Fulham fans think Steve Cooper is on his way on 00:01 - Jun 25 by Dr_Parnassus | I said it months ago and I will say it again now. Bookmark it. People are going to long for the days of Cooper and his top 6 finishes showing progression year on year. He was/is such a perfect fit in terms of what this club needs due to its circumstances. Focus on youth, development and being able to have the trust of players of bigger clubs and the clubs themselves to send us theirs. It’s how we are able to compete. There is going to be one hell of a dose of reality when he does leave. Martinez couldn’t get us into the play offs, Sousa couldn’t get us into the play offs and Potter couldn’t get us into the playoffs. Cooper did it back to back. The only two managers that have achieved Championship playoffs for us is Brendan Rodgers and Steve Cooper, both on the same number of points. Brendan is without doubt a superior manager, which is probably why he was able to take that extra step (and his superior players of course). But managers like Brendan are a rarity, as was the quality and unity of his side back then. We are in a bit of a precarious situation now with not a great deal of money to spend and many holes to fill. We have a manager at the helm who has proven he can do that cheaply and effectively. Have a think of the realistic names that are going to be mentioned as the new boss... then think of the sort of players he would likely be bringing in. Doesn’t inspire me with great confidence. But as the old saying goes for some, ‘you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone’. I think a few will be finding that out real soon. |
Would Cooper have got us into the play offs this season without the highest paid player in the Championship?

No. £3.5m in wages per year wasn’t it? 2 full seasons. Probably right we won’t get top 6 for foreseeable, it’s all about the rebuild now, could Cooper do that without the best/highest paid player in league in his ranks? Very doubtful for me. We’ll see how he goes at Fulham.

The fact that (some)of the usual shouty suspects are still unable to proffer a better alternative to Cooper simply confirms how marginal they are as passive followers. Always bleating but never a constructive word. Not proper fans / jacks who actually have some real skin in our Club. .

If the right choice is made to replace Cooper then there's no reason at all why we can't still be up there next season. A more cohesive, attacking unit that plays to the strengths of all its parts has just as much chance of making top six as one that does little but maintain shape, defend like hell and hope the division's best paid player can come up with a goal or an assist.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

That's right Doc, if we only lose grimes and roberts and keep our defence plus get in a decent attacker and play as you say a more cohesive attacking game there no reason why we can't get into the play offs again.

It is ,Eddie, or should be our primary aim. We deserve to be at the top table. We earned the right to be there and our fall was unforgivable and totally preventable. We have seen massive profits disappear to be explained by those who have no access to what really goes on. The black hole must have been the size of Iceland. We are looking downwards looking at relegation chances when our mindset should be the polar opposite. We need inspiration,we need new blood and players especially a captain of some standing. We have heard nowt from Cooper at all,not even mealy mouth platitudes about the new season. We need to get shot now

Loving your positivity FB2 but noting we’ve already lost our GK, best CB & main goal scorer plus you are suggesting we can lose our player of the season & our captain and only need a decent attacker to repeat last season’s success I think that’s more than a tad optimistic.

It's why we need him sorting out right now so we can plan and have a proper meaningful pre season and hit the ground running. Basic stuff really.

It's not just Ayew. The Championship has been poor the last 2 seasons. Don't forget that the much vaunted youth development has mostly been loan players we have developed for other clubs, Woodman, Guehi, Gallacher, Brewster. Cooper can't take credit for other youngsters really, can he? Otherwise where is the youth among Bennett, Bidwell, Manning, Roberts, Fulton, Grimes, Lowe, Ayew, Naughton? The rest of our youth was left on the bench or ignored. Latibeaudiere looked very capable but hardly got a look in. Whittaker got 5/6 minutes at the end of games, Cullen got a few chances but he's the only one really. Jasper knows the youth better than me, tell us Jasper, how many of our youth players had their chance last season, how many have broken through? Put me right Jasper!

You keep saying this and I'm sure many may agree - it all about opinions Top 6 playing turgid football 90% of the time is not what got me watching the swans and its not what I want to watch now. I've always been a bit of a gambler and I'd much rather we rolled the dice While I appreciate his achievements, the last half of the season was painful to watch and not for me

Interesting last sentance so maybe Cooper went cautious when it appears we were in with a shout of automatic promotion, but no "recognised striker( maybe he meant goal scorer) added to the squad...in his attempt to get promoted Cooper reverted to Tournament football set up not to lose and "nick" a win.. So the first half was not so painful to watch?

Brandon Cooper got a minute or so after being recalled from Newport where he'd become an ever-present. Fantastic against Newcastle at the start of the season, penalty excepted. Injury limited his chances but he was cup tied for the FA Cup even if he had been fit. Wasted as emergency cover. Steven Benda missed the cup games with injuries as well, just got the one game when Woodman was ill. Ben Hamer signed to take his benchwarming seat. Cam Evans got to play one game in the FA Cup, since gone to Waterford where he had started every game until the last one. Jordon Garrick came off the bench a few times, a cup game out of position, then off to Swindon in January to get regular minutes. Tivonge Rushesha was in first team training, think he got on the bench in a cup game. Did his cruciate so long term absent. Dan Williams first team training most of the season, didn't get a look-in. Didn't get to play any football until he went back to the u23s bubble. Similar with Lewis Webb. Oli Cooper 5 sub appearances, scored in the Forest cup game. Less than 90 minutes all told. Don't think many expected Cullen to have the involvement he did in the playoff games, before those meaningless end of regular season ties he couldn't be thought of as having broken through (again, injury partly to blame. Fantastic against Forest in the cup). Generally we're talking about scraps of playing time and a concerning number of training injuries. Cabango broke through the previous season against all odds. Had Rodon, vdH and Wilmot in front of him and had just started to progress when Guehi was signed. Fortunately for him injuries and the abysmal performances of Guehi and Wilmot when paired together let him back in.
Fulham fans think Steve Cooper is on his way on 17:53 - Jun 25 with 768 views | fulhamfaninpeace | Hi all, just an update on the situation. Cooper has agreed terms with Fulham, 3 year deal as I said earlier. However, currently Fulham and Swansea are negotiating the pay off. Fulham don’t want to go to 3.5 and currently want to pay 2 million. There are negotiations ongoing, but both sides confident there will be a compromise, Cooper is very keen on the move. this might delay the finalisation by a few days

Both clubs need to sort it ASAP so they can prepare for the new season. I’d say compromise in the middle with a clause that would see Swansea get a bonus if Fulham are promoted back to the PL during the next 3 seasons.

If you get Cooper for under £3.5 million, you'll have an absolute bargain, I only hope we put a promotion clause in the deal. I'll be putting a good few £ on you winning promotion with Cooper at the helm.

Papers - this is from the evening standard a couple of days ago as an example: “Bournemouth are keen to confirm Scott Parker as their new manager by this weekend. Parker is set to leave Fulham and has been in talks with the club over the mutual termination of his contract before entering into negotiations with the Cherries. Jonathan Woodgate, who took over at Bournemouth following the sacking of Jason Tindall last season, is under contract until July 1, although the players will return for pre-season testing on Saturday and begin training on Monday. Parker is less than a year into a three-year deal – signed in September 2020 – but is expected to leave, following friction between him and the club's owner, Shahid Khan, and his son and director of football at Craven Cottage, Tony Khan.” It appears that one of the sources of friction is their transfer policy, I believe Tony Khan is in charge of that. I’m guessing that they are hoping that Cooper will be able to attract promising youngsters from big clubs to join Fulham on loan. This is what Parker had to say after they were relegated: "We're on a rollercoaster - relegation, promotion, relegation - now is not the time to talk about it, but we certainly need to make some big decisions, we need to understand what we need to do and where we need to improve, and transfers are definitely going to be an area we look at."
