Semi finals 19:49 - Feb 11 with 1945 viewssaint22

Easiest draw for us probably though away won’t be easy

I'm just annoyed we can't go. Beat Bournemouth, which is perfectly possible and we are at Wembley. And we can't go!!! Imagine Ralph with the crowd at Wembley stadium.

Time to bury the ghost of the painful relegation of 2005 and the shocking management of Harry Redkrapp.

A word of caution. This will be our THIRTY-FIFTH major cup QUARTER-FINAL if you include the European one, and we've only won 1 cup out of all of them. I guess you could say, we're due another one. I don't think there is any other team in the country ,and possibly not the whole world, that has been in that many quarter-finals and only won 1 cup.

Most teams who have been in that many have 3 to 5 trophies to show for it.

Anyway, there is some more good news. Bournemouth have a crucial midweek league game against Swansea before the quarter-final; while we have a whole week to prepare for it.

But, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Can you please change the topic heading to quarter-finals?

79 league cup vs Leeds - 1-0 and Terry Curran with the highlight of his career for us!

I celebrated with the man of the match, Terry Gennoe, after that game. That game was probably his best for us too. There was a great atmosphere at cup games in the late 70s and the Leeds fans in the Archer's were the loudest away fans I ever heard at the Dell

It's all about the expectation.

A draw agains City or United would have been very depressing. But win this and we go to Wembley - we're going to be full of enthusiasm anticipating and watching this!

Feels like a welcome bit of good fortune to me after a sh!tty spell.

As I said, we've been in 15 major cup semi-finals. The 1963 FA Cup semi-final v Man United was the first I can recall although I was too young to be there. But, in our early years, we were one of the top teams in the country and so reached quite a few semi-finals: 1898, 1900, 1902, 1908. Then came some more surprising ones, in 1925, 1927 and the famous 1963 one.

My first was the 1976 semi-final v Crystal Palace in 1976, which I enjoyed more than the final. One newspaper report said it was the noisiest Stamford Bridge had ever been and they weren't far wrong. The Saints fans in the Shed end that day showed what great support we could give if only we had a big home end, which, of course, we never had at the Dell.

I have to say that for someone who has spent a great part of his adult life working abroad, I have been lucky to witness some of Saints' biggest games. In order to be at the 1986 semi-final v Liverpool, I flew several thousand miles and bought a mini-season ticket just to get into that one game. We lost but I don't regret being there.

Beyond the major cups the ZDS semi final in 92 doing the double over Chelsea with crowds of about 8000 at both legs

Did anyone else to go the quarter final replays against Forest in 1963,three nil down after 15 mins and an equaliser in the 89th minuite, stayed that way in extra time, then on to white Hart lane where they didn't expect the gate to be 40,000, most of the Saints fans couldn't get in till almost half time!! A great 5-0 win,I managed to get a ticket for the semi at Villa park but had flu, never been so disappointed,it was a cold winter 63!!

That cup run encapsulated the experience of watching Saints over the years. Incredible high of White Hart Lane followed by incredible low of Villa Park. You were lucky to miss the semi. I'm not sure I've got over it yet.

Frankly, I'm astounded 130 hasn't joined this thread.

But then again, we've done a decent job outlining and summarizing all the facts; I accepted we are trophy dodgers and its time sfc start to write a new chapter. Our last 8, last 4, last 2 appearances and records are unacceptable to continue in the future and change is now inevitable. COYS.
