Do you honestly think the co-op would provide valuable floor/stocking space for Dale merchandise?!? What turnover could they expect? What products would our items replace that could offer more profit annually for them? I'm
not sure we could offer them anything worth their while.
We seem to come up with over complicated ideas/schemes when essentially, as R17ALE points out, a common sense approach is all that is needed.
I read elsewhere about beach towels at £10. Using R17ALE's £2 for every £1 spent model that equates to roughly £6.66 profit per towel. Even if you shifted 200 in a year (quite generous I feel), that would be £1332 for the year. Whilst its a good idea and something you might expect the shop to stock it's hardly going to turn our fortunes around.
The single most worrying thing is attendances and all efforts should be focused on attracting fans. That is where I would be focussing all my attention, not on trying to get my merchandise in the co-op stores.
All in my opinion of course.

I did mention the idea of an instore catalogue,would'nt need to stock items but make them available for local pick up.You mention about trying to get crowds in,what better way than reaching out to everyone in the borough through means of a service most people are likely to use.I personally think the idea would be a certain plus point for that sort of approach especially when people see it everyday and have the chance to get it at pay weekly.You would have folk paying in over summer for the new season and then up to xmas for presents.You have to give folk what they want,not what you want. | | | |

My sentiment excactly.Years ago i said the only sponsor of the club should have been the co-op and they have both missed out massively.There has been no market strategy ever at the club,even during our promotion season.A few posters on the site and crappy chit chat on here.The quicker the club and some folk realise that Rochdale is a borough and not just an area within spitting distance of spotland the better.Worst thing to happen was Dale not moving to the athletics ground years ago. | | | |

Fully agree that the main focus has to be getting more people in, and retaining those who already come.
But additional revenues from things like the shop, programme sales, golden gamble etc. can collectively contribute a significant sum, and make up the shortfall at the turnstiles.
As an example, the club would not have survived the 1990's without Goldbond - it's as simple as that.
Rather than have all manner of folk and their dog coming up with all manner of suggestions, we should do what all businesses do when faced with a problem - ask someone who knows the answers!
Now I doubt Mary Portas would do a programme on us, but we have, amongst our fanbase, a fan who has run the town's premier gift/souvenir shop for more years than he'd care to remember!
If it were my call, I'd be ringing the couple who run Sandifords Gallery on Drake Street, as what he doesn't know about retail in this particular field isn't worth knowing! His advice could be invaluable!
And, if you're passing ever pop in - it's a treasure of a shop, the type of which we should be proud that still exists in this town - no mean feat given the decline of our town and Drake Street in particular! [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

I've always thought the idea of paying for your season ticket monthly would be a great initiative by the club. Many people cant afford the whole sum at once, this could encourage more to sign up for a season ticket, I know I would. |  |

Not living in Rochdale anymore,i can only go off hearsay but are there not posters around the town re matches.I know there was none when i lived there and it was annoying because when you went elswhere,other clubs posters was seen all over.The only ones i can remember seeing are the ones on the board on sandy lane,so theonly people who saw them was the people who actually attended matches. | | | |
