| Forum Thread | Spurs stadium at 18:19 26 May 2024
Went along for the Champions Cup rugby yesterday. First time at their new stadium, and a few thoughts/observations: The stadium itself is absolutely awesome. Seating, atmosphere, food and drink outlets, merchandising outlets, facilities all top class and imho probably better than Wembley. Sold out stadium and none of the concourse felt in any way cramped or uncomfortable. Draught beer options a little limited, Heineken or Neck Oil, obviously no Guinness was probably a bit of a glaring miss, but vodka bars, gin bars, whacking long bars to get your beer. Food was a bit meh I thought, pies, sausage rolls, hot dogs, none of them much better than average really. Interestingly, the staff behind the counters probably not very much more inspiring than what we get at LR. I guess getting decent quality staff for one day every other week is as much a problem for them as us. But obviously a lot more of them yesterday, so maybe the quality of service depended a bit on who you got. We are probably better placed for transport options to and away from the ground. WHL or Bruce Grove, otherwise it's a long walk to Tottenham Hale of Seven Sisters. i don't know how long it took to get planning approval for the redevelopment of the stadium, but bang in the middle of a busy town centre, getting it done strikes me as quite an achievement. Bottom line I suppose is that it's an excellent facility for making money; reputedly the club reckoned to clear a profit of £1m on each match day from hospitality when the stadium opened, and that figure must have increased by now. The stadium will have paid for itself within 10 years I'd imagine. |

Yeah. We used to be in one of them. Now all we have to do is finish ahead of Watford and we'll be going up as Champions |
| Forum Thread | A word to the wise for Clive... at 18:55 29 Mar 2024
It's Easter weekend, make it easy on yourself with the match report. Nobody's really interested in the first 91 minutes today, they only want to hear what happened from 92 minutes on... But if there's no use of the phrase "Goal from Outer Space, part two in a (very very) occasional series", I will be very disappointed. |
| Forum Thread | Travelling to Wembley Stadium at 22:47 11 Jun 2023
Going up there on Tuesday with Mrs W to see Harry Styles. Not sure whether to take the train, take the car and park away from Wembley at one of the underground stations a few stops away? Any advice please guys? |
| Forum Thread | Please, PLEASE, for the love of God... at 19:10 8 May 2023
I am just hoping and praying that someone in charge of the club reads this forum. Gareth Ainsworth may have been popular as a player. He may want to do his best for the club. He's got lovely hair, and his new single is bound to be a hit, but for Christ's sake, please let's everyone recognise he is not the right person to have as manager here, and let's cut whatever losses we need to before he spends whatever few bob we've got on bringing in League One cloggers to play League One clogging. We've had a game today against a team already on holiday. We were safe, and I had hoped we might get a glimpse of what idea of attacking play he's capable of organising. I had hoped we might see the players get the ball down and try to play. But no. Launch it, play it forward, no matter if you've got the ball under control, no matter if you're playing it vaguely in the direction of one of your colleagues. Swing it forward. Absolutely no attacking plan otherwise. Bristol as I said had nothing to play for, but could still be @rsed to do the basics of football, pass and move. Anyone trying to convince everyone that GA is magically going to conjure up something next season that is watchable outside of bl00dy Wycombe is kidding themselves, and the usual suspects will no doubt be out in force to tell us we don't understand later. Well I've been watching football for long enough to know what's right and what isn't, and GA's idea of football isn't going to work at Championship level. As the old saying goes, if it looks like a dog and barks like a dog, it's probably a dog. And that football might win at Cruft's, but that's it. In his comments on Johansen - "The intensity we’re playing at the moment doesn’t suit your passing game". Sums GA up in a nutshell. Energy, enthusiasm, intensity - footballing technique and skill nowhere on the list of priorities. Please, PLEASE, for the love of God, get shot of him NOW. |
| Forum Thread | Rugby European Champions Cup Final at 19:02 29 Apr 2023
I'm thinking about trying to get to Dublin for the final if I can get hold of tickets. Looks like ticketmaster are the distributors, but nothing available with them. Does anyone know of any Irish second hand ticket sites, similar to Twickets? I'm happy to pay a little over the odds, but not be ripped off by the likes of viagogo etc. Any suggestions greatly appreciated guys, thanks in advance. |
| Forum Thread | First goal tonight at 23:36 14 Feb 2023
I feel I have to ask, I'm not looking to make excuses, but was their first goal not offside? I've kind of giving up trying to understand what offside is any more, however Seny spills, the first Sunderland player nudges the ball forward towards goal and the second guy knocks it over the line. Both players looked to be ahead of the last man and I can understand that Seny plays the first guy on but the bloke who scores is surely off? |
| Forum Thread | Getting older at 23:07 8 Feb 2023
So I'm sure some of you may have paid some attention to my occasional rants and may know that I'm into my second 50 years of following my beloved Hoops. And it is my fervent intention to complete that second 50 years to add to the first. You'll maybe be surprised if you've ever read any of my posts to learn that I am actually in most respects more glass half full than half empty. I do secretly believe that one day we will put right the wrongs of 1975-76 and claim our spot at the summit of English football. Yes yes I know...but you have to believe. I've also always believed I'll live forever. I actually enjoy being here too much, despite the inevitable knockbacks of life. The idea I'll die some day really has never really occurred to me. The fact that bit by bit my body reminds me I'm getting older...well, in my head I'm still 26. Why 26 and not 25 I've no idea. It's always been 26. Who that bugger is looking back at me in the bathroom mirror each morning, I've no clue. The world still worships at my feet. Seriously. So where's all this going? Well. Over the last few years, I have come to know of a few people who suffer from degenerative illness. A couple who were friends of my mother in law. Sadly, more recently, my mum, primarily as a result of being involved in a road accident going to her pilates class at the age of 89. She's coming up to 95 now. A good friend of mine whose mum died just recently after years suffering from dementia. And I've just watched an interview with Bryan Murray, who some may remember from a TV programme called The Irish RM, or slightly more recently as the incestuous Trevor Jordache in Brookside. He has been diagnosed with dementia, and although in the early stages, the effects of the disease are there to see, although subtly at this stage. The interview was with Tommy Tiernan by the way, best show of its kind in my opinion. Some great interviews over the years. But I digress. That interview suddenly brought home to me that despite all my natural optimism, despite my inclination to believe that everything will be alright for me, because generally I've always been fairly robust health wise, despite all that...I dread the idea of succumbing to a degenerative disease like alzheimers or dementia. More than almost any other illness that might strike me. Not for my own selfish reasons, but because of the way it erodes and changes relationships with those around you. I've seen how all the happy memories of a life you've had with someone can be lost or overwritten by the gradual decline of your mental faculties, and it frightens me. I wouldn't want to put my wife, kids or grandkids through any of it, but I'm aware that it's something I might ultimately have no control over. Thankfully, thankfully, nothing to suggest I have anything to worry about on that score, just to be clear. I guess the point of this thread is to throw it open to us Rangers fans of a certain age, to give an opportunity to any of us who are becoming conscious of/worried about perhaps no longer being the axis of the universe we always thought we were, to voice and/or discuss the concerns or fears we have about getting on a bit. Either on this thread or by PM. To round off, I'm reminded of a joke I heard many years ago. A man goes to the doctor who tells him " I've got your results back and it's not good news I'm afraid. You have cancer and you also have alzheimers." To which the man replies "Well I suppose it could be worse. I could have cancer" Well I laughed. Back when I was younger.... |

Surely, SURELY the moment the powers that be look at the LOTG and realise that whatever passes for an offside law is absolute b0llox. |
| Forum Thread | Stanley 74 today at 18:43 24 Dec 2022
Just a little reminder to me to say what occurred to me watching the World Cup. Watching Messi and the things he did I found myself thinking again and again "wow, that reminds me of Stan". I was genuinely happy for Messi to end up with the accolade that had eluded him. For many younger Rs fans that never saw Stan play, it's hard to imagine that someone that good could have played for our club for so long. He really was that good, and the only shame is that there is so little footage of him, particularly compared to the wall to wall coverage available today. It's heartbreaking to think that the man himself can't even remember how magical he was. Happy Birthday Stan. |
| Forum Thread | Rugby - France v Boks at 14:42 13 Nov 2022
Just watching this on Prime. 12 minutes gone, Bok sent off for dangerous challenge. Two things: 1. As I've pointed out in previous posts on the ineptitude of football refs, in rugby, you as a player break the rules, the rules are applied, and if that means you are sent off early in the game, potentially ruining the game as a contest, then so be it. I'd far rather things were done this way in football. 2. Just how thick do these rugby players have to be to put themselves in a position to be red carded, hamstringing their team mates for almost the entire game? It's televised, offences will be spotted almost every time. Very little chance you'll get away with it. The coaching staff, the rest of the team must be absolutely seething. |
| Forum Thread | Ref at 22:08 28 Oct 2022
Good performance by Brum, well disciplined, deserved the win. But f@ck me, you'll go a long, LONG, long long way to witness a worse refereeing performance than that. Should have blown to stop play when the ball hit him in the build up to their second goal. Should have been our free kick moments before anyway. Bottled sending off Hannibal - he could have had three yellows, let alone two, the penalty should have been retaken as the goalie was off his line, Armstrong should have had another penalty for Sanderson's challenge, hardly a thrown in taken by Brum within 15 yards of where it went out. That's just off the top of my head. For all that Brum deserved it, they probably wouldn't have won it without that clown. |
| Forum Thread | Don't think I can stand another season at 23:39 16 Aug 2022
I pay my money to watch our lot and as much as I want them to be fantastic and win every game 6-0, I can tolerate watching poor performances from them, I've had nearly 50 years to get used to it. But I'm not sure I can spend another season watching such rank officiating. Absolutely no effort to put a stop to the timewasting that started in or around the fifth minute of the game. Countless fouls from Blackpool, 2 yellow cards. Free kicks taken yards ahead of where they should be, throw ins taken about 10 yards of where they should be, despite being told by officials to move back. And in the final insult, four minutes of added time that should have been about 10. Last season showed me, it's mainly just a different face, same ineptitude. And all this stuff can be so easily resolved. So frustrating. |
| Forum Thread | GAA - Tyrone and Mayo season over tomorrow? at 20:43 3 Jun 2022
In Lanzarote, and much to the annoyance of the new Mrs Watford, I’ve found somewhere to watch Clare v Meath tomorrow. However, a possibility that both last year’s finalists will be done by the end of the weekend. What do we think? Personally I think Tyrone look a mess and will exit tomorrow. Less certain about Mayo but I wouldn’t be surprised if they bowed out too. What do other Irish Rs think? |
