Our very own RWC thread.

Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England will join 16 other nations as they compete for the ultimate prize in rugby – the Webb Ellis Cup – which was last won by the Springboks in 2019. The opening match of Rugby World Cup 2023 will see hosts France face three-time winners New Zealand on Friday 8th September. The final will take place seven weeks later on Saturday 28th October.

That game against France has taken more out of them than you’d think. They are just not on it. Big mistakes, poor options. England will win this.

Bold statement. The Boks have an amazing bench . When England are in the SA 22 they need to take it to them instead of kicking like Farrell did that time.

South Africa beating themselves at the moment, and turning down 2 kickable pens.

Massive moment SA fetching Pollard on - he could change the game in the 2nd half.

Somebody shove the ball in Farrell's gobby mouth.

England are not offering much going forward, but they are scrapping well.

South Africa are playing themselves out of the game.

I’ve changed my mind regarding the final. NZ will breeze the final if SA play like this.

England must be gutted.

No big fan of England but the South Africans are the biggest bunch of cheating cents you will ever come across. Totally cynical. Hope New Zealand stick 40 on them.

England have lost but as a spectacle I thought it was a dreadful game. Hardly any running with the ball all kicking and brutal forward play.

Absolutely, awful to watch. I don’t think the weather helped, but England and South Africa both have big bruising packs and don’t offer a great deal in the backs.

Not a night for the backs that was for sure.Cracking drop goal from Farrell but not enough to seal victory ,the last 10 minutes I always thought SA would come up with the goods

It was dreadful anti Rugby which SA are famous for. Which is a pity as they can move the ball with terrific wingers. However that's their mind set. New Zealand will play great attacking Rugby next week and will win the competition, if there's any justice .

They remind me of the horrible Pontypool side if the eighties. Totally cynical in their approach but effective. Also an annoying but effective scrum half.

And breathe.

Surprised SA didn't pick Faf and Pollard to start for their last match, then more surprised they didn't pick them to start this match, surely they have to start them in the final, unless it is some kind of tactic, knowing that coach/adviser guy they have got it might be, because people used to think that the bomb squad front row players that used to come on off the bench were stronger than their starting front row (perhaps not the case now, but they do have form for innovative tactics).

SA no good in wet conditions very good in dry conditions, NZ should be much more used to wet conditions, SA hoping for a dry day for the final no doubt.

If the New Zealand pack can get close to parity, their backs can move the ball around the park and potentially wear the Saffers down, NZ have some potent backs who can cause SA big problems. If the NZ pack can’t get parity, then they could have a long day.

This England team did amazing today and with a bit more confidence could have won the game. New Zealand are a different animal and were written off but peaked just at the right time. SA have had three real tough games. Ireland France and England. The Blacks will win the final (hopefully) and victory for the game itself against Rassie and his cynical cheating gits!!

You’re right but I think the conditions put paid to a free flowing game if rugby.

I would say that SA physically displayed the well known definition of stupidity throughout that game. Steward was faultless in those circumstances.

Yep!! For the future of the game hopefully and I hate saying this New Zealand will win the final. Rassie and his crew are a bunch of cynical close to the line cheating barstewards. Which they don't need to be because they have bags of talent but would rather put the ball in the air.

You’ve got to play the way to give you the best chance of winning the game. Ok, they failed, but they countered SA and made them panic for 90% of that game so it nearly worked.

Add in the awful conditions and it was never a night for ‘proper’ rugby.

It was anti rugby by the English they deserved to fail, only two chances for a try in the match that I can remember both to South Africa the try they scored was one and the Le Roux kick through that run dead before he could touch it down was the other and that was it, unless I fell asleep, same old England just played for penalties and drop goals.
