How great an achievement was Swans 7 years in the top flight ? 10:13 - Aug 27 with 7784 viewstrampie

Without scouring record books, I just looked at 4 'smaller' teams that sprung to mind, so Swans did well but not absolutely brilliant.

Watford had 6 years in the top flight at one time and finished second in the league and reached the FA Cup final as well as numerous semi's and quarters in that timeframe.

Wigan had 8 years in the top flight in very recent times and won the FA Cup and made the final of the League Cup.

Bolton had 11 years in the top flight in recent times and made the League cup final.

Coventry went 34 years in the top flight and won the FA Cup.

Its all relative, Swans achievement was good but not great, all in all looking at catchment area, population, other pro clubs in the vicinity etc the Swans did well but not brilliant.

Yes and only 28 voted to keep things the same.

If you think the only 20 people who would take the deduction happened to vote on the poll then you are deluded.

Its an anonymous poll so if someone felt that way they could have voted for it if they wanted to do so. You can't say as per my poll many of our fans want us to fail. You have a poll that shows 20 people voted for that. Outside of that you don't know what people's actual reasons are for not voting in the poll. I for one didn't vote but would never want our club to fail.

20 out of 48 at last check, yes.

To think there would be a lot more than 20 is just as presumptuous as saying there would be more than 28 on the other side.

As it stands 40% of fans canvased would be happy to see the old guard lose money over the team prospering. It is an attitude we see on here almost weekly. This thread is synonymous of that attitude, unable to see our 7 years as utter success as they would have to attribute that to Jenkins - which of course is obviously the catalyst for the creation of this thread.

We are going to have to agree to disagree about numbers.

It's a poll on Planet Swans, what do you think he should've done, posted out forms to 20k?

Of course not, my points res was he said many of our fans want us to fail, I highlighted 20 people voted( should have been zero.) And my point about attendance is 20 people out of our entire fanbase is not many in scheme of things.

It isn’t 20 out of our whole fanbase, it was 20 out of 48.

It would be ridiculous to think the only 20 people who thought a certain way out of 20,000 fans happened to vote on the poll.

As I said, we are going to have to agree to disagree on that.

I’ve blocked E20 so no longer get the benefit of their lack of wit and wisdom.

However it seems that your sweeping statement is based on the poll responses of 20 people. You are better than that.

There was a poll on here previously on had the Americans improved the club, over 100 voted on it and 90 voted no, why didn't all 90 vote for the 6pts hit. The most likely reason is you can dislike the board but still love team and not want it to fail and if you dislike the board or as you put it on your poll the sellouts if given an option of vote for 6pts or an option that contains the wording of sellouts remaining rich people might have chose to select neither option. Doesn't mean they love the club any less.

Oh yeah, double European Champions, English Champions, UEFA Super Cup champions, twice FA Cup and four times League Cup winners Forest.

Forgot about them.

Easy mun.

They weren't a big club in my time, I remember Cardiff beating them in the second tier on match of the day and at that point they had never won the League title and not won the FA Cup since their one win in the 50's [their only previous win was in the 1800's], their last league title win they had at that point was the old second division back in the 1920's.

We'll have to disagree, I like to give the benefit of the doubt to people and see the good in them. I personally would go with some of our fans seek revenge over our success or at least 20 of our fans chose revenge as that is a fact. Saying 40% of people who actually clicked one of the options trying to make something sound worse than it potentially is.

Yes they were hardly a giant of the English game having very little success in their history up to that point, Cardiff themselves had also won a FA Cup that century and been runners up in the league that they would have won under the more modern points difference but still 2pts for a win system, so Cardiff could have been said to have been bigger than Forest at that time, lol.

Cardiff's win was very significant as Forest went on a long unbeaten league home run after that game that lasted a few seasons, people used to ask who was the last team to beat them at the City ground in the league ?, Cardiff got a few brownie points for that one and it was on match of the day, with very few televised matches being on match of the day that stood for something in those days.

Yep, rubbish achievement looking back.

Same with Man Utd and Liverpool, neither had won anything... before they did.

Absolutely no reason why we haven’t emulated their success, in fact probably a major failure we haven’t.

I’m now on board. Nice one Tramps.

The reason why Clough is lauded is because Derby and Forest were not seen as big clubs at the time, they had been no more successful than the famous Cardiff City until the 1970s.

What we achieved was magnificent.

We were a small team on the edge of the country with a falling down stadium and a history of nearly always playing in the lower leagues.

One match from non-league and a few quid short of bankruptcy.

Ten years later we were in the Prem as a blueprint for how a club should be run and playing a style of football that most others tried but failed to emulate and being admired world-wide.

I, for one, am very proud of that .

Now thanks to Huw and co and some greedy Yank , I'm thoroughly ashamed.

You obviously cant count, Forest had spent most of their history outside the top division prior to Clough.

Even counting Clough's era and coming right up to date Forest have still spent most of their history outside the top division.

You or I , or anyone other fan should not be ashamed, it those that has put the Club in this position should be ashamed.

Despite all thats coming out and despite the spin being put forward by some , the sale and all that is associated with it and how ,and why it was done is now coming to light, sad times for us all, and the club.
Shame on the others , this is just the beginning.....

Well said, and that's the spirit!

The performance against Leeds can be replicated not just once but repeatedly. We obviously have the capability - it's a matter of building confidence, belief and therefore momentum (along with some strengthening of course). Early days eh - this is a marathon not a sprint.

When Clough started his first full season in charge of Forest they were embarking on their 37th season outside the top flight, they had had only 36 seasons in the top flight.

In that time they had finished bottom of the entire football league but there was no 3rd Division to be relegated to and when there was a third Division they had spent a few seasons in it.

Coming up to date Forest have spent 60 seasons out of the top Division including at least 1 season bottom of the entire football league and 5 seasons in the 3rd tier and only 56 seasons in the top Division, so most of Nott'm Forests history has been spent outside the top Division, that is why they are not a big club particularly prior to Clough.
