Sweet About Connolly

Saints have boosted their hopes for next season by re signing David Connolly

Fate conspired to keep David connolly at Saints for the coming season, although he had made a few appearances at the beginning of the season, injury meant that he was not in the picture for the first few months or Nigel Adkins reign, fit again in November he returned to score a dramatic late goal against Shrewsbury in the Cup and although he wasnt quite fit the feeling was that he might well play a part in the coming months, however this wasnt the case and it looked in the New year as if Nigel Adkins had decided that Connolly just want the man for him with the arrival of Jonathan Forte.

However fate sometimes brings a hero to the fore and an injury to Barnard meant that in Harry Redknapp terms Adkins was down to the bare bones and connolly was given a chance coming off the bench that he might well of not got had barnard not been ruled out for the seaso, history shows he took that chance with both hands and showed that when fit and on form he is the best striker at the club not just in terms of goals per game ratio, but in guile and creating chances.

Now he has put pen to paper it can only be a good thing for next season, the trick of course will be keeping him fit, its possible that a lot of his action will be off the bench but the trick for next season is to keep the basis of a good squad intact and make small improvements, Connolly putting pen to paper is a step in that direction.
