Just looked at the Charlton board, it is like the reverse image of ours as the game progresses. However their site is woefully lacking in irony, which we have in abundance.
Don’t let a performance get in the way of a decent jest.

In short, I think that attack is currently our best form of defence.

We came out in the second half and it looked, to me, that the players had been instructed to really slow the game down and try to maintain possession. We sat deeper and deeper until the inevitable goals came. We aren’t good enough to do this and, in slowing the game down, we become really easy to play against. At 4-4 I don’t think we showed any desire to win the game until the red card.

I certainly think the tempo of our play has a bigger impact on our performances than anything else. I have no problem with possession based football but there needs to be intent alongside it as there was in the first half.

In game management could be key to us keeping our heads above the water and until we find the right balance we are going to keep being frustrated.

Also attack as the best form of defence is a lot more entertaining

In his post match interview BBM said the game plan was attack is the best form of defence due to the situation with defenders being unavailable.

I'm actually not sure what the subliminal "message" was here (and maybe there wasn't even one and Covid fever is making me see conspiracy theories which don't exist) but if this was in any way designed to support the contention that "passing it about at the back" (I used the polite version of passing with an a and not an i) then it is an own goal in my view.

The two goals came from quick, direct forward passes in both cases. Apart from the first where there was one back pass to the scorer, Lund, it involved 5 forward passes and the second three forward passes and a mazy run (I'm overlooking the pass-back to the keeper and the stuff in the box which preceded it). If ever there was an argument for attacking at pace and catching the opponent on the back foot versus a ponderous 40 pass stalemate attack this is it, but not sure if that was the point? If it was, I'll happily eat my words.

The flip side of this building from the back would be a Blair Witch home movie of opponents goals where we tried to build from the back, conceded possession and it ended in tears. There would have been more goals on that one too.

This version is an object lesson on how to build from the back and should be shown 5 minutes before every kick off as a reminder if it's needed?

I don’t think you’re being paranoid at all. I think it is a very definite and deliberate attempt to do exactly as you suspect.

Do they really think anyone has an issue with 'building from the back' if that is the outcome or at least a decent attempt at a goal. Building from the back yes. Faffing about at the back no.

Hahahahahaha.

That’s really rather amusing. Incredibly transparent and like has already been posted, the goals were examples of direct, progressive passing and, crucially, getting the ball wide for a player to take his man on.
