Mumbles tram. A long term no brainer? 12:49 - Jun 9 with 2318 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Some talk recently of regeneration of the sea front with St Helens. The Mumbles tram is a far better idea and should come first. Whatever the problems I am sure they can be sorted. Last discussed 10 years ago. £50m- £100m or so probably. http://www.britishtramsonline.co.uk/news/?p=4556

Mumbles tram. A long term no brainer? on 01:00 - Jun 11 by ReslovenSwan1 | When London spent £20 billion on the Olympics and West Ham were treated like a charity and handed over the stadium for peanuts no one complained. ( no one said this waste was "too expensive") The 20 billion Cross rail was built and completed. (no one said it was "too expensive") HS2 will stop at Birmingham as Middle Englanders demanded shallow tunnels through flat boring arable land. (every one said it was " too expensive") There was no HS2 - HS1 link to allow Northerners to get a sleeper from Leeds to Paris or Brussels.. ("Too expensive" and blocked by London Luvvie nimbys) Northerners never complained as they read London based press and media. Northerns like some Swansea people "know their place". It was not "too expensive" but it was "too expensive for us". There are 11 tram light rail lines in UK none in Wales. The Swansea one would probably be the shortest. It is not "too expensive" it is " too expensive for us" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_modern_tramway_and_light_rail_systems_in_t |
London, the capital city, the same rule as Cardiff applies. It gets more than other regions. Crossrail...again it's London so see above. HS2, the complaints there were about value for money more than cost nt forgetting that people had their homes compulsorily purchased for less than their true value, green fields were dug up and we in Wales had to oay for a share of something that everybody but the tories could see had no benefit for us. Northeners complained about value for money and want money spent on their region but not on the train service that is designed to benefit London, major chunks of HS2 have been abandoned. HS2 hs become far too expensive which is why Sunak cut the plans down (not because Northeners moaned) but still Wales gets nothing even though the part they said benefitted Wales hasn't gone ahead. 11 trams...relevence? Thing is, you moan about 10-15 million for St helens then you spout off about something that would cost over 30 times as much to build and would take years to deliver with no guarantee of success. It is arguable whether it is needed or not and if it is, where does the council get funding from because they are hardly rolling in money.

Which he does a lot, John. Here's a new debate for us, John. Why are apples and oranges differnt and why can't we compare them?

Must have something to do with the trust and at what cost to Swansea rate payers.

If only the Trust had sold their shares for £20M - they could have paid for the redevelopment of St Helens as an investment. 🤔😂

I think you perhaps post as a ironic joke judging by the icons but in fact it is true. Bayern Munchen is fan owned and that is what they are doing. The fans are smart. SCST do not understand inflation or their investment options. They invested a few thousand for a gate but i am not even certain of that. Swansea fans support things that are bad for the club and cannot even see it.

Why is 11 relevant? You tell me it is way too expensive but 11 other cities have much longer and more challenging routes all paid for. Blackpool even has one but that is because they kept the original one. Northerners would have benefitted from a fast rail route to London. If they had any sense they would have lobbied for a direct link to France and Belgium via the HS2 -HS1 link. They did not want good links to France and Belgium (including freight) and voted for Brexit in big numbers. Apparently HS2 is no use to them, on the other hand the Senedd is abused for not improving links to London by building the relief road in the Newport area. I miss the logic. Osprey's business plan must include increased revenue from bigger crowds. Good rugby attracts crowds not stadiums. The idea that they will play markedly better in a smaller stadium is laughable. An improved atmosphere is likely to to see an improved Munster and Leinster as well.

Did those other places still have tram routes or was theirs taken away and built over? The costs are much more than you"assumed" and probably much more than the last figures were given to be. Swansea can hardly afford it's social care and bin collections, you think 10-15 million for St Helens is too much, where do they find 400 million? How much would it cost to borrow and how long to pay back? Then the big question, would it even be viable? HS2 would have cost over 150 billion and taken 30 minutes off travel time, a massive waste of resources as well as the destrution of green field sites. Why have a train link when they have plenty of good airports that are cheaper than trains? The M4 relief wasn't about a link to London, ot was about the ability for business to get further into wales more quickly, not be held up for hours at Brynglas tunnels. You're just being obtuse now. I don't know what the Ospreys business plan is but I would say increasing revenue was certainly a hope. The last bit just shows how clueless you are about sport, it's quite dismal watching games in stadia that are a quarter full with no atmosphere at all. It must be quite dispiriting playing in a library too.
