Guido Carrillo Departs Monday, 5th Oct 2020 18:01 Striker Guido Carrillo has left Saints on a free transfer ending a 2 1/2 year stay at St Mary's although most of that time he has been on loan.
Saints have announced that Guido Carrillo has left the club with the following statement
Southampton Football Club can confirm striker Guido Carrillo has moved to Spanish side Elche on a free transfer, after an agreement was reached to terminate his contract at St Mary’s.
The 29-year-old forward moves to the La Liga team, who won promotion into the top-flight via the play-offs in 2019/20, marking their return to Spain’s elite division after a five-year absence.
Elche have made a solid start to the current campaign, winning one and drawing one of their opening three matches.
Carrillo, whose contract at Southampton had been due to expire next summer, made ten appearances for the club following his arrival from AS Monaco in 2018.
The club thanks Guido for his efforts during his time at Southampton and wishes him well for the future.

I mean I’m happy to see him go as hopefully that can fund another transfer tonight, I mean he’s certainly a player that will not been missed, hopefully no more signings will turn out as bad! Bit annoying that we couldn’t get anything for him, but at least we’ve lowered the wage bill!

Cant blame the player, but was crazy business. I also felt that he never got much of a chance. No wonder there was an exec clear out not to long after that one.

Guido played less than 10 games in a deal that..(Fee + Salary) ...cost the club the worst part of £30 million. Not his fault, but as a striker he didn't score, but in his defence got little or no service playing asa lone striker in a side that was playing badly.. Players value decreases as their contracts run down, so his sale value today is probably no more than £4 million (at best) and the salary we have saved by " freeing him" would cover our outlay in paying Theo (assuming that he returns) for the rest of the season.

He was shit, but Walcott is the same bad business. He was good 10 years ago.

Nick or anybody else, a genuine question. Please can you enlighten me in that there has been mention of S F C having to buy out his contract. If correct, does that mean that we have had to pay him a seasons wages simply to see him depart and play for another club?

Saint Mark. I think it means that Saints paid a proportion of the remaining wages that would have been paid had he stayed the full period left on his contract. Saints save a few months worth of wages and Carillo pockets a few quid which compensates him for the lower wages I expect the Spanish side are paying and he can sign for them immediately.

Amsterdamsaint, I was underwhelmed by the Walcott signing but I watched him work his @rse off on Saturday until the final minute. He looks exceptionally fit and he adds some attacking intent to the midfield. He's one recently signing who has clearly and immediately improved us. The complete opposite of Carillo, in fact.

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Rochdale Polls |
