Just discovered the 5th and final series of Gotham has landed on Prime. Enjoyed the previous series about the early days of the pre Batman Bruce Wain, Penguin. Joker, et al. Very dark and set in a twilight world almost devoid of colour so quite gothic. Not sure the actor who pays Wain works but Sean Pertwee who plays his ex SAS minder is an improvement on the usual Alfred role. Oswald Cobblepot, the Penguin, makes the series. | | | |

Half way through a new Elvis documentary on Netflix. All about his 1968 comeback TV special and the history of his career leading up to it.
Fascinating to see just how much of a laughing stock he had become due to those God awful films he had to make, but also just how out of touch he has become as well.

Really enjoyed this . Wife is a huge Elvis fan but weirdly and ashamedly I didn’t really know the full Elvis story until I watched this and she filled in the gaps the doc didn’t cover .
To see how nervous and insecure he was, was a real eye opener , but also how controlled he was too by management and ridiculous contracts.
Fascinating to see him in a ‘band’ set up with his mates. Totally in his element for once .
And yes, if the documentary shows you one thing , it’s my god he could really really sing |  | | |

Seeing it appear on iplayer last night, I decided to start rewatching BBC's 2005 production of Bleak House that I enjoyed when it first aired.
Well, I think it's even better the second time around. For me, this has to be the best literary adaptation I have ever seen, and dare I say it, it actually enhances Dicken's novel with its fabulous evocation of 1830's London and brilliant casting. And the exceptional script and clever structure accentuate the fact that Bleak House is essentially a crime thriller.
But it's worth watching as a social history document alone, because you get a visceral sense of just how horrific the lives of many people were back then, living cheek-by-jowl with the sumptuous late-Georgian splendour of the rich.
I think it's so good, I suggest taking your time to fully absorb everything that's going on, because even the sets are worth lingering over - especially the incredible interiors. It's just feckin fantastic! A great series to lead you into Christmas. |  |

My sister recommended this to me on Friday as a "yank version of Luther"
Now I wasn't much of a Luther fan (Idris Elba... Vandross I certainly was / am) so approached with a degree of sniffiness.

Yeah, just finished it. Really enjoyed it, I liked it's low-budget near-monochrome that reflected the bleakness of the Donegal landscape and the people eking out their existence there. I also liked the fact it was in Irish, after a while I was able to tune into the cadences of their speech, if not the meaning. | |

Im two thirds of the way through, one of the best series I've seen in ages. Strong performances throughout, in particular the actors playing the Price sisters and Gerry Adams. They've done an excellent job of taking the complicated narrative structure of the book and serializing it into discrete episodes. [Post edited 1 Dec 2024 7:45]

A while back, my wife watched a long running Israeli series, and decided she'd picked up Hebrew.
I turned the subtitles off, turned out she hadn't.
