![]() Friday, 6th Aug 2010 14:58 Manager Paul Simpson has plugged the defensive gap left by left back Michael Rose, by recruiting former Huddersfield Town defender Robbie Williams. Rose opted to leave Edgeley Park in the summer after four years in SK3 and the Hatters have recruited a replacement on the eve of the new season. The 25-year-old was released by Huddersfield at the end of the 2009/10 season after his contract came to an end and the Hatters have taken him on without taking a look at him in friendly action. Manager Paul Simpson has cast his eye over various trialists this summer as he looked to sign a new left back, but none caught his eye and so he has swooped to take on Williams. Robbie's first team opportunities at the McAlpine Stadium were limited last season due to the signing of Dean Heffernan and the emergence of Lee Peltier, as he made 21 appearances as the Terriers ended up losing out to eventual Play-off winners Millwall. In his career with Huddersfield, Robbie made a total of 87 appearances and scored 7 goals although he has also played for Blackpool (on loan) and Barnsley. The 5' 10" player has won the League One play-offs twice, after winning promotion with Barnsley in 2005/06 and then with Blackpool the following year. County will have to get out of League Two first if Robbie aims to make it a hat-trick of promotions from League One. Robbie will wear the number 3 shirt during his time at Edgeley Park.
