| Forum Thread | Vacant Positions at 11:36 24 Jun 2014
With Cousins heading off to pastures new this got me thinking about the vacant positions we currently have. I think the list is currently RB LB GK - reserve CB - reserve (as we've no idea if Josh Sick Note will be offered a deal) ST - reserve I can see where a couple of youth players could step up. But I'm not yet sure Tosin is the man to be first choice RB and of course we also need backup to the 1st choice LB! I also think Bonne could well be the man to be the back up striker to Jabo. As the budget has been cut, what do we think? Will JD throw the youngsters into the melting pot or is there enough cash in the coffers to make some senior signings? I know we're 'waiting on players' but this is a line I have head countless times of the seasons. The other thing concerns me is injuries, with all these positions needing injuries it doesn't leave much scope if we're hit like we were last year. DRS |

A friend of mine who has been very close with Lua Lua for a long time has told me he intends to come back to Colchester this summer. He has maintained for a long time that he wants to finish his career at colu and it seems as though that may be happening this summer. I'm not sure whether he's still got it, but if he has a fraction of what he did have I'd be very excited to see him back in a colu shirt! |

Have to say, its great to have these pieces back. Enjoy reading what happened to our former players. Shall we start a list of players that we would like to know where they ended up? I recently saw Perry Groves in Twisters absolutely smashed, he must still be looking for a bar to buy in town and will invite Steve Whitton along! |
| Forum Thread | Cowling, The Budget and Youth at 19:23 29 Apr 2014
I've just seen an article on the BBC about an interview RC gave to late kick off. Personally there were a few things in that interview that surprised. It came across that RC wouldn't have been to bothered if we'd have been relegated. He states it would be bad but nothing too much to worry about. Personally as a fan, I'm not sure I'm too happy with being relegated and watching my team play in a lower division. But what I find most surprising by this is how for years Cowling has been banging the drum that not enough people go and watch Colchester. I'm not sure playing in a lower division would do much to ease his moaning. I was also gobsmacked when I saw that the youth development budget is £1M! Wow, this to me seems like a serious sum of money. I think it is fantastic that such investment is being made, but is this too much of a gamble? The playing budget is being cut again for next season, so we're bound to be a struggling league 1 team next season. Will top young talent want to come and join us? The facilities and academy may be very good, but surely the first team has to show some ambition? The other thing that strikes me is that this does seem like a gamble. He hints how top talent can be pinched away for nothing based on our current status, which is a very valid point. But is this what Cowling is after? Is he trying to pump so much money in to the youth development budget that eventually we will grow a huge talent that can be sold for big bucks like a Southampton? This seems the case to me, but it also seems like a huge gamble. At the end of the day its not my money, but I'm not sure its one I would take. I'm not being negative about the fact we're developing youth, I think it is great. But I also think it is such a massive gamble. These players need to be good enough to play in our 1st team to ensure league 1 survival and the only way we'll know is by playing them. Some have done great and show enormous potential (Gilbey, Wright & Bonne) while there are others I'm not just sure on. In my eyes this is a big gamble and I just hope RC gets it right. |
| Forum Thread | January Transfer Dealings - Is It Enough? at 18:52 1 Feb 2013
So what are people's thoughts on JD's operations in the January transfer window? Personally, I am sad to see Hendo go. I thought he was a great player on his day, and a better option than Massey IMO. But you got the feeling there were trouble makers at the club, was he one of the one's that JD stated in the press as "they're just waiting for me to get the sack". No surprise that Hendo, JJOT and Rose who were all pally are no longer playing at the club... We all know about Jabo, who is solid enough but I liked the look of the young lad from Reading who played up top. I don't get why we get people in on loan and then only play them twice? Has JD scouted these players or watched self published videos of themselves on youtube? Deep down we all know Jabo is only here to play for a move in the summer anyway. I'm not sure it's enough to keep us up, but I'd love to be proved wrong. Another question. As the tide of the game changed on Saturday when we went 4-4-2 will JD go with this or revert to the normal 4-1-2-2-1 or what ever the hell formation we seem to play!! As away from home I'm betting it won't be 4-4-2, but am I the only one who wants to see us play 4-4-2? Am I just old fashioned? No, I just don't think we have the quality to play any other way. Here's to hoping to 3 points against pompey and I'm desperately disappointed I won't be there. Beer and radio will be at the ready! Up the U's DRS |
