I saw one betting site had Southgate at 6/1. I think there’s a danger I would die laughing if that happened.

I bet you loved telling other kids that Father Christmas wasn't real

As for comparing managers stats, I'm sure you're right but it's a bit like saying a twisted ankle is better than a broken leg.

I was surprised to see that Goodman was only 19 at the start of last season (he's only 20 now), and we gave him his first appearance in first team football. I thought he was a bit older.

….can Kieran McKenna get the Man Ure job. Apparently, he’s been a coach there before?

Binners old boy Tony Humes would be the perfect replacement at Poorman Road.

I see the National League as a bit like the photos you see of climbers queuing to get to the top of mount Everest.

I would add Woodyard to your list. Macey is like Marmite, people seem to love or hate him.

AFC Wombles certainly wouldn’t swap him for Goodman, who I believe is ever present and has conceded the lowest number of goals in the league!!!

In truth, I suspect they are both decent L2 keepers when they’ve got a functioning defense in front of them.

So how do you go about playing other Cat 3 sides? You change to a Cat3 academy, or better still a Cat 4 which is more befitting.

It's not just the best recruits that the big clubs are hoovering up. If we get any promising coaches, scouts etc, the bigger clubs academies have the money to poach them. That chap you said steered Bradley to the U's, I believe he's now at Brentford?

DH who I understand was instrumental in signing some cracking prospects is now at the Binners and so it will go on. We are out of our depth trying to compete with the big boys.

The idea is great, you cannot fault the commitment and the money spent, but like most ideologies, it doesn't actual work in the real world, but it's a big shout to admit you are wrong and to chalk off so much time, effort and money, so I guess it will continue until something goes bang, or by some miracle we discover the next Messi.

Far too early to start another round of sackings. DC’s main failure is that he cannot live up to his own hype and bullshit. We need some reality; we are a badly run club that sells anything worth a few quid and spends buttons to replace them. Just above the relegation zone is our realistic position with this wafer thin and cheap squad. No one else is going to come here and do better with the budget available and if the club continues to be run like this, ultimately, we are only going one way. Anything else is denial, or at best, wishful thinking.

We’ve signed a few excellent players, but far too many donkeys on the cheap. I am utterly astonished that anyone can think we have a better squad than last year, when Mingi, Fevs, Chilvers, McGeehan, Smith, Bradley, Goodman and even Hall are now playing regularly for better clubs and we’ve somehow ruined Read.

It’s a very thin line between clueless and tactical genius and often comes down to luck. Something we continue to be starved of. If a manager brings on a sub and the ball ricochets off of his arse and he scores the winner, the manager is genius. If the sub hits the woodwork four times and we don’t win, then he’s clueless. With Edwards, Bishop and Tovide back and couple of consecutive wins, we could be well on our way to safety. There are no good teams in L2 this year.

It is unbelievable that with all the injuries, DC cannot turn to the academy for some emergency back-up. The whole set up is a completely pointless waste of time that’s going to finish us.

Providing we are not in the bottom two at Christmas I would give them another transfer window to put right some of the howlers they have made in the transfer market, but they need cash, which I suspect is in short supply.

I don’t buy the idea that the Cowleys have been backed. It’s like having your granny’s silver down to Cash Converters, trousering £200, then popping round Home Bargains for a £1.25 bag of plastic knives and forks and then saying that you’ve treated your gran to some new cutlery.

As for dropping into the National League, there’s no way back from there nowadays, that will be the beginning of the end unless a billionaire sugar daddy appears.

How bad have things got when Ross County are referring to Col U as obscurity in England?

Good to see he has finally got a manager that can get the best out of him.

A level of ball control that our previous 'in-house' appointed managers could only dream of.

....and 4 mins added time in the first half.

The two other early Prem games had a total of 15 and 17 mins added time when you add both halves.

If this continues, they will soon have to stop for tea half way through the second half.

Good to see Palace pushing the Binners into the relegation zone. Agent Szmodics doing a fantastic job, whilst maintaining his cover scoring 2 goals in 9, but both on days when they lost.

"l don't get paid for this and my assumption is that whoever is writing on the Official site does"

Yes they do, but sadly they were signed by the Cowleys.

Probably old mates from Concord Rangers, in which case the petroleum fumes would have had an affect on their brain function.

Desperate Dan:- "the academy should be proud" (of Oscar)

Which one? Arsenal or Norwich academy? Because he was an adult when he signed for the U's and he's spent most of his time on loan at Bath and Chelmsford, so why should the failure factory be proud? I doubt they know his name.

Different Saturday, same old bullshit.

Looking ahead to the cup, surely we play our reserves? With our thin squad and mounting injuries, can we afford to risk players?

A cup run is always nice, but our league survival has to come first?

Having said that, who is our first team? Dc is the new Tinkerman.

I hope you all have a cracking day, or at least a lot better than the last time I visited the Cun#y Ground.

20 plus years ago we played them on Boxing Day and I managed to escape the family ‘festivities’ to head off along the M4. It was one of those away games where you wish you’d stayed at home. Everything went wrong. The traffic, parking, the stewards, arsehole away fans, the ref, cheating Swinedon, you name it.

Standing just the other side of some netting from particularly vile home fans didn’t help. The sort that pays good money to stand with their backs to the game, just to spit at and throw abuse and objects towards away fans. All in all, it was quite an unpleasant experience.

Middle of the second half and refreshments are kicking in, so I head off to answer the call of nature. Entering the toilets, for some inexplicable reason and in a fit of anger, I decided to boot one of the cubicle doors to vent my wrath (have I previously mentioned the inner hooligan?).

….and so, it was to be “hello my old friend instant Karma”.

I had expected the door to slam open or even fly off of its hinges, but for some reason it didn’t move and the rapid deceleration of my footwear resulted in three seriously wrecked pinkies, so bad that I was still limping in March.

To this day, I don’t know if the door was locked off because the toilet was out of order, or if there was some poor U’s fan the other side with his kacks around his ankles. If it was the latter, I like to think I did them a favour. Assuming they didn’t have a heart attack, my size 13 slamming into the door, backed up with 18 stone of aggression must have seriously hastened the arrival of any pending bowel movement and hence they would have been back in view of the pitch much quicker than anticipated. Always glad to help a fellow U’s supporter!

EDIT: Second thoughts, could one of you check that they're not still cowering in the cubicle.
