Blackburn Rovers v Swansea City : Matchday Thread 2022/23 UPDATED on 21:38 - Feb 18 by QJumpingJack | Maybe Martin needed an experienced old head next to him - which was discussed last Summer. Calderwood was linked but the deal never happened. One would imagine that a defeat to Stoke on Tuesday means a change is likely. O'Leary in temp charge for Rotherham? |
Can you honestly see someone with the misplaced confidence in his own ability that Martin has taking advice off an old sage. I can’t. Defeat against Stoke should spell the end for him. But it won’t. It should have happened way back.

That good run where we won 6 games more or less on the bounce have saved him thus far. But 3W 6D 7L since 23GF 25GA. Have seen better form than that get managers the sack.

O'Leary , I'd like to think he has input but I've certainly not seen anything whilst on the bench. Could we right now do any worse [Post edited 18 Feb 2023 22:47]

Imagine if Steve Cooper stayed after the play off final. Went to the press and said “I’m going to try a different style”. And this last 18 months is what he served up… can you imagine the outrage!! The loudest supporters of Martins methods would be the loudest critics of exactly the same approach overnight. There would be no “give him time”, no “it’s the owners fault”, no “must be the players”… he would be run out of town. Russell Martin came along at a time when his face fitted. After the way Cooper was treated there needed to be a release of “see I said it would be better under someone else”, but it never came. Quite the opposite. This is why time has been extended to the freezing over of hell, and everyone under the sun has been blamed except the obvious for so long. There is no excuse for this level of underperformance.

Not sure why you constantly have to bring Cooper into discussions. He had his own issues which is why he is not universally liked by Swans fans. As for Martin, as it states elsewhere likelihood is he will be offered a contract with caveats. Whether he accepts it is another matter

Well I sincerely hope he doesn't, we are going backwards at a rate of knots. His style of play just doesn't work, there's just no tempo, and it's just plain boring to watch

I'd watch Martin's teams 100 times out of 100 over Cooper's no matter that the results are poor. Cooper's t teams, like Monk's, were RRRs numbingly boring. That said, I also think Martin needs replacing.

It makes you wonder why the owners didn't give Eustace what he wanted in Summer 2021. (when he was assistant at QPR). Missing out on him and going for Martin may prove more costly.....

Eustace has a 30% win record at Brum. Martin has a 34% win record at Swansea.
| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Watching coopers sides were equally as annoying, we had a team who imo should have finished in the top 2 until his arse fell out and he went all negative.

I don’t, that’s usually your thing. Although the way they are playing that has decreased, especially after their result yesterday. There will be absolutely nothing drawn up or discussed this side of the season ending. Russ has no idea where he stands and as he says himself, discussions have stopped after it was discussed early in the season. I can’t imagine he will be offered anything. If he is then he snatched their hand off and won’t believe his luck. But I don’t see a scenario he’s offered anything at all.

Why “should” we have finished top 2? If we kept up the ridiculous form from the first half of the season all the way to the end of the 46 games, we would have still finished 4th. These myths are just tiresome. What happened to people debating honestly? There always has to be myths and mistruths added in to make up for the lack of rationale.

Actually our form was pretty even for the first 36 games. We did fall away in the last 10, but we were not quite consistent enough for a top two finish. I know you love stats so : Q1 - 22 points from 36 Q2 - 24 points from 36 Q3 - 23 points from 36 Q4 - 11 points from 30 (obviously only 10 games) You could probably divide it up slightly differently, but it would still show a fall away in the run in

So as I said, if we kept up the form all the way though (unlikely) then we would have still come 4th.

Our form from 9th March to 5th April definitely let us down. 9 March 202134 Blackburn Rovers 1—1 Swansea City 13 March 202135 Luton Town 0—1 Swansea City 16 March 202136 Bournemouth 3—0 Swansea City 20 March 202137 Swansea City 0—1 Cardiff City 2 April 202138 Birmingham City 1—0 Swansea City 5 April 202139 Swansea City 0—1 Preston North End Just 4 points from 18 was a massive loss

Let us down for what? Again, if we kept up the form of the first half of the season all the way to the end - we still would have come 4th, still would have faced 3rd place Brentford.

But in Cooper`s case it was quite successful in taking us to two play offs and Wembley as well as bringing in some tidy players on loan etc and now has gone on to get Forest promoted and currently holding there own in the Prem, no doubt on achievements alone Cooper as a manager is levels above Martin.

He did alright, but I'd still not want to watch the same game over and over again under him. He would've probably been long gone if it wasn't for the non crowds during covid. But back to the current, Martin has to go.
