Brendan Rodgers Linked With Ex Saints Striker After Two Goal Blast
Saturday, 1st Aug 2015 10:37

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is believed to be about to launch an audacious bid for ex Southampton striker Rickie Lambert only hours after selling him.

Brendan Rodgers is a confirmed lover of all things Southampton although he especially loves Saints players, therefore it should come as no surprise that the Liverpool manager should try to sign yet another player with St Mary's connections.

The player in question is Rickie Lambert who only joined West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed fee on Friday afternoon and then only 3 hours later scored a couple of goals as Albion turned over his old club Bristol Rovers 4-0.

This is allegedly prompting Brendan Rodgers to put in a bid for the striker when West Brom's offices reopen at 9am on Monday morning.

Rodgers infamous "Mud slinging" transfer policy is showing no signs of relenting as he aims to make Lambert his 84th signing of the summer.

" I am always in the market for a quality player who can hit a couple of goals in a game against a team of the quality of Bristol Rovers" the Liverpool manager might have said if anybody was interested.

His main problem though may be money and sources close to the Anfield club have hinted that he may be willing to offer a swap deal to the Baggies.

" Benteke has yet to score for Liverpool in the four days he has been at the club and Rodgers is worried that there will be a repeat of the Balotelli situation of last season" said the source during a break between fares.

"Rodgers knows that it nearly cost him his job last season and he is not going to let it happen again, he has given Benteke an ultimatum that unless he finds his scoring touch in Liverpool's friendly in Finland this weekend then he is out and Lambert could be brought in "

"I think Brendan will offer Benteke, Lovren and whatever small change is in his pocket in order to secure the services of a goalscorer, it makes sense to move Benteke on as he hasn't sold his house in the midlands yet"

So Rickie Lambert will have another difficult decision to make in the next day or so, should he leave a club where he has spent so many happy hours since yesterday to rejoin his boyhood idols where he will be guaranteed a place in the queue for a place on the bench, or should he stay put at the Hawthorns where he is a legend after shooting to the top of their all time goals per game ratio chart.
