To be honest, i thought Chico had bags and bags of talent and thought he put in some stonking performances for us. But none of us want a centre bank with the temperament of a million dollar star striker.

Is probably the fairest assessment I've read of him on here. Good post

Frederico Fernandez. on 22:06 - Dec 26 by Brynmill_Jack | He's better of course but what you're saying is ludicrous. Can't remember all this spite against him during his first season, and not much against him (play acting aside) last season either. Did you/do you watch the Swans regularly? |
What about in his 3rd ever PL game when he went to put the boot in on Louis Saha's head in a challenge at the side of the pitch where there was no danger whatsoever. That's not acceptable. He got sent off far too many times. Always felt worried about him. Don't care if he was generally good, he was a liability. Not good enough to play in the Prem cause of that alone, never mind play for us. [Post edited 26 Dec 2014 22:39]

After that not one incidence of dangerous play. Got sent off against Chelsea for two harsh yellows (aided by John Terry reffing the game and the entire Chelsea bench in the fourth officials ear), took one for the team against Palace when two of his colleagues f*cked up. Sent off 3 times in 75 appearances, twice harshly. But hey, don't let facts cloud up your prejudices.

Frederico Fernandez. on 09:13 - Dec 27 with 1381 views | blaine_scfc | Don't get all this Chico bashing, we had our best ever season with him at centre half, the one where we won our first trophy. We got the bloke for £2 million, had a touch like a FIFA player and always give his all. The diving etc was a joke, I'm not saying he was perfect but overall he was great value for money and did a great job.

What's a touch like a FIFA player? I used to enjoy Chico, however to compare him to Mr Fernandez is crazy. It's like comparing Adrian Forbes with Jefferson Montero.

Exactly Geoff. He was part of the side who won our first ever piece of major silverware, even scoring our first at Anfield on our way to Wembley. Perhaps people like Newpy who never even come to our games or some of the other Johnny come latelys don't remember the hard times. Because they weren't there!

I don't think there will be many who would have said Chico was excellent for us, BUT his diving was unacceptable and at times embarrassing.

The first time I saw Chico was at a friendly at the Liberty, I said to my mate he looks great but is going to pick up red cards, which was the case. He was an improvement on what we had but not even close to Fernandez. I realise he was part of the COC win but why wasn't he playing injury or suspension, I can't remember but do remember him throwing himself around in the celebrations.

You will also remember almost everyone was loving it and cheering him then won't you Stange if he was so poor that Monk wanted him to stay and said Chico had been magnificent for him. Anyone remember that.

Frederico Fernandez. on 21:17 - Dec 26 by JBT95 | Chico was overrated probably due to his personality. He cost us far too many times. |
As above - Monk must have been taken in too because he said he had been magnificent for him and wanted him to stay. Remembe Stoke. Monk called him an absolute warrior and by far the best player on the pitch. He indeed was prone to some error (no more so than Ash and those passbacks and other errors) and of course theatrics. But he was a great ceative forward moving player who we were lucky to have and who contributed massively to one of our most successful seasons ever. Seeesh it is like the school yard here anyone no longer with us lets forget all they achieved for us and slag him off.

The key was in the first game I first saw him he looked great and was an improvement on what we had......but not close to the Argentine international we bought to replace him. I enjoyed watching Chico but by the end of his last season with us his performances were erratic and he was starting to believe he was better than he was, the whole coco pops incident (if true) didn't paint him as a good pro either!

Indeed not, the first point was in response to the quoted post my second to the previous general slagging off by others. I can see your confusion and even considered myself before posting but thought posters would understand that I was widening my response given it was clear what Pacemaker had said from his quoted post. Apologies if it confused you.

Ah if you were not confused I do not really understand why you brought it up I will leave the "bleating" to you JF you are a much more accomplished practitioner I was just giving a counter opinion and fleshing it out with factual comments from our current manager. If you call that bleating but not some of the rewriting of history that went before obviously your opinion which you ae most welcome to.

That's a good point . If anyone slags off Chico after Monk (quite justifiably) praised him to the hilt they are by definition "monk haters" and "agenda boys". [Post edited 27 Dec 2014 10:33]
