In the same week in 1979 I went to see The Jam at The Rainbow, Finsbury Park and The Scorpions at The Hammersmith ODEON. Love guitar music whatever shade.
Funnily enough,RangersRocker,I was lucky enough for my first two gigs I went too to be The Jam at The Rainbow in 1979 (I was a clueless,style free 13 year old and turned up in wellington boots!) and before that David Bowie - the mod turned Rock God - at Earls Court in 1978.Both foo king sensational!!

Was supposed to go on the Ziggy Stardust tour of the States with him as road crew,but I bottled it because of the flying. He doesn't.or didn't then travel by plane either as i recall.Nice guy,and his then wife was a real cutie.

Jeez. Having the opportunity is enough to impress. I doubt I've ever been within 250 Miles of that genius at any given time. They just don't make 'em like him anymore. Well... I'm sure they do but record companies will not allow a man to release such varied and brilliant records (some that didn't catch on till later) over the span of 40 years. Even some of the newer stuff is fantastic.
We won't mention Tin Machine...

Whats all this bollocks with david bowie/ clash and Ska etc? They was not Mod. I have no issue with them as artists, but thery was not part of the scene( unless you were a skinhead or f##king tuneless in music), so why the youtube video clips?
So, anyone on hear remember the punch-ups in South london with Millwall in about the 1980's and The Viceroys SC back in 78 - 80 ?
Oh. one other thing, nice to se a clip of Jimmy on his scooter in Sawley Road, Wormholt Estate, i remember it well when they were making the film, especally the radio adds on capital for Mods with scooters to go to Brighton for the filming - happy days....... trouble was, i could not get a day off work

I found out a couple of years ago that my uncle was the organist of a church in East Ham and ran the choir in which a youthful Steve Marriott sang. So the custom of soul singers being church singers is maintained even for non-obvious candidates.
Anyhow, said uncle has a group photo of the choir including Steve Marriott.
This was surprising for a number of reasons. Why had he not mentioned it before? I never new that Uncle D was an organist and choir master? I always thought Uncle D was an atheist (he is!?)
