your most underated qpr player of all time???? on 09:27 - Mar 7 by ShotKneesHoop | Absolutely, but not by me. Mick Leach always gave everything, was two footed, could head and tackle - just a shame he didn't have the pace of others, but he could read a game. I watched Mick progress from the juniors in 1965 and he was ahead of the Morgan twins, Sibley, Hazell and the rest. My joint all time player, along with Mark "Bunch of fives" Lazarus, for very different reasons. I really hope we name a stand after him when we move to a new ground, but probably he will get a tea bar instead |
I think it was the last game of one of the early 70s seasons when Mick Leach was carried round the pitch on the team's shoulders at the end of the game with the crowd chanting his name. It may have been a bit of irony but he looked delighted. One of his most memorable performances was he game against Liverpool when Gerry Francis scored 'the goal of the season' - our Mickey scored the first with a very stylish header as I recall.

your most underated qpr player of all time???? on 10:50 - Mar 7 with 1438 views | W7Ranger | I'd have to go with Mavis and Olly. Mavis was actually a decent player and contributed a fair few goals in his time and for someone not blesses with height, scored a few decent goals with his head. I admit I wasn't a particularly big fan of his at the time, probably because he was overshadowed by other "flair" players in the team. But looking back at old season reviews from the early 90's, it was clear that his contribution to the team with his general all round play and his goals tally was important to the Team. Olly was a grafter, worked his arse off and was like a little terrier in the middle of the park. His tireless work and harrassment of opponents was probably the reason why Wilkins played so well for us. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

We played Slovan second round of the Uefa Cup year after. We also played a testimonial against Moscow Dynamo around that time, I seem to remember it was a McClintock testimonial
