Fernandes Craving Attention Again... 09:04 - Apr 8 with 12194 viewsBrianMcCarthy

Tweet at 1am:-

"The decision on my future has been made. 6 games 18 points. Never stop believing rangers fans. Les also a hero. Never stop believing."

Mustn't have been breastfed.

"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."

Dave, I don't expect we are going to agree on this. But when you say Fernandes 'involves the fans', scratch below the surface and ask yourself what does this really amount to. Inviting fans along to take part in the Ice Bucket challenge? Handing out a few free plane tickets? Getting his team to send out fan surveys about a new stadium which is at least a decade away?

And the communication? It is all one-way. Telling the world about his emotions, the abuse he has taken, and more and more excuses about why things have been so abject.

Yes the general level of communication between fans and the club has improved over the last three years. But it could hardly have been much worse than under Briatore / Paladini. And remember how the Official Supporters Club wound up and has not been reinstated.

It's really a very old argument that because the past owners are so bad that Fernandes must be good. As fans delve a little deeper beyond the spin and the myth more and more are seeing the Emperor's New Clothes that the last four seasons have amounted to.

Put what Fernandes has done and achieved under real scrutiny. It doesn't amount to a hill of beans. It does amount to a hill of debt and hot air.

Fans have been consulted on the family stand recently after they got that wrong from the start, we've had the stadium stuff and been asked on new kit designs and regular meetings now take place between fans and the club. Also a return of fans forums.

Communication Is not perfect by any means but it's an improvement on previous owners.

I'd agree his tenure hasn't exactly been a roaring success and I'm not hailing him as a great leader or anything, I just think his intentions have been good and they haven't worked out. I'm not convinced hounding him out is the answer and for all the praise that Amit gets he's been at the club almost ten years now and what has he actually done in that time other than give Warnock money to spend and let him get on with it much like Fernandes did with Redknapp.

I think his main problem has been recruitment and trusting the wrong people. He came in and tried to put in place a sporting director looking after scouting and youth development and changed to a manager who was well respected for taking clubs our size and stabilising them in the division. Warnock was good for us in the championship and did ok in the prem but was all about the short term. On paper Rigg and Hughes were great choices, in reality they were both hopelessand for all the talk of planning etc the two of them left a legacy of feck all.

Since that failed he's been like most football owners in going with whatever was in fashion and sadly listened to what people on twitter tell him which lumbered us with Redknapp to start with. Now he's gone back to the original plan and you have to hope Ramsey and Ferdinand fare a lot better than Hughes and Rigg did.

Well we agree on your final point Dave. Tony's path to redemption lies in the likes of Les and Ramsey. Genuine football people who live and breathe the game.

We have got to accept that being a chairman is a full time occupation carried out by someone who understands football, players, agents...

Fernandes is hardly in the country so how is he expected to run a successful football club? He needs to swallow his pride and stand aside.

What's ridiculous about that tweet> He keeps getting asked if he is staying and plenty call on him to quit so he tries to put a stop to it by saying a decision has been made so basically shut up about it.

When he said nothing a few weeks back he was slated on here for not backing anyone and looking for a way out, people on here were going mad that he hadn't made a statement on FFP, now he says something positive and now he's an idiot for speaking again.

Of course the man is accountable and made mistakes, not as if no one has mentioned that, he gets plenty of stick but he's written off 60 million quid of money the club owes him and looks like he is at least trying to put in place things the fans are asking him to do.

Dave you are talking so much sense. I cannot believe the flak Tony gets. Some fans seem to have forgotten that neither Fernandes nor any other millionaires/billionaires, whether they are life long Rs fans or not, are *obliged* to invest their time and money in our club. We have no divine right to them.

Yes, Tony has made mistakes but so would anyone. He appears to be learning from them.

Yes, he craves attention and some of his tweets are silly but what do you expect him to do, invest shedloads of his own time and money but then never discuss his investment publically? I expect he gets a buzz from being involved with a football club, why totally begrudge him that? I would, however, suggest that he re-reads his tweets before sending them. Always wise: pause, take a breath, review, before letting your thoughts loose in cyberspace where you have no control over them.

I too am concerned about the debts (mostly to shareholders, not banks, mind) we have racked up under Tony and yes, we do need to move to a sustainable model quickly, but let's be clear, it takes a lot of working capital to keep a football club afloat and we would be sunk without our investors.

This might upset some people but twitter is for kids. Feel sorry for TF but as most know it's a rod for his own back. Either grow up and act like an adult or employ some sensible grown up to filter all the negative crap and planning dreams until something is finalised. Might be my age but have no understanding of why people feel the need to let the world know what you're thinking or doing unless you're stuck in the bog without toilet paper

Twitter is one of the best search engines going. Want to know all the QPR news? Type #qpr into the search field and watch it all appear. Rumours, articles, official stuff....

No one is calling for him to sell up(good luck with that Tony). The facts show that he doesn't know how to run a football club. Facts such as running up debts of £250m, no stadium, no training ground, a relegation with another pending, FFP. We are asking him to stand aside and allow someone else run the club, someone who understands what it takes to run a successful football club.

I wish people would understand the difference between standing aside and selling up. Also whilst we're at it, there's also a difference between an owner and a shareholder.

Damn you've exposed me as a non QPR fan, I thought I was getting away with it going to games every week, running a website for years, writing in a fanzine and basically living and breathing the club since the early 80's but I have to confess I did it all for a laugh just to annoy people and really I've always hated QPR and this has all been part of my plan to bring about the clubs downfall. I had a feeling someone was watching me from inside my bin this morning whilst I wore my I hate QPR t shirt, i should have been more careful

every premier league club is a marketing tool, you don't think Spurs are going to the far east next month for team bonding do you?

Other clubs only market themselves. We market the owner's budget airline.

Even the porn magnets at West Ham saw Tony Tone coming a mile off. They were sensible enough to recognise that they lacked the experience to run a football club so they brought Brady in.

I for one have no problem with TF communicating his thoughts, feelings and emotions on Twitter; Imo it is much more preferable than the vast majority of owners who never communicate with the fans at all. I myself have been very critical of some of the things that he has done, sometimes directly on Twitter. I do think though that some of the personal abuse he has received from Qpr fans has been unnecessary and out of order given that he has very recently been dealing directly with hundreds of bereaved relatives of the plane disaster. This would take a toll on any human being and he really doesn't need petty abuse from us.
Right now we all need to come together and get behind the team. This is not being happy clappy it is reality; the team are fighting for each other at the moment and we need to do the same. Let's leave the blame game and sniping til later.

While I'm obviously concerned about the debt we have, I've generally quite enjoyed the time under Tony Fernandes' stewardship. A last day survival and play off promotion being obvious highlights, the relegation season was pretty rough going.

But even though a lot of this season has been equally tough, Tony Fernandes has announced a change of tact - utilising young players, he's brought in Les Ferdinand, who in turn brought in Chris Ramsey. Ramsey has handled the manager's job with dignity and in the few months he's been in charge, he has given youth team players chances in the first team, and got us results we had no chance of getting under Redknapp.

I'd quite like Tony to stick around, and hopefully see him get the chance to soak up the credit for a young, hungry team, a manager promoted from within, a director of football with the club in his heart and the books being balanced after a few false starts.

You're missing the point. Just because Tony has a share doesn't mean he has to fill the role of chairman. The club can hire someone more equipped to do the job and leave Tony to concentrate on his airline.

I agree thats something we should do but I'm not sure the man/woman with a football background, understanding of how it all works, the vision to take us forward and the passion for QPR exists.
