Thanks NorthernR. So a big part of your 18 hour day yesterday was spent discussing the set up for defending corners, right...?

Very interesting - and he was maybe a little sensitive I thought on listening to it? I agree with him on the stick players get but if you concede a lot of goals you are going to get that?

I dont think the Bright situation is going to be a happy ending- possibly for him or us.

I didn't under stand the bit about contracts and not playing them with a year left and then saying he wasn't referring to BOS/Manning

They both only have a year left or am I missing something here

I also get the impression he doesn't have a lot of time for supporters because "we've never played the game "

I think some of the stuff Lumley has had to put up with in particular has surprised a lot of people at the club and really angered him. Waaaaaaaaaay beyond simply criticising a goalkeeper for making mistakes.

agreed on Lumley - absolutely - I always think with players 'what if that was my son' but the reaction to a relatively throwaway comment about bonus payments/defending was a bit thin skinned. I wondered if he was getting at some legitimate things you have said in the past about Manning going missing as goals have been conceded. Alternatively part of firing up a squad up can be to react publicly to something like that to try and provoke a reaction internally...

I think it's fair to say he's read some stuff I've written previously and did not rate it very highly.

Tetchy mood there Mark! At least he's being honest about the issues we've got though, and I'd rather that than the bland empty answers a lot of managers give.

They are not the only ones in their last year, Deing and Lumley are in their last year, i think possibly Ball and Cameron as well

Same, and I said as much to him afterwards, when we were friends again

I thought the ‘no academy education’ comment on Dykes was quite telling.

Well he can't talk about specific players publicly, it's not fair. But I can ask about them, because if I didn't then you would justifiably want to know why. So he was trying his best to answer the question within those parameters. It's an odd dance, happens a lot in football interviews.

And we do have half a dozen out of contract next summer I think, not just those two.

He said previously that he wouldn't play people who had a year left and just running down the contract

BOS and Manning are the only 2 doing that i.e not signing a new one when offered

I like how brutally honest Warburton is, not afraid to give you an opinion, not afraid to tell you if he thinks a question is out of line, without making it personal (no doubt if it was Ferguson or someone giving you that telling off Clive you'd be subsequently banned from the club!)

At the same time, I like how you ask him those questions too Clive, two levels of honesty gives a very compelling read.

I hope we have another positive season and he is still here in twelve months time.

Very worried that he only expects one or two more through the door , the team imo is very lightweight in all areas , if Dykes gets injured or has a loss of form then we are fooked
That interview worries me a lot and seemed very negative ,
Also He keeps referring to the Bristol city game where we battered them ?Warbs and I must have been at different games because We didn’t create anything until the 80th minute and the team was booed off at half time

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Interesting to compare his tone and apparent mood to this time last year. Can understand him being upset with social media abuse of players but don't really see why he's conflating that with the sort of constructive criticism and (to me at least) balanced and fair questioning in this interview.

He is absolutely right about the futility and self defeating nature of abusing your own team's players for making mistakes though. Still find it baffling that anyone would do it when as well as being a cntish thing to do, it means QPR do less well. Of course its frustrating to see mistakes made but we could all, as a fan base, try and more positive.

Just listened to it now. When you mentioned the overdraft I winced😂😂 fair play for not making a meal about it. I’m more than capable of saying the same thing but would have then tied myself in knots ham fistedly apologising.

One take from a great interview was that he could afford to be a little less adversarial. It’s reasonable to raise the defence when the set up for set pieces is consistently poor. Plus I get he wants to protect players, but spitting the dummy out over the word mixed was off. Mixed is about as polite a way a journo could describe our goalies last year without descending in to Trump Fox News territory.

Still awesome interview and nice to have a manager who doesn’t retreat behind platitudes.

If not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled. PG Wodehouse

I think it was realistic on where we are as a club

We cant splash out on 3/4 forwards so if we get another in then that should be ok as we only play one up top anyway

Once we get the 2/3 in we will have nearly 2 in every position

I think I'd annoyed him by the 'mixed' point. He got riled up about people asking whether we defend set pieces in training, then I was a smartarsd little dick, then that. I can understand it, though yeh when the interviewee starts explaining how you could have phrased the question it's probably time to wrap things up.

I think he explained pretty well that he knows the team has problems and the squad is very light, and given the chance he'd love to bring six, seven, eight players in, but financially we cannot do it.

I vividly remember post the cup defeat to Sheff Weds people on twitter sharing screencaps of him smiling whilst shaking oppo players' hands at the end as proof of some kind of malevolent character fault

Can't listen til later but I assumed he'd be laughing to some small extent too - off the page it properly reads like a zing. Was it perhaps delivered in a These Are For You McNulty style?

He's certainly spiky, and I don't agree with all of his conclusions, but it's certainly better to have a man in charge with a frank point of view rather than "the boys are disappointed, we'll improve" saying anything to placate the fans like most managers
