Letter in tomorrow's Obby on 11:19 - Jun 14 by mingthemerciless | Whatever the rights and wrongs of the original letter the fact remains that having to play all away games for the best part of two months slap bang in the middle of the season is more or less guaranteed to make actually winning anything almost impossible. |
Don't they have the reverse/ home games to play at the end of the season from these away games they have to play? If so then they could turn it to their advantage, and did they not get promoted under this arrangement?

If they are good enough it shouldn't matter if they are home or away - the crowds are so poor its not like Spotland is an intimidating cauldron of noise giving them any sort of advantage is it?

Usually the damage is done before you can get to that run of home games at the end of the season. When Hornets got promoted it was through the skin of their teeth. They came from behind in the league table because of the play off system in Rugby League. That's not mention the financial effect it has on the club with no gate money for a long period. Also people find other things to do on a Sunday when there's no game. It becomes hard to re- attract them after the break.

During the 6 week period that Spotland is not available why don't Hornets hold 2/3 home games at Mayfield or another venue?

Hornets seem to be doing alright even with this run of away games. Another win today, 3rd and a win off top spot playing top placed Keighley next week. Good luck to em I say.

Letter in tomorrow's Obby on 12:11 - Jun 14 by mingthemerciless | For years I used to follow both teams, Dale on Saturday and Hornets on Sunday. Because of that sort of attitude I now only follow one team. |
Which one? Don't similar negative attitudes exist amongst the support of both clubs? Not sure what the issue is here because, as D_Alien mentions, this pitch work has gone on for a long time. When was the last time there wasn't a gap in Hornets' fixtures because of it?

Yeah, but then you've got to find winning pay for the seventeen players with no income through the turnstiles. It's a lose, lose situation. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Good post. The letter in the Observer displayed a particularly negative and blinkered attitude.

So as tenants, what have they done about it after many years of dealing with the situation?

But according to Hornets followers on here, playing away means there won't be any (or as many) wins. And surely if they have to play away for a month or so in May and June, they will have a bulk of home fixtures later in the season. Sensible budgeting and contract details will mean any bonuses can be back-dated once the turnstile income starts being generated again.

Give it a rest ming. Hornets board, it's members, Tol and the coaching staff and the players all know what to expect mid summer. It's perhaps not ideal, but it is what it is and has been for umpteen seasons now. The Hornets' board are more than capable of managing cash flow and players terms and it's upto Tol' and the coaching staff make sure the players are up to the job. Believe it or not a mid season hiatus in home games is not the biggest problem Hornets have ever had to face.

You seem to be inferring that there's something wrong with attending high profile Rugby League events. Do ' Dale fans not go to The cup final ,when they can get a ticket , or Internationals. ?Maybe I'm missing something.

Yes. Vespa's comment was in response to the posts about gate money. You're talking about Dale fans spending their own money.

Oh, so he's saying the gate money is being spent on a trip to the magic weekend then ? I'd be very interested to see what evidence he's got to back up that inference.

You need to take that up with Vespa, but it's a bit like what evidence does Mr Mallinson have for inferring Dale are taking back-handers over the pitch work.

Great tactical insight there Tazzy. Some people, especially evil Tories might like 'egg chasing' and/or American Football. Did Jake Livermore not recently get done for failing a drugs test? Also what happened to Jose Baxter?

Why sport does not allow their fans to drink in the stadia? I've bought beer in football, rugby and NFL stadia (legally). Is this some more propaganda you are putting out there?
