Honestly England are truly horrendous to watch - it is mesmerising how many players are playing 30-40% within themselves every time they pull on an England shirt.
They appointed the ultimate establishment yes man when Allardyce proved a bit too edgy and the consequences are so glaringly obvious - a semi-organised defence made to look better than it is by mediocre opposition being unwilling to have a go at Wembley, and a total lack of creativity owing to a requirement to endlessly play people with "potential" long after it should have been either realised or no longer mentioned. Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The FA will argue that qualification demonstrates they appointed the right man, I would suggest (as, to be fair, has Southgate himself acknowledged) the fact that Scotland seem likely to finish second tells you a lot about the group. Personally I will be amazed if England reach the second round, let alone pass it (which we haven't done without Sven since 1990 of course).

Agree with all that apart from the Big Sam bit. I remember really wanting him to the manager and then he just went and picked the same team as the previous manager (can' t even remember who that was).

Hodgson.
The entertainment would have been non-existent but for:
1. Paper planes, and the exacting feat of landing one on the pitch. No easy task. No doubt the FA will hand over the paper plane contract to Ryanair who will cancel all such displays during future games
2. Glen Hoddle's insightful punditry, particularly so when talking about Harry Kane's goal "He's not had his shooting boots on tonight but he's had his toe boots on." At least the buffoon won't have many games to comment on for England in Russia. Hoddle, not Kane.

Although for all of his limitations as a pundit, England arguably, played their most attractive football under Hoddle.

" Private Eye " had a great cartoon on the front page before the last World Cup. The England team are filing down the stairs from the plane. The pilot is leaning out of the cockpit window saying " Shall I leave the engines running guys ? "
They weren't far wrong.

I turned the telly on in time to watch England`s game, then flicked up a channel where I found Northern Ireland about to play Germany,so watched that instead. Glad I did,the Germans scored three cracking goals and though the locals put up a good showing,it was really just a stroll in the park for the world champions. No pretentiousness about them, they`ve got a job to do and they do it,a joy to watch, unlike our mob of charlatans.

If they were a club side they would b lucky to be in the top half of the prem...I'd fancy the chances of a Stoke or WBA to beat them.
A squad lacking in depth, a management team lacking in any creative ideas,Sourhgates about as uncharismatic as they come,...oh for a Gazza,a Bryan Robson,Beardsley/Lineker combination!!!

Managed to sit through 10 minutes of the first half and about 7 of the second. The following captures the whole thing very well.
Thumbs up, for the magnificent Buzzcocks. 😀
But yes it was a bloody bore, though at least we won. Would love to see entertaining wins, rather than boring wins, but better than entertaining defeats I suppose.
