Fulham fans think Steve Cooper is on his way on 18:46 - Jun 25 by dobjack2 | Papers - this is from the evening standard a couple of days ago as an example: “Bournemouth are keen to confirm Scott Parker as their new manager by this weekend. Parker is set to leave Fulham and has been in talks with the club over the mutual termination of his contract before entering into negotiations with the Cherries. Jonathan Woodgate, who took over at Bournemouth following the sacking of Jason Tindall last season, is under contract until July 1, although the players will return for pre-season testing on Saturday and begin training on Monday. Parker is less than a year into a three-year deal – signed in September 2020 – but is expected to leave, following friction between him and the club's owner, Shahid Khan, and his son and director of football at Craven Cottage, Tony Khan.” It appears that one of the sources of friction is their transfer policy, I believe Tony Khan is in charge of that. I’m guessing that they are hoping that Cooper will be able to attract promising youngsters from big clubs to join Fulham on loan. This is what Parker had to say after they were relegated: "We're on a rollercoaster - relegation, promotion, relegation - now is not the time to talk about it, but we certainly need to make some big decisions, we need to understand what we need to do and where we need to improve, and transfers are definitely going to be an area we look at." |

Fulham fans think Steve Cooper is on his way on 18:23 - Jun 25 by Thornburyswan | Decent shout that - £2.5M now but a further £1.5M if promoted this season dropping to £1M & then £500K for following 2 years. |
I’d also think about linking it to promotion in general and not just promotion under Cooper’s management, that way if he gets the boot after 6 months and Fulham go up under someone else, the Swans will get paid.

Fulham fans think Steve Cooper is on his way on 13:58 - Jun 25 by jasper_T | Brandon Cooper got a minute or so after being recalled from Newport where he'd become an ever-present. Fantastic against Newcastle at the start of the season, penalty excepted. Injury limited his chances but he was cup tied for the FA Cup even if he had been fit. Wasted as emergency cover. Steven Benda missed the cup games with injuries as well, just got the one game when Woodman was ill. Ben Hamer signed to take his benchwarming seat. Cam Evans got to play one game in the FA Cup, since gone to Waterford where he had started every game until the last one. Jordon Garrick came off the bench a few times, a cup game out of position, then off to Swindon in January to get regular minutes. Tivonge Rushesha was in first team training, think he got on the bench in a cup game. Did his cruciate so long term absent. Dan Williams first team training most of the season, didn't get a look-in. Didn't get to play any football until he went back to the u23s bubble. Similar with Lewis Webb. Oli Cooper 5 sub appearances, scored in the Forest cup game. Less than 90 minutes all told. Don't think many expected Cullen to have the involvement he did in the playoff games, before those meaningless end of regular season ties he couldn't be thought of as having broken through (again, injury partly to blame. Fantastic against Forest in the cup). Generally we're talking about scraps of playing time and a concerning number of training injuries. Cabango broke through the previous season against all odds. Had Rodon, vdH and Wilmot in front of him and had just started to progress when Guehi was signed. Fortunately for him injuries and the abysmal performances of Guehi and Wilmot when paired together let him back in. |
Thanks Jasper, so I'm close to the truth then, very few of our youth have broken through or been given a decent chance. We have developed young players for other clubs though. I'm with Patches here. If people are happy to watch miserable, negative, boring football then maybe they should follow Cooper, not the Swans. I want to be entertained. I was lucky enough to grow up watching Curtis et al, proper attacking football with players who weren't scared to pass forward, or coached out of it. Being called passive by somebody who is happy to sit back and watch dross without a complaint is the ultimate irony.

So has Parker actually left. Playing right into Parkers negotiating hands if they are openly looking for a replacement when he is still employed and has not left.

Yep. When the fixtures came out on Thursday I booked a hotel for Bournemouth away in the hope Cooper is long gone by then. Playoff finishes in the last two years yet I’ve never felt so disconnected from the club, largely due to the fact I’ve the pants bored off me.

Parker to Bournemouth is "done" except for quibbling over payouts. It's why we can get awkward about compensation, we know they'll have the cash to pay the full value in Cooper's contract.
Fulham fans think Steve Cooper is on his way on 08:52 - Jun 26 with 880 views | Dr_Winston | The almost total disinterest Cooper has shown in developing the young players already at the club in favour of borrowing from others is quite damning when Jasper lays it out like that. You have to wonder how he'll do when the England u17 well inevitably dries up.

Would Brentford have been promoted without Ivan Toney? Would Norwich have been promoted without Buendia? Would Brendan have got us promoted without Scott Sinclair? You say that about anyone really. If we swapped Ayew for Dan James, Ollie McBurnie, Van der Hoorn and Leroy Fer (that were available prior to him arriving at the club) I would take that all day long.

Compared to the football we have played throughout most of our history, last season was champagne football. I started going when we were in the bottom division, hacking the ball through muddy pitches up to the likes of Steve Torpey and Julian Alsop. Some of the most enjoyable times following the Swans ever. I guess much of the discontent will be from those who joined us in our glory years and mistakenly think it's the norm? We have a very spoiled fanbase and its such a shame to see. [Post edited 26 Jun 2021 9:10]

I know. I said we got to the play off final, you asked would we have done that without our best player. I made the point that if you take the best player out of most teams they would struggle to achieve what they did.

The word promotion wasn't mentioned, you asked me would we have achieved play-offs without our best player. I replied saying most clubs wouldn't have achieved what they did without their best player. Barnsley probably wouldn't have achieved play-offs without Dike for example, their form turned dramatically after they signed him. In terms of promotion, our squad wasn't good enough with or without him, so its irrelevant.

I was watching Swans back in the Harry Griffiths days and the last 2 seasons has been turgid stuff and certainly not the Swans I watched back then, or most yrs since, we got results last two yrs and got to playoffs twice including final last season, so its difficult to criticise last two yrs achievements, but a big part of me would probably have enjoyed us more if we had finished top half playing good football, much like most of us. If Cooper does go, which looks certain I think there's a big rebuilding job to do and its starts with a decent manager and good recruitment. People can say and argue all day long, but Cooper will be a tough act to follow to get us up to the next step.

Like most clubs we have good years and bad years. In the best years we have a good squad and a manager who wants to play an exciting game with them. Sometimes the squad is limited and the manager is doing the best he can with what he has available. Sometimes both aren't up to scratch. Sometimes the football is rubbish because that's all the man in charge knows how to do, even if he's got players capable of more. In my time three managers easily come into that category. Monk, Clement and Cooper.

I believe if we played exciting football and finished 10th, Cooper would have more stick than he does now from the usual sources. Most people would prefer a successful club than a middle of the road one. We will see that in the years to come as I honestly don't think we will come near promotion. I bet anything that attendances will plummet (from pre covid) and apathy is going to reign over the club. Sometimes people just don't take to a manager and look to knock him regardless. There were people saying even if we got promoted they wanted him gone. Just crazy.

Its true I said would we have reached the play offs without Ayew, you mentioned the other clubs and their players and promotion. I made the point we had a key player and did not achieve promotion. I think the powers that be within the club will disappointed that we have not achieved promotion, after committing £4M on a single player for the season.

That's because they had stronger sides, with our key player we were only expected to challenge for a play-off place and no more. It's nonsense to suggest our season was not successful because we did not achieve what nobody epected us to. All the teams who were promoted were among the favourites, we were 9th favourites. Absolutely nobody expected promotion this season or last and they are lying if they say they did, be that management, players, owners or fans. What we achieved this season and last was excellent and something nobody else has managed in our history other than Brendan Rodgers. Sousa, Martinez and Potter all failed to do what Cooper did and all had better squads. Before the season started you said we had more chance of relegation than having a decent season btw, not sure if you remember that. Many said similar. [Post edited 26 Jun 2021 11:59]
