I like a good, weird bonkers film but The Greasy Strangler was not much cop and boring. Didn't do it for me.

Ive never had the balls to watch Man Bites Dog. I know the story and i know its meant to be good but like Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer its a step too far for me.

A film i haven't seen in years but really enjoyed was Electra Glide in Blue. A cop film from the early seventies. Alan Ladd as a short arse motorcycle copper dealing with all sorts of oddballs. Good soundtrack too from memory.

Used to be on BBC2/Channel 4 a lot, when they showed films like that.

Dead Man's Shoes. Paddy Considine is immense.

I like Shane Meadows and I like Paddy Considine, but I just don't get the love for that film. I find it bang average. Meadows' semi-autobiographical programme, The Virtues was one of the best bits of telly, I've seen in a long, long time. Very uncomfortable watch and Stephen Graham is amazing in it. .

Fulham FC: It's the taking part that counts

Ha, maybe i just love that scene so much! 'It's beyond fcking words.'

I've not watched through for a while but I really liked its grittiness and the feel of being in a dead-end East Midlands town, the actors he uses adds to the realism too.

Will have to catch The Virtues, cheers.

It's definitely a cult favourite for a lot a people who love it, so you're not alone. I just thought it was alright, and no more. Got a lot of time for Shane Meadows, as a bloke and film maker, though.

Southern Comfort was overshadowed by Deliverance.

No Doubt mate, However, 'Southern Comfort' compared to 'Deliverence' imo is like Comparing Nicolas Roegs 'performance' to Guy Ritchies ' Lock stock & two smoking Barrels'

I believe Walter Hill who directed 'The Warriors' Also Directed 'Southern Comfort'

Power Booth jacking up the tension in this scene set to number 11. Amazing Cajun Music as well.

A shout also for ' THX 1138' , 1971.

I've always loved The Tenant - directed by Roman Polanski.
Putting to side the fact that the guy is absolutely morally repugnant, it's a very dark, haunting film that genuinely scared the fck out of me.
Actually more disturbing than Repulsion for me.

'Virtues' kills me. Incredible television.

The scene where Graham leaves Dinner with his ex wife, new husband and son with the news that they are starting a new life in Canada, and ending up in that back street boozer knowing that second pint at his lips will lead to complete and utter destruction , lays me to waste.

Soul slaying script, soul slaying acting.

wish i could find that scene on you tube.

'Hyena' 2014, featuring Matt Johnsons The The Soundtrack blew me to the four corners.
Brutal as a Knuckle. I watch it every month.

the same cast and crew made 'Tony, serial killer'

Big brain fart there, I went to search for a picture from Videodrome to post , saw that Strange Days pic and went ahead without changing my post. I have watched Strange Days about 4-5 times, a brilliant film. Her Hurt Locker is also another fave of mine.

lThat trailer is giving me serious flashbacks of the Central Line one Friday evening late 70s on my way to the Dave Clement testimonial and getting jumped on by a load of Man U Cockney Reds. Myy Nagap!

Two films about the European encounter with the New World and the breakdown of Christianity in the face of native beliefs:

Bruce Beresford's Black Robe (1991) is about the French and the Algonquins:

Luis Alberto Lamata's 'Jericó' (1991) is about a priest who is the lone survivor of a conquistador expedition and is taken in by a tribe. At one point they take him to a cave and blow his mind with cocaine:

A little known Finnish war film that is brilliant.

Or how the Finns made the Russki's give up for a second time.

I've not seen that but have you seen this similar one? I haven't watched the whole of it but the excerpts I have seen so far are superb. I didn't realise someone had posted the full film.

No I haven't.

Thanks. I'll give it a watch before I go back to work.

For a minute I thought it was an adaptation of Guy Sajer then I saw the Finnish and then looked at my bookshelf

I'm liking the comments 'one of the most underrated war movie in movies history'.

I don't love the latter like the former but Videodrome and Strange Days are a pretty perfect accidental couple in several ways, to be fair.

Very good with a hard hitting ending.
