New Manager: odds on 15:19 - May 18 by DannyPaddox | An interesting question from DMM that remains unanswered. I’ve another question. Is Warburton still technically the manager and in the role for an arbitrary date like the end of May? And could this be the factor why there hasn’t been an immediate replacement announced? |
Good shout that. Clearly you’d think attached Contracts would run until just after the play off finals are held plus a bit. To appoint someone ahead of that could be considered as contrived dismissal or some other HR claim. Also you wouldn’t pay two “coaches” It’s a short summer so I’d expect new man in 1st June No doubt plenty of underhand chatting going on with clubs off the record throughout the Leagues…. Look at reports on Birmingham for instance

True, I overstated, guilty as charged. But they've gone from 'I think' to 'just appoint Eustace as caretaker' - so it's a little more than thinking isn't it? It's believing. Besides, point stands: there's a hell of a lot of panic going on over guesswork.

“ To appoint someone ahead of that could be considered as contrived dismissal or some other HR claim. ” But Warburton was not dismissed. Of course there are safeguards against unfair dismissal but I don’t think there are any HR issues regarding not renewing a contract.

Now there's a real man's man - he'd whip that squad into shape in no time, give those lads a touch of the old Danish tough love. I myself wouldn't be averse to Ok sorry wrong thread.

New Manager: odds on 17:35 - May 18 with 4915 views | bosh67 | Jon Dahl Tommasson could be an interesting appointment although he has no experience in English football. His scoring rate was insane as a player. He’s meant to be a tough love character but it may be what we need. With Sol Campbell, Tim Sherwood and Kermit the frog being banded about he may not be a bad choice.

I stand corrected! Steve Cooper looks like he’s led a life so I can’t believe he’s young enough to graduate SGP. Potentially at least two promotion gaining managers under 45 is really good. We need to get on this bandwagon, give them time and space, and enjoy the fruits in 5-10 years. Appointing a unheard name with no baggage is appealing. We should never appoint a manager old enough to have danced to the locomotion. [Post edited 18 May 2022 19:18]

By all accounts he priced himself out of the Hibs job. Are we in a position to offer more money than Hibs !
New Manager: odds on 19:15 - May 18 with 4403 views | Pippo1982 | I think Jon Dahl Tomasson would be a great appointment for us. He’s played in some great teams with legends of the game in Italy (he won the league, cup and champions League with AC Milan), Germany, Spain, Holland (winning trophies there too) and a very brief spell with Newcastle United, which although didn’t go well, he was only 18 years old at the time and to be fair Newcastle were in a bit of a state! I think he may have been Les Ferdinand’s replacement or bought with the Les’s transfer fee when he went to Tottenham. He’s been managed by some good managers himself at those clubs. Wikipedia, although not always accurate, says he won some youth awards when playing in Holland so he knows what it takes to establish himself at a young age. I would have thought he’d be the ideal person for a young player to learn from. As a coach / manager, he’s got Champions League experience with Malmo and has won the Swedish League with them after a period where they hadn’t won it in a few seasons. Look at what Graham Potter has done after coming from the a successful period in Sweden... I was listening to a podcast today where Tomasson was interviewed by a European football journalist called Graham Hunter and he comes across really well, full of energy, ambitious, adaptable and youth-focused (which is the route we’re taking as a club according to Nedum Onouha). Of note, he talked about the mentality of young players abroad and how they question everything and how he’s dealt with that as a manager - football in England seems to be going down this route too. He’s probably of an age where both younger players and those with experience will know who he is and will probably have good links to the European market. He speaks a few languages which I would have thought is important when trying to get players in from abroad. He was interested in the Hibs manager’s job before Lee Johnson was appointed yesterday so surely he’d come to us! The only thing is having listened to that podcast, I don’t see him being easily controlled by Les - something that might not work in his favour…

I thought he's still contracted to Malmo? Took them to the Champions League last year and they beat Rangers. If he is being looked at/interviewed I'd be very happy with that.

Just to be really picky on this dismissal point, for the purposes of Part 10 of the Employment Rights Act 1996 (“ERA”), ERA, s95(1)(b) is what you need to look at. That subsection provides that an employee is dismissed by his employer if: (b)he is employed under a limited-term contract and that contract terminates by virtue of the limiting event without being renewed under the same contract, A n annually renewable one year contract is a limited term contract. If MW had such a contract and it was not renewed, he was dismissed. For completeness, ERA Part 10 deals with unfair dismissal. Obviously, MW needed two years’ continuous employment for an ordinary unfair dismissal claim, but he had that.
