Ryan Nelson 16:58 - Jun 14 with 6735 views | BerkoRanger | about to have a medical at QPR, according to the SSN tickertape. A good solid squad player that will help give us strength in depth and at a really good price! [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Totally agree. We need to trust Hughes
Ryan Nelson on 20:28 - Jun 14 with 1333 views | Jamie | What is encouraging is that Hughes is getting his business done early. We bid £3.5m for Foster, got turned down and rather than spend all summer bartering, we turned to Green and got the deal done. Hopefully we will now have the complete opposite of last summer.
Ryan Nelson on 20:35 - Jun 14 with 1322 views | Kiwi76 | A Kiwi at QPR - will await the streets of NZ becoming awash with hooped shirts Nelson is getting slower but reads the game well and if had younger legs next to him could do a job when needed ie/ alongside Onuha not Hill! Good man to have in the squad and the injury issues were compounded with the nonsense going on at Bburn where extra appearances were going to trigger contract extensions / loyalty bonuses etc.
Ryan Nelson on 22:08 - Jun 14 with 1243 views | derbyhoop | We're short of cover at centre back. Nelson isn't the player he was 2 years ago but, if fit, its a step up from Hall, Gabbidon and Perone.

Ryan Nelson on 22:49 - Jun 14 with 1188 views | LuglessDouglas | Ahem! Excuse me for interfering. But aren't we just getting a little ahead of ourselves here? We just avoided relegation last season. We're not (yet) a big hitter in the Prem. Surely we need to approach the new campaign carefully. FFS, we're not going to attract huge footballing stars into our modest set up quite yet. As far as I can see, Mark Hughes is taking an extremely pragmatic approach to prospective in-comers and that will serve us well. Steady buidling is what we need - not attracting high-profile players who may prove to be a mistake, or worse, a liability. Joey Barton anyone?
Ryan Nelson on 23:24 - Jun 14 with 1155 views | SomersetHoops | I thought the objectives in the MH transfer philosophy is to improve the team and bring in players he can add value to. This should mean well scouted good value young players of quality unrated or not picked up by other clubs. I hope there will be some that fit that description in addition to, or instead of some of the knackered old codgers we seem to be linked with recently.

Ryan Nelson on 23:27 - Jun 14 with 1151 views | Mattnme | Players like Nelson and Johnson are being brought in to bolster the squad. Last year one of the big problems was we had a decentish 11/12 but no real cover. Nelson is better than fitz and gabby, likewise Johnson (who may play above Mackie) is better than DJ and betty. I think we will buy in players but it's easier and better to get the out of contract players now. The good ones will soon get snapped up. Where as any players bought for cash always take longer. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Ryan Nelson on 23:35 - Jun 14 with 1143 views | eghamranger | Will him and Johnson play for the vets or the actual 1st 11?
Ryan Nelson on 23:41 - Jun 14 with 1142 views | Kiwi76 | + these are players he has history with with and trusts to do a role - just like NW did couple of seasons ago. Not types to get anyone overly excited but have already had a few exit and as someone else mentioned need to have a better 15 let alone 25.
Ryan Nelson on 00:08 - Jun 15 with 1128 views | daveB | didn't we do the same thing last year sign players with "Premiership experience" who could do a job for us and now we're trying to sell most of them. I'll be disapointed if we sign Nelson, i think we should be looking at younger players to fill the squad as back up.

But younger players cost money, Man Utd just paid £6m for an 18 year old who has never played above League One. We've released a fair number of players from our 25, and i'd expect more to follow (Connelly, DJ Campbell, Hulse hopefully etc). Nelson, Fabio, AJ etc can fill those squad places with more quality without spending anything. I hope we will pick up a couple of Diakite style young players from abroad (Diakite himself would be a good start...) but if we can improve the squad without going into further debt i'll accept that.
Ryan Nelson on 09:51 - Jun 15 with 1013 views | Jamie | I can well believe that after the spend-a-holic last season, the budget is considerably tighter this summer. With the expense of the new academy & new training ground and the club being run as a business rather than a play-thing, compromises have to be made somewhere. At the risk of being bemoaned, I wouldnt personally be surprised if the signing of Diakite and possibly 1 other are financed by the sale of Taarabt.
Ryan Nelson on 10:13 - Jun 15 with 977 views | daveB | is that what we want though, decent cheap options who we need to replace within six months. It just seems a very strange signing to me, similar to Kieron Dyer last summer.
Ryan Nelson on 10:42 - Jun 15 with 956 views | WestbourneR | I don't expect us to go huge but I think they're be 10 mill to spend. That doesn't go far so getting people like Johnson, Nelson and Green for the squad is good business. They're all the right type of character too.

Ryan Nelson on 17:35 - Jun 14 by davman | Diakite would attract universal approval because he is good and YOUNG. With the exception of him, is Hughes trying to assemble a Dad's Army? We had a very old squad last season and Johnson, Nelson, Green are only going to add to the avergae age... Where's the YOUNG talent???? |
...sitting on the bench wishing he'd get his place back off Onuoha (coat..)

IMO, it will be the names listed before: Green, Fabio, Nelsen, Diakite, Johnson & possibly 1 young gamble. With signing on fees and wages, that lot would be £10m easy IMO. As said earlier, I wouldn't be surprised if Taarabt was sold this summer to add to the kitty.

This summer's task is to build a squad with strength in depth. GK: Green, Cerny, Murphy DF: Fabio, Traore, Young, Onouha, Ferdinand, Nelsen, Hill, Connolly MF: Mackie, SWP, Derry, Diakite, Faurlin, Buzsaky, Barton (pending disciplinary & psychiatric evaluation) FW: Cisse, Zamora, Johnson, Helguson IMO, at least, thats not a bad little squad and one that should be strong enough to stay up. Plenty of space left in the 25 man squad as well. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Ryan Nelson on 11:48 - Jun 15 with 858 views | WestbourneR | I would amazed if a couple of wingers don't come in for decent fees and a CM or two as well. And if I was MH I'd try and shift Anton. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Ryan Nelson on 12:51 - Jun 15 with 789 views | corse | ok i know the transfer window have not opened yet and everything might happen but nelson, johnson, green? are they serious? f f s! all past their best before dates. especially johnson. dont want him anywhere near loftus road. no news we have actually signed diakite and i think taiwo is going to france . our midfield is crap and barton probably out. faurlin on his way back which is a good thing but what do we have. buz??derry???swp??? if thats the deal it wont amuse me a moment. and if we have to rely on those three signings mentioned and not looking to add some real quality into defence and midfield i think we might look at the postions 17-20 again. Ryan Nelson on 12:57 - Jun 15 with 777 views | WestbourneR | corse I think if you can see that a midfield of Derry & Buzz with suspended Barton and recovering Faurlin won't cut it then the experienced and successful football manager Mark Hughes probably can too. It's early JUNE and you're freaking out that this is going to be our squad. Don't be so bloody simple and calm down.

Ryan Nelson on 13:11 - Jun 15 with 747 views | YorkRanger | I've no issue with Nelson and Johnson. People need to keep perspective here. They played less than 20 games between them last year, are both ageing and have carried injuries so they are not being purchased IMHO to be first team starters. However they have proven premiership experience and much like Cerny would be valuable members of a squad and be called upon to cover without looking out of their depth. We can all remember the reaction when we signed Hill and Derry a couple of years back....
