As our latest Nuisance Apidae has been ‘contributing’ on another thread, would you as a supporter, swap the last 10 years for Brentford’s last 10 years?

No.

We're on just as an important journey but ours doesn't involve divisional status but setting up the club in the values that make us QPR.

The soul of QPR was killed under the days as a 'boutique club' and a rich man's plaything and although I say that QPR did die spiritually , they could have done so for real because of the spending way beyond our means.

We needed to go through that journey to understand what QPR shouldn't be.

Personally QPR has always been a rollercoaster. We have certainly had some lows over the last 10 years, both on and off the pitch. But would I swap the feelings I had at Watford, dancing in the Uxbridge Road a week later, Mackie scoring at City or Bobby at Wembley, for the stability that Brentford have in 2020? Not a chance.
Plus, yes we have had some downs but I am very optimistic about us at the moment so I will take the highs of recent years and bank them with the others from 67.

3 years in the Prem
Championship Play off win at Wembley

Bit hard for Brentford even trying to compare as they’ve never known either.

I suspect Brentford fans will look at how much we nearly sacrificed for those 3 years struggling in the Premier League and would rather do things very differently to be fair.

That is the trade off though. Security or the highs? Maybe a couple of years back I might have been tempted.

We lost our souls.

We died spirituality

We almost died completely.

For 3 seasons struggling and for a fluke win at Wembley some sat back and watched the club almost completely disappear in front of their eyes just so they could brag to their friends or post 'Happy Zamora day' on Twitter.

Each to their own but I don't personally think it was a trade off worth taking and wish Brentford nothing but good luck for doing things in a completely different manner.

That’s a bit too simplistic. More like exciting but, as St Pollock says with consequences or stability both on and off the field with potentially a bright future.

I'm with you on that.

The years in the Premiership (and the promotion season in between) were pretty miserable for me; I disliked about half the players and all the managers after Warnock and most of the games were defeats. The only bit of that I'd envy if I was a Bee would be 2010-11, that was great and I genuinely don't think they've had anything as good, ever.

I started to enjoy things after Holloway's return and I doubt I'd swap the excitement of the emergence of Eze, BOS and Chair for being a Brentford fan now.

I wouldn,t swap Rangers last ten years with any other team, even Barca etc. Without doubt sometimes it is painful , mildly embarrassing, frustrating , I could carry on but won,t. But the highs and more often lows of supporting QPR are invaluable. It is hard to put into perspective with words and would take too long.

No way would I sacrifice the promotion season under Warnock, or even the Play Off final (despite the turgid football that season) when you consider how that day panned out and how many were there and the shared experienced of THAT moment which may never be topped, or even repeated for a long time anyway.

For me personally to experience that day with my Dad and my missus, no way would I exchange moments like that for the gradual stability and progression of Brentford.

Written like a true Brentford fan.
what you fail to understand is that passion often dances with pain.
Brentford have failed to achieve anything - even at this stage you are speaking about them as if they have set some bench mark industry standard. It's a promising project - but until there is sustained success on and off the pitch at the highest level, you're going to need better bait.

I couldn't swap The Rangers last 10 years for anyone else's. It's in the DNA of who I am. I would have their terraces though, we would of had a much happier and successful time with them

i vaguely remember my pragmatic, sensible, logical ex girlfriends who had a plan & could see a future, but don't have any particularly fond memories that draw me back to them despite being good at lots of stuff.....

now, think back to the crazy, unpredictable, slightly mental ex girlfriends and despite the scars (mental & actual), debts, crazy mates, drink issues, unreliability, these are the ones I reminisce about with a smile and a glint in my eye; I know they were all trouble, I knew it would be a roller coaster

but if 1 of each phoned up and asked if i had plans for the weekend I know which 1 i'd be keen to spend some time with....

and she'd be the one that lived in W12; not Middlesex

Brentford are to be applauded for what they are doing but do I give a fu kk? Not in the slightest; I'm QPR at that is the end of that

Of course I wouldn't swap our last 10 years; but Brentford like us have some really exciting players at the moment, and being where they are in the table they must be doing their nut having everything on hold.

It's a bit of a strange question to try and answer really because what happened in the last "10 yrs" would not have occurred if the prior period of utter shithousery had also not occurred in the previous 2-3yrs before that - and what would you have replaced those days with realistically

So I would say you would have to go back to when Flav & Bernie raced in to town to mark the begins of the false dawn and the day we started to lose our soul.

Would you have swapped having those F1 tossers come in and start the 'boutique' revolution and having 5 managers in one season, having a mega-tanned egotistical tvvat standing outside the main entrance demanding from fans around him the names of the people booing him and querying why "people who spend £10" are questioning how he runs that club? The new badge, poncy slippers, and the only sane young Indian member of the ownership team having to openly tell the club's technical director to shut up and stop badmouthing the players and manager every time we play.

That is the price we had to pay for that day out at Wembley with my daughters and dad but would you change it? - No, because at least in and amongst the chaos and shithousery came the chance to play in the Premier League even if those brief flirtations were often painful. So perhaps from an excitement point of view better to have gone through that with all the highs and lows than be bought out by someone else who may have saved us, but then gave us 12 years of lower mid table mediocrity both on and off the pitch

Here in sunny Baltimore whenever I wear Rangers stuff, people ask and people have heard of them. One the other day said, yeah it’s that team in Ireland. I think he meant the Scottish lot.

I know no one has ever heard of Brentford. Could that change in the next 10 years like it did with us? Quite possible.

Still I lost intrest in those flav days. now genuinely excited about Rangers and enjoy watching them play..

Perfectly sums up my feelings on this. That Adel season felt like we had finally got back there. If it wasn't for Briatore's desperation to sell up, we would not have started our first season back with a worse team than the one that got promoted. That, immediately followed by obscene contracts for mediocre players and Hughesless' appointment, paved the way for abysmal Prem seasons.

The playoff season was just an embarrassment as with that wage bill, we should have romped home. Even Zamora day had a downside as it meant that we were lumbered with Redknapp.

Only since Olly came back has it felt like we're back to who we should be...

Can we go out yet?

Mate, we nearly went out of business because of most of the last 10 years.

At which point do you grasp that?

The men who put us at risk of death are not heroes, they are morons who almost put us out of business and all we got was a fluke win at Wembley and a Happy Zamora Day hashtag... Do you honestly not get that?

Brentford haven't achieved anything yet but, unlike us, at least they haven't financially ruined the club achieving nothing and are moving into a new ground.

And I'm not trying to 'bait'... As I said in another thread I'm not here to baa my way through the accepted mantras if I think they're nonsense.

The 10 years was arbitrary but based on something said on another thread by a Bee and backed up by another on this one. They would rather have their steady on and off field improvement over recent years. Whereas I, and it appears many others, wouldn’t swap the rollercoaster that is QPR for their situation. As the advert used to say ‘some things are priceless’ and for me, I will take the downs as the highs outweigh them. If having those moments was at the expense of stability like theirs, then so be it.
