Match Thread: Rochdale vs Southend on 14:16 - Sep 29 with 7473 views | jonahwhereru | A wedding means I can’t make it up there tomorrow for my favourite match up. I may live in Southend but don’t take any interest in team news. But the local paper yesterday was saying their bench may be four players tomorrow. Kevin Maher has cited a shoot on sight policy. Which will be an interesting comparison to ourselves. I expect them to bring plenty, as they are due back in court on the 4th, so this could well be their last away trip unless the judge does not stick to his promise from their last adjournment. Or a deal is done. But that is coming down to the wire. A season ticket holder told me that because their bench is weak they visibly tire in plenty of game. Which bodes well for us. Over the years I have had so many let downs when Dale play Southend that I won’t make a prediction and Southend themselves are inconsistent However I am always hopeful that we will do these. Although better to do it after the 2nd goal for us. These are wide open and we are passing them to death. It will be a travesty if we dont get at least 2 more this half.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Southend on 17:14 - Sep 30 with 6424 views | DaleFan7 | Similar problems reared their ugly heads today. Poor home record, can't defend crosses, 9 games without a clean sheet, had 1 shot in the second half straight down the keepers throat, score and concede within minutes. No excuses for being 2-0 up at home and not winning. The main positive is we've moved into the playoff places with a point. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Oldham will fancy their chances massively if they've watched any of our recent home games, bang a fair few crosses in the box and away you go

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Southend on 17:46 - Sep 30 with 6173 views | dingdangblue | Didnt create anything 2nd half. Looked like we ran out of ideas - players looked tired too. Starting virtually the same X1 Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday is paying its price.

yes..it is inevitable..small squad..wait until the heavy pitches come then it will be very challenging fitness wise with very few options to rotate

It's okay doing it once. Rest of the game, nothing. How he got MOTM, I don't know.

I thought he did ok. Jez and Oduroh linked up well, particularly in the first half. Although I'd have given motm to any one of Gilmour, Clayton or East.

But Sarfend have a smaller squad and only 2 subs on bench today.....hoped they would run out of steam (as suggested earlier in this post) and we would come good, but not the case. we were the team that wilted. If Southend do go south after the judgement later this week, will all results effecting them be expunged? So we kop a point less?

Southend, with only 14 players listed for today, having a similar fixture timetable and today possibly being their last away game ever and looming redundancy, looked far more lively, committed and creative second half than our shower. Score and concede immediately - a mistake often repeated. Conceding to easy headers - a mistake often repeated. Playing poorly at home - a mistake often repeated. Frustrating, ineffective and unentertaining sideways / backwards play - a mistake often repeated. Spending valuable time messing about with the ball when attacking instead of attempting a shot - a second half wasted. Sort the above out Jim and we'll be fine.

If the worst happens, all their results will be expunged and all points gained by teams having played against them, will be deducted. We will also end the season a week before anyone else.

If their centre forward is out of work, I would give him a job here in a heartbeat. He is everything Mitchell isn't, a big presence, jumps early and wins the ball, decent acceleration and good movement. Handy in defence too, winning a couple of good headers. Someone needs to sit Mitchell down and make him watch a proper centre forward at work for a few hours.
Match Thread: Rochdale vs Southend on 19:49 - Sep 30 with 5469 views | EllDale | I can’t weigh this league up. One point gained from two home games and still in a playoff place! That first goal of Southend’s was a real killer. Like all the other soft goals conceded from balls into the box recently it seemed to go in in slow motion. Mitchell was getting some stick from certain people in the Sandy towards the end but I’m not sure that this was totally justified. He is actually scoring goals. What I will say though, and this was viewed from 100 yards away, that perhaps he should have scored in first half stoppage time but shot straight at the keeper? It also goes to show that if Sinclair has an off day, or is marked/kicked out of the game, that we are a lot less potent upfront. One shot in the second half tells it’s own story. Jez and Odoruh looked sharp in the first half and but never sparked after the break before the former was moved to the left hand side. Did Southend alter anything at halftime? Someone has already remarked that it may be time for Ferguson to be given a run instead of Nevett but Taylor is also perhaps worth a chance. Nevett is a really composed footballer but is he really convincing aerially? [Post edited 30 Sep 2023 19:50]

It looks like a very open division, pretty much anyone can beat anyone. People were uologising about Cheaterfield, but we make it easy to defend against. They scored, sat back, we scored, they attacked scored and pretty much nullified us for the second half. Opposition teams know we are poor at defending crosses and particularly after we score. We’ve been too nice for years now, no game management, no pragmatism. We’re doing ok, but we’ve enough league experience around to work out how to defend crosses and manage a game when we are in the lead, sort that out and we may find ourselves in the play offs at the end of the season.
