We have been on a downhill slope since these owners took over.
Each year has got worse.
They haven’t a clue. Until they go we will continue to struggle.
They do not connect with the football club or the fans in any way.
They are pathetic.

I am at the stage now he has too go, the rot is progressing , from owners , a few players and performances, even supporters.

Cant see new owners and our best chance is another manager, the only consistency we are showing now is losing, and starting too lose badly.

This seems to be the new narrative.

Firstly he was the “cheap” option - despite us having to pay compensation for him, and when people realise that isn’t true they say “well it’s their fault for appointing him” - despite thinking it was a good appointment at the time.

There is an insatiable need to blame them for something these days.

If someone shows me a message from them 18 months ago saying it was a bad appointment, then I’ll happily allow them to say it’s the owners fault, without challenge.

But I, like most others, were excited by Martins appointment. Unfortunately he hasn’t turned out to be the manager many thought he may be, system is flawed and way too naive. On the surface he seemed a perfect fit, but deeper than that and he’s the opposite of a classic Swansea manager.

Agree with all of that, I was genuinely excited by his appointment, however by the first Xmas, I had him sussed out. Seems a nice guy but stubborn and slow to learn.

The flaws in his system were obvious from game 1 vs Blackburn.

The problem lies in the fact that those flaws still exist in game 84, it turns out they weren’t things needing ironing out.. they were intentional features of the system.

I understand why he has had a lot of backing from some sections of the fan base and the ownership.

On paper he looks the perfect fit, young, possession, passing and ethos based.

But if your youth brings you stubbornness, your possession focus is flawed, your passing areas aren’t effective and your ethos misplaced - then it’s a useless combination.

Replace the word stubbornness with belief and you have a point. He doesn’t have the quality of players to deliver what he preaches. Pep does….RM doesn’t.

So…who’s at fault? The players, the manager or the owners?

Pep plays a completely different brand of football.

We had players like Alan Tate, Garry Monk, Mark Gower in the side we got promoted with. The great thing about a good system is that you can play well above the squads capabilities and they become greater than the sum of their parts.

This system is inherently flawed. He’s signed 22 players and spent millions since coming in and we are in the same spot as when he started.

If you can only “maybe” make your system work with world class players, then that says your system doesn’t work.

A good system should work at any level of football. Nobody can convince me slow narrow possession football (all by design), often in your own box - is a recipe for excellence.

I've said that all along, basically because we haven't got the quality in the playing squad to play that way, so its not an exclusive concept despite the self importance of some who think they "know" it all.

Martin would love to be a Pep or a Klopp but he hasn't got the nous to achieve that pedestal, or a squad that can play to that level, but I doubt he'd be capable of coaching a team who possess those abilities.

This is a possession heat map of the correct way to play possession football. Similar amount of touches and passes as us.

- the angles of attack are wide which is to stretch the opposition who counter possession by condensing the field.
- the red areas of highest possession are also angling wide, you can see the patterns of play without even watching the game on this map, they are doing their best to get it wide.
- furthest most frequent attacking position reaches their danger zone (18 yard box)
- clear gap between keeper and defence keeping danger away from own danger zone.

This is a heat map of us vs Birmingham:

- pretty much a shapeless square angling inside at the points of attack rather than wide
- no angling wide in the central high frequency possession areas
- no gap between keeper and defence with an unhealthy amount of possession in our own area
- furthest most frequent attacking position is far too distant from opposition danger zone

It’s chalk and cheese. Which is why this “personnel” complaint holds no water.

If Alan Tate can do it, everyone in this squad can.

"So…who’s at fault? The players, the manager or the owners?",

We are were we are, we can't afford to buy the quality needed and we can't afford a manager who can turn a pigs ear into a silk purse, Martinez and Rogers did, but Martin is a work in progress, who is stalling a tad at the minute, he's got to work that out.

To follow on from this:

As a huge fan of strategy and tactics in all walks of life (many are transferable to other sectors).

Here is the Impondo Zenkomo, military formation of attack.

The strategy the Zulu (impi) warriors took to defeat their opposition, who take a set central position.

The buffalo horns.

They used width and the flanks to get around their set defensive position while keeping a strong core.

Without the horns they would have been slaughtered, it’s the horns that make the system work.

At the moment we are an Impondo Zenkomo without the horns.

Ie - completely ineffective.
