I knew we had a chance as soon as Ralph left Redmond off the team sheet. Nervy, but a good result to build on.

Did what we needed to do but really should have scored at least a third but for poor finishing/decision making. Great shift from Tella and a cracking goal from Adams. 3 points the most important thing from today but yet another injury to a key player.

Well thank f**k for that.

Inspired substitution after 10 mins to swap Ings for Adams who was like a man possessed today. He likes playing against the Blades. Tella was excellent again and all good things in the first half went through him.

I know it’s been tough being a Saints fan these past few weeks but spare a thought for Sheffield United fans if that is the dross they have to witness every match.

Let’s keep the winning run going. Next up Man City......

I was nervy until we got ahead and the second goal was a relief. After that 3-0 always more likely than 2-1. The returning players took a while to get going but I hope we have played ourselves into form in that last half hour. What is it with Redmond at the moment? He is usually labelled 'frustrating' because he does good things with no end result - now the good things have gone.

Centre-halves played very well as did Armstrong. I know Ings has been off form but I hope he isn't out too long as he is a match winner on his day. Talking of which - Adams does like Sheffield!! Let's hope that gives him some confidence.

Wednesday is obviously damage limitation. I hope Man C beat Manure tomorrow because to reverse Nick's logic in the preview - every win in a row leads you nearer to your next defeat!!

Sorry to add again but I forgot Tella and Forster as being worth a mention. FF caught everything and Tella was the 'thorn in the side' all game until replaced by Redmond.

What a difference a couple of returning key players mean. Deserved win which could have been bigger had Minamino, Redmond, Tella and Adams scored on their chances in the second half. Great game by a lot of players, not least Tella. Central defence played well and Forster looked very good too.
Fantastic strike by Che Adams to 2-0, so happy for him.
MOTM between Adams, Tella, Armstrong and Vesty, I think.
We look out of the darkness :-)

Tella was excellent, faded a bit in the second half but terrorised the SU defence. Won a nailed on penalty. KWP was also just a class above. The first 10 minutes he bossed the right side. Big Frase was great. JB and JV just seemed to get better as the game went on.

Armstrong was his usual direct self and understandably Diallo looked a bit rusty but did a good job most of the time.

Adams goal was a screamer. I just hope this settles him a bit. If he thinks he now has to hit everything as hard as possible then he may be no further forward.

We should have got 3 or 4 just need some calmer heads when through on goal. Adams and Redmond both opted to try to hit it in the far post when a pass would have given a better chance.

Minor Quibbles aside TFFT. We looked to grow in confidence as the match went on. Ings injury aside, hopefully we can make further progress in the next few games.

p.s. After this inspired performance I fear the M.City game less. Forster has taken his chance well. Even bullied McBurney on a corner and he caught a few crosses very well. I hope he keeps performing and stays in the team.

Funny old game. Tella, Stuey and Vesta were our standouts but everyone played their part in what was a pretty routine and comfortable win against a doomed side.
The best thing is the "routine" and "comfortable". If I can write those two words after the next game.....!!

I wouldn't get too excited about FF's performance....yes, he caught a few things in the middle of the 6-yard box, but whenever SU sent a high cross to the far post FF was a mess. Apart from that, and apart from Diallo giving the ball away most of the time, and apart from Redmond once again being a waste of space when he came on, a good team performance, with a few tactical wrinkles that obviously confused SU. Good to have KWP back! This team's bad results have pretty much coincided with Ralph's clueless efforts at replacing him!

All the players in their best positions, Diallo and KWP risked from the start was the key decision. Diallo fantastic pass to put Tella in on goal for the pen. MOTM toss up between Armstrong, Tella and KWP. Che with a instinctive thunderbolt. Fleck should have walked for the tackle on Che.

Tella added what Saints have been missing for a long time - genuine speed up front. He murdered the full backs and effectively won the match for Saints. Bet Liverpool and Tottenham are lining up their sights already. Saints pretty much controlled the game. Eventually Diallo deputised well for Romeu although he had a dodgy first half an hour, presumably a bit rusty after his return. The defence were solid and the central pairing of Bednarek and Vestergaard were especially good, covering each other, playing long balls from defence with Bednarek also having several forays up the right-hand side. Ward -Prowse played a deeper role but that seemed to suit him - reminded me of Bobby Moore - directing the show. Minamino played a full 90 minutes and it was an all round performance often tracking back and helping out the defence. The only disappointment was Ings going off after 15 minutes, however, he hasn't been playing well and this gave Adams a chance to show what he could do - and he did with a thunderbolt half volley from 22 yards. Important and excellent win, hopefully Saints can carrying on in this vein without any more debillitating injury losses. Fingers crosssed.
