The earth used in the banking terraces at Craven Cottage came from the excavation of Shepherds Bush Station.

Not a lot of people know that.

Hawaii is the only US state to have a foreign nations flag incorporated into its State flag.
It's the Union Jack, in recognition of Hawaiis historical relationship with The Royal Navy and the UK and has been its flag since the early 1800s, when Hawaii was an independent nation.

Not many people outside of the US know that.

Not many people inside the US probably know it either!

Talking of flags, Cyprus is the only country flag that incorporates an image of the country.

Aircraft flying to the East (track 0°-179°) always fly at an odd altitude (e.g. 37,000 feet). Aircraft flying to the West (track 180°-359°) fly an even level.

Good job really.

The 9th Vice President of the United States, Richard Mentor Johnson (in office 1837-41), took a nine month sabbatical to open and run a pub/hotel on his farm, to try to make good losses he incurred in the Financial Panic of 1837.

The words for animals like cow, pig, deer, etc. are from the Old English, whilst the words for the meat like bacon, ham, and venison are from the French. This is due to the influence of the Normans after 1066. The French nobility introduced the words for the meat, but the English farmers maintained their language for the animals.

Possibly a lot of people know that.

I heard it was from the agnostic, dyslexic, insomniac who used to lie awake at night wondering if there really is a dog.

I discovered the other day in the Science Museum that The first 'Super computer' the CDC 6600 which could process one million calculations per second in 1968 was built in the shape of a cross, with rooms/equipment leading off from the middle bit which was called the cental processing unit or CPU.

Not a lot of people know that.

So dull it caused me to suffer a small stroke. :)

Michael Caine never actually said “not a lot of people know that”.

Peter Sellers once did an impression of him and said “not many people know that”.

Not a lot of people know that.

The word cûnt derives from the celery pickers of West Brompton in the early 19th century.

I hate to be a pedant, again, but this is absolute nonsense!

Cnt is an ancient word whose meaning has changed as little as its sound. Cnt derives from the old English c*nte, and that from the proto-Germanic word k*nto (same meaning), and that probably deriving from the proto-Indo-European root gʷḗn, meaning, essentially, female. Unsurprisingly, it is a truly ancient word.

PS - Shakespeare was very found of the word cnt, and from at least the 12th century onwards, Gropecnt Lane was a fairly common name for streets where ladies of the night (or day, I guess) were to be found.

Edit: Jeez, I've just re-read this. Whatta know-all. It was actually quite a good joke. Sorry about that.

A mushroom is more closely related to a human than a plant. Fungi and humans share a common ancestor from around 1.5 billion years ago.
