Assuming he passes a medical and is fit, he's an upgrade on Clint Hill but very much in the same mould.
Never had injury problems until last season, so assuming it was one injury issue which has now cleared up, great signing!

Much like Andy Johnson, it rather depends on who he's replacing. If he's coming in instead of Hall and Gabbidon it's good, anybody else maybe not so much. One thing I found myself writing time and again in the defence end of season report - for Ferdinand, Onuoha, Traore and others - was that apart from Hill we really lack leadership and organisation in defence. |  | | |

I suspect Diakite would get almost universal approval, but I do agree with your general point. Few too many Champ Manager veterans I think - Hristo Stoichkov doesn't come to QPR in real life lads. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

But do we need to sign much more than that really though?
I'd like to see another centre midfielder for sure (Faurlin injured, Barton banned, Diakite if signed will often be banned!).
Having already spent a ton of cash in January i wouldn't blame the club for reigning in spending a bit and i think the players listed will improve the team and squad without breaking the bank. | | | |

Diakite would attract universal approval because he is good and YOUNG.
With the exception of him, is Hughes trying to assemble a Dad's Army? We had a very old squad last season and Johnson, Nelson, Green are only going to add to the avergae age...

we're spending a fortune on wages again by the look of it. I know Nelson is experienced but he's also old and slow. He would have been great for us a few years back but I'm not so sure now even as a squad player. He looked finished at Spurs last season.

Lets give hughes a bit of credit, he won't sign him if he's injured or if his wage demands are excessive.
Also having worked with him before he knows his character and what he can offer on the pitch. Better than hall and gabbidon and likely cheaper than their combined wages. | | | |

Depends what you class as 'competitive'. For me personally, 17th will a be perfectly fine result, so long as we are safe before the last day of the season. | | | |
