Ipswich U21 3 v 2 Swansea U21 10:43 - Dec 4 with 377 viewstheloneranger

"Anthony Wright says Swansea City Under-21s' first-half performance cost them as they suffered a 3-2 defeat against Ipswich Town away from home.

All three of Ipswich's goals came in the opening 15 minutes of the first half thanks to Ayyuba Jambang, Tudor Mendel-Idowu and Tom Taylor.

The Swans had two goals back in the second period through Sebastian Dabrowski and Morgan Bates, and had chances to nick a point but the Tractor Boys held on.

"We're very disappointed today with the first-half of football that we have produced. We conceded three poor goals which we cannot accept at this level of football," said Wright.

"Off the ball in the first half we were not good enough during the transition periods and allowed Ipswich to counter attack us far too easily. Players not doing the non negotiable running well enough getting up to the ball and winning individual duels.

"On the ball we were not us first-half, we didn’t show enough character to take the ball under pressure instead we chose to go long, which showed we weren't brave enough today to find solutions against a man for man press.

"In the second half, we were better at the non negotiable and this gives us a platform to get momentum in the game. We scored two goals second half and had enough opportunities to get the third however it wasn’t to be.

"As coaches we are disappointed the team are giving teams a head start before we get going, today this has cost us. And something we really need to address as a team going forward. But once again it’s a game of many learning points for the group and one we will certainly learn from.

"It was great to see Kyrell [Wilson] having more minutes today, we limited him to 30 and when he came on he was a constant threat for the team, he is getting closer to full fitness and we are all excited what this can bring for him personally and the team. First year scholar Ben Phillips, who made his debut today at half time did very well."

Quite scathing comments actually. The return of the "non negotiables". Lack of defensive application and running. Sounds as if the team was undone by a high press early in the game.
