Remain should have explained how EU works and positive case for it. People outside M25 have been worst hit by globalisation - think of Port Talbot recently and maybe one reason why Wales turned to Brexit. Also why were things like £375bn of QE spent on propping up city and not on establishing northern powerhouses.

Also seems to be a culmination of 3/4 decades of neglect with regards of economy outside London.

The bigger picture though is continued globalisation and automation (that next will probably eat away at well paid jobs in financial services and also professionals like accountants, lawyers and even doctors - they will have their Uber moment as well).

Whoever won this vote was going to have to address these issues and there really are no easy answers.

So you know those on this site who questioned the "convenient" timing of Jo Cox's murder and whether it was a conspiracy.

What say you now? Is your argument that the "leave" vote would've been higher or are you willing to accept your conspiracy was nonsense all along?

Of course the leave vote would be higher.

She's old news now - no longer required.

What a waste of a life

It's not even turkeys voting for Christmas. It's turkeys voting for Christmas round Bernard Matthews' house and shoving handfuls of Paxo up their own arseholes before they get there. And all for no more reason than they don't like ducks.

Swansea, talk about biting the hand that feeds you, a fantastic new University Campus built with EU funding and we kick them in the teeth, Swansea continually bleated about Cardiff having all the investment and then return two Labour MP's, you just can't make it up

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

Never underestimate the stupidity of the voting public. Cameron did and he's the first into the dole queue. The rest of us won't be far behind.

World still turning. Check.
Sun shining. Check.
Cameron nailed. Check.
Ftse 100 marginally higher then when referendum announced on Feb 20. No market meltdown. Check.
No emergency budget. Check.
Dog walked. Check.
Trip to the pub it is then.

Seen an MEP and brexit support (no idea who he was) on the referendum coverage this morning saying already that £350m won't go to the NHS and immigration won't change. As if there was ever any risk of that.

I dread to think how many future PhDs, post doc positions went up in a puff of smoke overnight.

It's going to have a major impact on the University sector in Wales. Swansea, Aber, Bangor are heavily reliant on EU funds both for research projects, but especially for infrastructure (new Bay Campus a prime example). Money from Govt and research councils is getting harder to come by, so I'm not sure how the gap will be filled. Possibly student fee increases; I believe the Tories are already paving the way for this. Something's going to have to give. I'd be very surprised if the Assembly can continue to subsidise the education of Welsh university students, but we'll see.

Well, sh*t just got interesting.

I ended up switching to remain precisely because of the anticipated illogical, party political responses that we have all seen this morning.

Corbyn coming out immediately with a demand for immediate Article 50 invocation is a prime example of putting party politicking ahead of what should actually happen. He doesn't believe that, he just wants to put pressure on the Tories. Cameron should be given due credit for saying that Art 50 will be deferred. This is absolutely the right thing.

Its going to be an interesting few months to say the least. I think we will have another referendum though.

I'm finding the thought of the running around that is happening at your place this morning quite funny despite it all :-)

Not sure what mechanism anyone will use for another referendum. Maybe possible if the EU make significant changes (the DAX is dropping faster than we are which may be interesting) but if they do, it'll surely be as a last resort to save the whole lot and on the back of a general election.

One of the other bigger picture issues is that only way the Eurozone can work is through greater political integration including integrated tax system across Eurozone members. Even UK Remain camp were not advocating this. So if Remain had won the EU was in between a rock and a hard place. Eurozone members needing to push on with political integration - non Eurozone members totally against this.

Easy. Delay article 50, come up with a new "re-negotiation" and then say it has to be put back to the British people. I'm still to be convinced that BoJo even wants Brexit.

You only have to look at the crisis meetings planned over the coming days between the various EU institutions. We even have a reconvention of the original gang of 6 from the ECSC on saturday! The EU will scramble, as they always do, to try and hold the project together.

And sorry Monny, but I did say on here a week ago. Lisa described it as a disturbance in the force :). My conclusion was that the EU was probably doomed in its current form. Either it went to supreme federal USofEurope or it fell apart in the next 20 years. But I didn't think a Brexit now was the right trigger.

I don't believe the prophets of doom but I also don't have faith in the Brexit camp to lead us through the negotiations ahead. As I say, sh*t just got interesting.

Democracy is great just as long as the vote goes your way, how you react if it doesn't tells how much you really believe in democracy.

God Jacko - you're even more cynical than I am :-)

Agree on Boris - he's never been a Brexiter (in fact he's more naturally pro Europe I think than Dave is, ironically) but I guess I sort of think if they go back on this they'll be screwed for ever more (unless as I said, on the back of significant change and a general election). Maybe they will, in which case I'm not sure there's much point in anyone ever voting for anything ever again !
The delay is completely correct and sensible I think. Let's see - I remain really worried about the effect on people's lives who are already suffering.
