As a teenager I was in college with Geoff. AKA "Gaffa" - AKA "The Ripper." When we were in college, he was also on the books down the Vetch. Rugby's gain, was football's loss. With Wales - Geoff won three Six Nations titles, including two Grand Slams, a hat-trick of Triple Crowns, and the record of 15 games unbeaten in a Welsh jersey. RIP Geoff - one of life's gents. - A monster on the pitch - A Gentle Giant off it!! đ„ |

"Anthony Wright says Swansea City Under-21s' first-half performance cost them as they suffered a 3-2 defeat against Ipswich Town away from home. All three of Ipswich's goals came in the opening 15 minutes of the first half thanks to Ayyuba Jambang, Tudor Mendel-Idowu and Tom Taylor. The Swans had two goals back in the second period through Sebastian Dabrowski and Morgan Bates, and had chances to nick a point but the Tractor Boys held on. "We're very disappointed today with the first-half of football that we have produced. We conceded three poor goals which we cannot accept at this level of football," said Wright. "Off the ball in the first half we were not good enough during the transition periods and allowed Ipswich to counter attack us far too easily. Players not doing the non negotiable running well enough getting up to the ball and winning individual duels. "On the ball we were not us first-half, we didnât show enough character to take the ball under pressure instead we chose to go long, which showed we weren't brave enough today to find solutions against a man for man press. "In the second half, we were better at the non negotiable and this gives us a platform to get momentum in the game. We scored two goals second half and had enough opportunities to get the third however it wasnât to be. "As coaches we are disappointed the team are giving teams a head start before we get going, today this has cost us. And something we really need to address as a team going forward. But once again itâs a game of many learning points for the group and one we will certainly learn from. "It was great to see Kyrell [Wilson] having more minutes today, we limited him to 30 and when he came on he was a constant threat for the team, he is getting closer to full fitness and we are all excited what this can bring for him personally and the team. First year scholar Ben Phillips, who made his debut today at half time did very well." https://www.swanseacity.com/news/anthony-wright-first-half-performance-cost-us |

"Swansea City Under-18s' striker Morgan Bates was 'over the moon' after netting his first Swansea City hat-trick in their 6-2 victory over Colchester United. The Swans were 2-1 up at the break thanks to fine finishes from Aidan Higgins and Bates, while a quick counter from the U's allowed Raashad Drysdale to halve the deficit. The goals continued to come thick and fast in the second half, Milo Robinson netted his first goal of the season on the hour mark, with Bates getting his second minutes later. Eighteen-year-old Bates then grabbed a third and completed his hat-trick to make it 5-1, meaning the former Briton Ferry man has racked up over 10 goals for all age groups so far this season. Kai Martin pulled a goal back from the spot for the visitors, but substitute Callum Jones rounded off the scoring for the Swans. "It feels great to have finally got a hat-trick to my name. I'm over the moon and, even more importantly, it has helped the boys get the win," said Bates. "It was a big confidence boost to not only score three in one game, but to get a win under our belts is great because we've had a tough run, especially after not progressing through in the PDL Cup. "The boys scored some great goals as well, and credit to them for always providing for me in the box." Bates has also featured for the club's under-21s this season, and had relished the opportunity to feature alongisde his brother and captain, Mitchell. "It's a nice feeling to have just joined, and instantly get some game time with the under-21s, and to top that off with my first goal against Brentford," he added. "It's weird seeing my brother on the pitch, I think it was one of the first times we've really played together. But we just get on with the game, but we definitely look out for each other." https://www.swanseacity.com/news/morgan-bates-delighted-first-swansea-city-hat-t |

"Three second-half goals from Swansea City Under-21s salvaged a point against their Brentford counterparts in their Professional Development League clash on Monday Evening. Former Swan Iwan Morgan made no mistake to open the scoring within the first two minutes of the game with a top-corner strike, then the Bees doubled their advantage just before the break thanks to Kyreece Lisbie. The Swans came out fighting in the second period with two quick-fire goals from Morgan Bates - his first at under-21 level - and Sammy Henia-Kamau. Brentford regained the lead through substitute Caelan Avenall beyond the hour mark, but Swansea fought back and clinched a third goal with a wonderful strike from Ben Lloyd. Aimar Govea and Glory Nzingo missed out due to representing Ecuador and the Republic of Ireland respectively this international break. Meanwhile, Morgan Bates made his first start for the upper age-group alongside his brother, Mitchell Bates. The visitors had an early chance within the first few minutes. The move, started by Morgan, found Ashley Hay from close-range but volleyed his shot well over. But the breakthrough came less than 30 seconds later when Morgan lofted the ball from outside of the box over Ben Hughes in the Swansea goal. Brentford had the better of the game afterwards, Richard Faakye and Iestyn Jones both making crucial clearances to prevent a second goal. Morgan almost had his second of the evening after chipping a volley wide after a scramble of headers in the box fell to the Welshmanâs feet. Swansea started to press forward, and a nice team play from Faakye, Zac Jeanes and Morgan Bates looked to create a clear-cut chance, but the referee raised the offside flag. The Bees continued to threaten through Morgan, forcing Jeanes to block his powerful shot well from six yards before Hughes made an impressive one-handed save to deny Morgan yet again. Henia-Kamau went close to getting an equaliser, weaving his way through the visiting defence only for the Bees' keeper Reggie Rose to come out and collect. Straight down the other end before the break, the visitors doubled their lead through Lisbie after a fast-paced team move was finished off into the bottom corner. The opening stages were even with both sides exchanging chances. But the Swans showed spirit to react with two quick-fire goals to level. And it was Morgan Bates with his first goal for the under-21s on his first start, the 18-year-old, pick out by Jeanes, made two smooth touches before smashing the ball into the back of the net. Henia-Kamau grabbed the Swans' second moments later with a tap-in from inside the six-yard box. But the scoreline was not level for long as substitute Avenall made an immediate impact from the bench to net Brentfordâs third from close range. Kyrell Wilson also looked to grab a goal from off the bench when Morgan Batesâ cross fell into the path of Wilson, but it was sent over the bar. Wilson caused trouble for the visitors again after a mazy run down the middle, but his final touch was deflected out for a corner, which came to nothing. In the closing stages, Faakye won a free-kick in a dangerous position. Substitute Josh Pescatore - who's scored two from two set pieces this campaign - took it short to Lloyd and the Welshman smashes it home to level the proceedings once again and salvage a point for his side." Swansea City Under-21s: Ben Hughes, Arthur Parker, Sebastian Dabrowski, Jacob Cook (Josh Pescatore 75), Richard Faakye, Iestyn Jones, Zac Jeanes (Kyrell Wilson 65), Mitchell Bates (captain), Sammy Henia-Kamau, Morgan Bates, Ben Lloyd. Substitutes: Evan Watts, Callum Deacon, Brogan Popham. https://www.swanseacity.com/news/report-swansea-city-u21s-3-brentford-u21s-3 |

"Passing sentence, Mr Justice Johnson said the activist has not shown any remorse and has been found to be committed contempt of court on three previous occasions, adding that he âregards himself as above the lawâ. âThe breaches were not accidental or negligent or merely reckless,â he said. âEach breach of the injunction was a considered and planned and deliberate and direct and flagrant breach of the courtâs order.â "He continued: âNobody is above the law.
