Nathan Wood starts for England U21 tonight ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ‘👠on 21:42 - Mar 28 by Dr_Parnassus
Why?
Transfer fees don’t go to them, everything we bring in from transfers goes back into the club.
I think it is bordering on xenophobia, Doc. I know people do not like these observations in woke land but I am not a woke. Who have the US owners sold. ?
Downers for a whopping £9m rising to £14m - great business.
Obafemi for a decent £3.5m a player so childish he would make "get me out of here" faces to the cameras on his way to training.
Garrick for pennies freeing a slot.
Whitaker not sold. Piroe not sold. Manning not sold.
The damage done by the feuding 2016-2022 never ends.
Voracious Yankee asset strippers is another fake narrative.

They can’t win and like you said there is certainly an element of xenophobia.
They reject a load of bids for Whittaker and get criticised for calling him back and not selling. Then they get criticised in advance when people expect players to be sold.
They get criticised for not spending money, then when they put in £16m of their own money and spend the highest amount we ever have as a club outside the EPL - they are criticised for it not being enough.
In what world does this make sense?

There’s a thing.
A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.
According to Wikipedia and Transfermarkt he’s contracted until June 2024, so they’d better sort something out soon regarding a new contract or flog him before he walks next year.
The examples quoted by the Res are (in my opinion) the reason Martin retains the support of the owners, he’s bringing in players and increasing their values.

Not really.
Every player we bring in has the realistic potential to increase in value, every manager we have ever had has done this, it’s not unique to Russell Martin.
Bring in players for a low price and should they perform adequately then their value increases.
This has been the case forever, the club is a testing ground for unproven and lower level players - if they sink they sink, if they swim then they increase in value.
I’d argue under Russell our players aren’t increasing in value enough.
- Piroe should be nailed on £15m+ but probably looking at £8m/£9m now he’s playing out wide. - Darling should be firing on all cylinders with his talent but isn’t getting consistent game time. - Obafemi couldn’t be handled and he’s a £8m player all day long - Pato is bursting with talent and again we struggled to shift him - Whittaker was one of the best players in League 1 and he can’t get a tune out of him
The above should be around £35m-£40m worth of talent. We would struggle to get half that.
Then there is the likes of Fisher, Lati, Ogbeta and Joseph who seem completely static or reversing at Swansea.
Increasing players values is not something I would list as a particularly positive attribute for Russell.
Performing well in the league naturally increases players values to their max potential, so getting in someone competent will kill two birds with one stone. We become successful on the pitch and our players values increase, they go hand in hand.
Otherwise individual performers will increase a bit, but nowhere near their max potential returns. He can’t live off Flynn Downes for the rest of his career.

Perhaps it's the process and the owners can see it.

Brentford is a selling club and has sold very well and bought very well. Swansea sells very well abut in recent years has not bought very well causing a cash crunch. Fans should not get upset at selling as long as the buying is good.
Swansea's recruitment has a look of a two bit affair. Its hard to understand why the US owners have not upgraded this field. Selling is the easy bit.
Look at Brentford's sales. It goes against the logic that selling cubs cannot be successful. They can if they replace with better.

Certainly, free transfer brought in that could certainly go for a fee if he performs well.

We were selling the likes of Danny Graham for £5m and buying Michu for £2m. Selling Ashley Williams for £10m and buying Chico for £2m. Selling Scott Sinclair for £8m and buying Pablo for £5m.
The list goes on and on.
Different markets command different fees, spending less doesn’t mean you are getting worse players. That’s a myth that should never have got off the ground.
Selling is not only inevitable but desirable, we want to be selling players at the peak values.
It should be actively encouraged by fans, who should by now understand how the club needs to operate. Not to be used as a stick to beat the owners with who are putting more money in than any other owners we have ever had.
If they hadn’t been made the easy scapegoats to deflect blame away from our manager that some absolutely adore for whatever reason, then their recent dealings with regards to conversions and speculated further external funding would be met with fanfare.
However it went largely unmentioned.
