothered to check elsewhere. Tesco came in at 550 (half that of Admiral) but I am sure they will try the same as the others when it comes to renewing.

They’re not. It’s to ‘encourage’ them to get off the roads and use public transport which itself is not fit for purpose, IMO.

Car Insurance on 22:06 - Feb 20 with 3547 views | Ranger_Things | Out of control inflation caused big increases in repair, parts and rental costs and the insurance companies took a bit of a hit last year. Insurance companies are effectively bookies and rig the odds so they can never lose so this year’s customer premiums will recoup all losses and build in future profits including any leeway in case the government breaks the economy again. The house never loses.
Car Insurance on 22:22 - Feb 20 with 3511 views | GloryHunter | Electric cars is a big factor. One minor bump that damages the drive battery (which is basically anywhere around the bottom of the car) and the whole vehicle is a write-off. And we're all paying for it.
Car Insurance on 22:44 - Feb 20 with 3462 views | BostonR | The major reason is the massive number of uninsured drivers involved in accidents. The figure for uninsured drivers is well above 1.5M and their accident rate is enormous as is the type of accidents they are involved in. A pal of mine in underwriting basically explained that those of us who insure our cars are underwriting those that don’t! The Police do not have the resources or infrastructure to deal with what is a blatant problem.
