If as seems likely Marshall signs what do people think of him ? Seems a sensible experienced championship option. But how match fit would he be?

Poll: Now it’s slightly clearer cut who do you want as manager ?

Can’t look as big a liability as Archer surely?!
If nothing else, Scotch keepers see plenty of the ball.

Cannot see anything on Archer's injury and how long he is estimated to be out for.

Obviously at least a month but has anyone else seen details of his injury?

Smells like a trout farm in here

Which begs another question: how much more of a liability would Barnes be?

I thought it was a quote from the film. I’m sure Archer is one of the inmates. Strange the things that stick in your mind, over 40 years on.

yes!
40 years - bloody hell.
saw it in Sheperds Bush Odeon - Friday night, with larger and lime in tiny little bar upstairs on the left.

We will know very soon if he is any good......he has not played a first team game all season, 37 years old.

I have concerns.......more than I have with Archer who I thought has done OK overall. Hopefully my worries will not come to fruition.

He's 36. A year matters at that age.

Decent signing. Reminds me of when we signed Paul Jones.

Welcome Marshall.

I'm hoping Archer's injury turns out to be a blessing in disguise. Don't be too harsh on Marshall if he makes an error in his first game or two though, we need this to work and therefore have to get behind him.

We should sign Sierra Leone's Mohamed Kamara. Absolute baller, and judging by his performance vs Algeria could fill in in defensive midfield if we needed him too

Agreed. Best wishes to Archer on his speedy recovery. Really feel for the bloke. Has to wait ages for his chance, probably been preparing for it for several months. Does a heroic dive to save a penalty to get us through to the next round and is now injured. I mean, terrible for us as its the very time we really need him but hardly his fault and the bloke must be sat in his hospital bed feeling really low. Am sure all true Rs fan wish him nothing but the very best.

I remember a young Marshall breaking through into what was then a very good Celtic side under Martin O'Neill. Celtic being his boyhood club.

Google / Wikipedia confirms my memory of European heroics, home and away against Barcelona apparently. I have not really tracked his career but I do remember one season with Cardiff (in the Prem?) when he seemed to save absolutely everything.

He won't be as good as Seny with the ball at his feet but I suspect he will be better at that than Archer.

I think he will be OK for the limited role we are asking him to perform. Welcome (back?) to the Hoops, David.

Yeah only the 2 penalty saves - the blokes a real danger!

not sure if we paid a fee for marshalls transfer but it had got me thinking if this was a cheaper option to buy albeit with a contract to the end of the season than pay derby a loan fee and cover his wages which i guess he might be on more than we would have offered?

I'll do some research. I'm a mile away from Leixlip and my mates son is in the cabinteely squad. That's not the link I'd intended. Anyway our u23s have signed an Irish keeper from derby.

Did I miss the "new signing" article on Marshall, or still work in progress? Always one of my favorite articles on this website.

Think it was Mitrovic's penalty that Marshall saved in Scotland's win v Serbia.

Pyschologically, that could work one way or another.

Sorry, could have been worded better. Not rubbishing Archer but he does look too casual with the ball at his feet and weak on crosses. Maybe, hopefully, Marshall will be an upgrade, he has a better cv, if he can still perform at or close to that level.

I think this is an excellent signing.

37 is not necessarily past it as a keeper. Experience and positioning counts for an awful lot and makes up for a slight loss in sharpness and agility, especially if you were a good keeper to start with.

At the very worst he's someone that Dieng and Walsh can learn off, and if he proves he still has it I wouldn't be surprised if we keep him here next season as no2, and send Walsh out on loan.

Archer just does not convince.

I've read that Marshall was a free transfer which, if true, is excellent news even with his wages to pay. Anyone else?

Very quick work by the club.

Seems like we must prepare for all eventualities in advance.

Very sad for Archer but impressed by the club clearly having plan b just in case.

We probably already looking at future Dykes, Dickie, Willock and Chair.

All the backroom staff must be greatly applauded.

Well done chaps. Good work.
