Super U's to create a Royal shock at the JCS 19:13 - Aug 13 with 4759 viewsdurham_exile

Starting XI

Macey

Hunt Kells Egbo Iandolo

Woodyard Bishop Payne

Hopper Tovide Edwards

Subs
Smith Read Terry Gordon Bendle Oni Greenidge Thorn Ihionvien

Clearly the calf injury affecting Taylor is going to be an annoying one.

Ben Goodliffe suffered a horror challenge and will definitely be out for some time.
Not only dentistry required but bruising as well.

U's 2 Royals 1

Hope the pitch plays well.
Pitch looks to have reverted to it's original dimensions.

Remember no extra time straight to penalties in the unlikely event that we don't win inside 90 minutes.

Great start, totally in control 1st half, and should have been home and hosed at that point - particularly as Kanu should have been red-carded. Reading brought on more of their first team second half, and it showed, but ultimately too little too late. Payne is showing himself to be an absolute gem - let's keep him fit for as long as possible, but there's already suggestions he's going to get the 'Read' treatment from League 2 cloggers. Nice from Macey too, don't think there was much he could do about their two goals, but two great saves in the penalty shoot-out will do wonders for his confidence.

BTW - $ky Sports coverage and commentary was dreadful. If this was supposed to be an upgrade on IFollow (and let's face it, that's normally a pretty low bar to get over) they failed miserably.

Wonder who we'll get 2nd round - certainly won't be Southend

Fantastic atmosphere tonight considering only 3,100 crowd (600 Reading). Awesome noise levels from South Stand.

Worked hard up to 60 mins, where we lost the ability to press. Two forwards for the visitors who came on second half changed to game. Fantastic strike by Savage, beat Macey all ends up for potentially goal of the season.
Woodyard covered a lot of ground and Edwards impressed wide.
Pressed well and moved to ball with good tempo without working visitors keeper enough.

Poll: No half measure either 1 or 2 ?

Payne, Woodyard, Hopper, Oni, Tovide and Ihionvien all played well.

Very impressed with Macey, two great pen saves

I love football as everyone has different opinions

My daughter and I were not impressed with Tovide or Ihionven. In fact daughter went as far to say 'Ihionven should drop his attitude and concentrate on playing football' as he is not as good as his ego believes. He did take a superb penalty though

Players that we thought played well were Payne, Bishop, Woodyard & Egbo. Our midfield is reasonably strong for league 2

Edwards - did well when he played the simple ball but needs to learn he doesn't have to beat every player.

I saw lost of positives last night and I feel some of last nights players may have played themselves into contention for a place in the starting XI for Saturday

Not sure the barriers put up in front of the counters are required. But what it did was inhibit the flow along the concourse were people were standing directly opposite.
No programmes available, or have they now gone electronic.
And those cars which parked along United way outside the Hollywood bowl, all got a ticket .🎫.

They definitely manged to do better than the new ifollow. I couldn’t even get audio last night despite it being an option (I assume the club thought video wasn’t worth the trouble?). So ended up staring at live updates on the BBC.

Great result and no shame in shipping two goals when they brought the big guns on. A few days earlier they were unlucky not to get all 3 points away at St Andrews.

It’s bound to be a cracking draw for the next round because I can’t make it! My guess, Worst Ham away.

I told you Macey was a bit dodgy

No better time to play the Franchise, their confidence must be wobbling.

As for Payne, 3 assists and a goal after 2 games, has any player ever managed to get player of the season wrapped up by the end of August?

I have to confess I'm finding the Sky Sports+ vs iFollow thing a tad confusing - but I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that iFollow can't do a live stream for games, even to non-UK residents) if Sky Sports+ are streaming as a live pay-per-view game - which is the case for all the Carabao Cup fixtures. Doesn't explain the lack of audio, because as you say it was definitely an option on the iFollow portal last night.

According to the EFL blurb, live video of ALL L1 and L2 games should be available on iFollow to international viewers irrespective of whether Sky are covering them. I watched the game on Saturday live and I think that was on Sky?. (For the Championship, there are exceptions if Sky are broadcasting to an international audience, even then, it depends where you are in the world).

There appears to be conflicting information on the EFL Cup, but there was no live video last night, so I guess that's the norm. As you say, the Audio was an option, except I tried repeatedly to listen in without any success.

Last season the live videos were reasonably professional, but on Saturday you could hear Neil Kelly and David Gregory jabbering away when they obviously thought no one was listening. Sadly, no gossip to report!

The whole thing is a bit amateurish at the moment, hopefully they will get it sorted, because when it works, it's fantastic to be able to sit anywhere in the world (except UK!) and watch your team live every week.

Also, short of giving people like me a banning order, it's an effective way of saving the planet by stopping people flying home for a fix of their club.

Ifollow was not mentioned as an option on any of the match previews on the cufc website, which did mention programmes being available at the club shop.
Bradley needs to play, accept he will be roughed up, and accept it. At times he spent more time talking to the linesman than watching the ball
Great game and great result though.

I have been able to watch the Wimbledon and Reading games on Sky Sports +

On Saturday the game "froze" for about 2 minutes second half but apart from that the picture was ok. Last night was much better picture quality wise.

The commentary is poor though but I'm not complaining if I can watch more than 20 games through Sky this season.

I still have about 14 Away games scheduled to attend as well so it's Saul Goodman!

Once we learn how to stop conceding when we go 2-0 up then the top seven is nailed on.

I am having issues with iFollow here in NZ!

I subscribe to the 'Video Season Pass' knowing full well that I won't be getting up in the middle of the morning to watch the 3pm Sat games live. However, I can normally watch the full match replay within 24hrs of the match.

So far though I haven't been able to watch either of the Wimbledon or Reading matches and have had to find out the score by watching the Extended Highlights instead! - which I have found out that I can just watch on YouTube for free instead

I have emailed iFollow and they have sent a generic auto-response back to which I have replied to a couple of times without reply.

The iFollow FAQs mention that "Full match replays will be made available at the discretion of the club" and so I have contacted Col U and have yet to have a response.

Feeling robbed at the moment - maybe if the MK match is not on Sky Sports + then iFollow service will resume as normal?!?

Sorry to hear this ghughes.

According to iFollow - overseas subscribers can watch live games that are not also being shown by Sky or other Overseas partners.

The MK Dons game is not on Sky Sports+ so your subscription should ensure that you can watch the game live.

Sky Sports+ will show over 20 Col U games live this season. Of course if we continue to progress in the Carabao Cup then we will be shown in those games too.

The majority of our games will be streamed through this service, but where we are selected as the main League Two game we will be shown live on Channel 412 rather than just one of the streamed games.

Overall Sky are paying for 1000 EFL games over the course of the season. This doesn't of course include the Premier League games which are around 200 in number with Sky, TNT and Amazon showing varying totals.

Good luck this weekend with the Dons game.

All the U's league matches should be available live to overseas subscribers with a video pass, irrespective of whether it's being shown by Sky in the UK. Last season all the matches were available in full on the old ifollow app a day or two after the match. Hopefully that will still happen.

this is the issue MarkyMark47 - there is no new app and the full match replays have not been uploaded.

Noah - I know this is how you used to catch up with the Col U matches that you couldn't attend - are you able to watch the Wimbledon or Reading matches yet?

I had a reply from D.Gregory from the media team yesterday. He mentioned that he thought everything with iFollow was working as normal for overseas subscribers and has contacted the iFollow team.

If you press the app button on the club website you get a message saying "The official club app is coming soon!". It's been there for weeks and is generic - if you look at eg. Wrexham website it's exactly the same message. I contacted the ifollow help email about 4 weeks ago and they said there is a new provider for the efl live streams and that the Club will contact customers when the new app is available. It's a bit frustrating but I was able to live stream the Wimbledon match without any problems. I agree that the full match replay should be made available.

One thing I noticed when live streaming the Wimbledon game was that you couldn't (or at least I couldn't find a way), to replay a piece of the action and then return to the live stream.

For example, the end of last season, I was able to watch Noah's goal several times and then jump back to live feed, by using the slider bar and the bottom of the screen, but that didn't appear during the Wimbledon game, or as least if it did, I couldn't find it.

Even with the backward steps, I'm still very grateful that I can watch the league games live. The one hour difference is obviously not an issue for me, but it's sad for those further away if they're not getting good service.

iFollow was very frustrating yesterday, once again I couldn't access the live feed, until about 5-10 mins into the game I worked out that if I went in via Edge instead of Chrome it worked.

Then during the whole game, the commentary was about 2 seconds behind the picture, which made the whole experience quite irritable. As mentioned previously, unlike last year, there's no option to replay during the live feed.

The U's have got their act together, just need iFollow to follow them!

I typically can’t attend the first five and last two fixtures of the season due to the overlap with cricket. Hence, I purchase an I-Follow subscription to catch up with a full replay next day.

To date, I have not been able to watch any full replays, and now realise that I must locally record Sky+ broadcasts. However, as match selection is locally done via the Sky hand controller, I’ve not found out how to set up the recording in advance, and it’s really frustrating. There also seem to be no “Catch Up” function on Sky (or I-Follow). Very frustrating!

That commentary lag was exactly the same for the Reading game on Sky Sports+, so it must be down to the equipment being used, assuming both ifollow and Sky use the same feed?

Coordinating video and audio on a live stream can be surprisingly difficult. When I live stream Colchester cricket with audio I have to programme in a 3 second audio delay into the software because the audio arrives before the video. Hearing the thwack of the ball too early is really annoying.

This is because in my set-up the video stream arrives over wireless technology (from camera on a distant sight screen) and the audio by cable from a nearer directional microphone. Much of the timing challenge is dependent upon local conditions, local technology and the kit employed. There isn’t an easy fix unless one employs seriously expensive equipment. It might take a few broadcasts before they get the balance perfect.

However, this is a good opportunity for me to apologise to those that regularly follow my live stream for the recent lack of audio. What has happened is that Upminster CC’s live streaming system picked up some disgusting racist comments. The league (rightly) took action and imposed penalties, and some other clubs are now fearful that our microphones are so sensitive a repetition is inevitable, not necessarily racist, but perhaps other comments that are best not broadcast. Some clubs will now only consent to games being live streamed if audio is off.

My personal view is that this is a backward step that allows the bigots and ill-disciplined impunity. Surely the threat of such comments being potentially broadcast is THE best deterrent? In the six years I have been live streaming from Castle Park we have had zero problems, although occasionally foul language is overheard. For the remainder of the season, my broadcasts hence might have zero audio whilst we discuss this at a higher league level. Sorry, but it’s always a minority that spoil good things for the majority.

Not able to watch the full replay of the MK match

Reply received from iFollow:

"Thanks for getting in touch an sorry for the delay.

Full match replays could be made available but this at the discretion of the club, at this time we are not aware if or when they will make them available. Your subscription still provides you access to all Live streams, highlights and custom club content for the entire 2024-2025 season. There are ongoing discussions with EFL stakeholders surrounding this and we hope to have a resolution soon.

We apologise for any inconvenience or confusion this causes and we appreciate your patience."

I have forwarded this on the to Col U media team to see if they can help with uploading the full match replays to the Col U website as soon as possible.

Would be typical that this is the season I miss out on after the last 5!
