Holloway Throws His Toys Out Of The Pram Sunday, 9th Jan 2011 10:01
Ian Holloway gave a rather strange post match interview.
Blackpool manager ian Holloway has said on more than one occasion this season that he doesnt care what other people think about him that he is focussed on keeping Blackpool in the Premiership, add that to the fact that he clearly wasnt interested in the FA Cup given the wholesale changes he made and its a little weird why he was so wired up in his post match comments.
What seems to have upset Ollie is the fact that the Saints fans chanted "Premiership your having a laugh" now out of all the chants that fly around football grounds this is probably one of the least offensive and gets an airing whenever a non Premier side meet a top flight big boy and even Blackpool for that matter.
If Holloway is going to get upset about that song in a game that he has clearly set his stall out in, that he is not bothered about then he is heading for a nervous breakdown.
Perhaps he harbours a grudge against Saints for sending his Leicester side down to League 1 a few seasons ago, obviously this led to his sacking and trying times for him and his family, but that is football and certainly no mention of it was made on Saturday.
In fact the offending chant wasnt aired that often that I remember, Saints supporters showed respect for Blackpool players, one small booing of Jason Euell on his first touch apart, indeed Brett Ormerod was given a standing ovation when he left the pitch.
I think that Hollaway is a little miffed at his reputation in the game, he is known as a hot head and a loose cannon, perhaps he feels that football in general doesnt give him the respect he feels he deserves for getting Blackpool to the top flight and i think he probably does have a point there, but to rant and rave as he did at Saints after the game will win him no friends and in fact will turn his club from being everyones favourite team in the premier to being hated, of course plaudits dont equal points and in turn Premiership survival, but on the other hand Holloway would be best to keep quiet get on with his job and let his team do the talking on the pitch, at the end of the season if Blackpool stay up he can take pride in a job well done, if they dont then I suspect that deep down he knows his best season is now in his past.

I have the greatest respect for Ian Holloway and the success he has had at Blackpool, but as a Saints supporter I think it was just a little disrespectful to Southampton FC and the FA cup competition to turn up at St Marys with a reserve and youth team. Ian you got what you deserved, so trott on!

I was in the Itchen and during the first half the Blackpool fans were chanting "Championship you're having a laugh ". It's a pity Holloway did not mention this in his post match interview.

I have enjoyed Blackpool and Holloway this season, but that interview was more than a little strange. I don't know what he expects.

Holloway's a prat. I know a lot of people say he's "a character," but he talks sh1t for fun. This is football, did he seriously us to role out the red carpet and take a bow to him and his team?! He made lots of changes, but so did we and with all said and done we were too good for them. I seem to remember him making some snide comments about us last time we beat one of his sides. Jog on Ian.

What a strange chap Ian Holloway is. I was sat just behind the coaching staff on Sat. We all heard the Blackpool fans singing 'You're just a small town in Bournemouth' and 'Championship you're having a laugh'. Like most fans of English football I have quite enjoyed listening to Holloway this season but was very surprised top hear him droning on about lack of respect on the highlights show especially as he had publically announced he wasn't even bringing his first team down to St Marys. Anyway, providing he is still in a job we will no doubt see a bit more of him next season when both teams are playing in the Championship.

Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Rochdale Polls |
